Ok, I set up a Private league, strictly for us Gay Men, to battle,
compete and test our Football skills! Here's the info:
1. Its Free..http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/
2. League ID# is 3086
3. Type in Password=pride (all lower case)
There is a live draft (via chat) set for Friday, August first @ 10:50
pm EST. If you can't make the draft, its no problem, as yahoo will
select the team for you!
I thought it would be a great way for some of us Sports Fans to get
to know each other better!
Only 16 can enter the league, will make more if the demand warrants
it!

Ok, I'm signed up. Now can someone tell this Fantasy football virgin

how the heck does it work?? It doesn't look like it works the same way as Yahoo fantasy baseball or hockey.

Its pretty easy. You pick players at the LIVE draft via a live chat room yahoo has set up. If you can't make the live draft, Yahoo will select them for you, based on whose the BEST player available at the time of your selection.
You assemble the best team you can, make trades, pick up Free Agents, etc for the entire football season.
You receive points based on certain performance excellence, and negative points for players "faux pas"
This is the scoring system that will be used.League ID#: 3086

Anyways brother Meatman, (and any others that won't be able to attend the draft) make sure you put injured guys on the Do Not Draft list, by hitting "Edit Pre-Rankings" this will help to insure you get a competive team.
Thanks for joining...SIX MORE TEAMS LEFT TO GO!

Hey guys--entered as Lightning Pride. First time in fantasy league though I love football and have been in a easy pick-em pool with spreads for many years. Figured good place to get my feet wet and learn the ropes. Thanks for setting it up. Also, may not be able to be there live on 8/1 (up in the air) but did some pre-picking faves just in case hoping to get some of my boys. John

Welcome Lighting Pride!
Making the live draft is not imperative to having a good team. However, the draft is alot of fun, and it is thrilling. It's amazing how many times that player you are ready to draft, gets taken right in front of you!
The secrets to winning Fantasy Leagues is the ability to a)Stay Healthy b)Picking up quality Free Agents in the early weeks of the season. Every year players come out of nowhere to become Pro-Bowlers. Every year players that were "studs" the year before, turn into duds.
Last year in one of my leagues, I started 0-4, but was able to pick up Dante Stallworth,Jeremy Shockey and Jerry Porter from FA pile. I went 10-2 the rest of year, made the playoffs then lost in the finals thanks to Drew Bledsoes 5 interceptions(last year a 10 round pick)in the final week of the season.
Anybody who reads the boxscores on Mondays and/or watches SportsCenter/Football tonight, etc will make a good fantasy team owner.
ONLY 4 TEAMS LEFT IN THIS LEAGUE
Welcome and gl2u

Welcome Bucs and Daggers..Brings us up to 14 teams, TWO SPOTS LEFT for this league.
Seems strange to have a fantasy league without ANY Philly representation.
So that explains why the Philly boys are hiding DallasUNC...they knew you were a Giants boy, and figured in advance they would have no chance of winning. After all, don't the Giants usually handle the Eagles with ease?

No, you're one that would throw batteries at the players or cheer while a player lays motionless on the field.
Booing Santa was one or the more classy things classless Philly fans have done.
Will the new stadium have a jail in it also? Or have the Philly thugs been priced out of the new stadium? I'm thinking there will be a better class of "fan" (if possible in Philly) in the new stadium.
PhillyFan
Jul 23 2003, 01:59 PM
Gee, i thought it was chicago and cleveland who had the corner on the market for throwing things on the field?
Actually, instead of the Jail they are putting in a hospital and inviting all the buc fans up for the game...
If you are talking about Irvin, i don't say it's right or wrong, however, word is some cowgirl was the actual one being boo'd not irvin. I did not lose any sleep knowing that scum ball was out of football... in the end, was anyone sorry to see him go?

THE FIRST FANTASY LEAGUE IS FULL
Another league will be formed shortly, with a late August draft date. I received a couple of emails from people wanting in. I could expand this league, however with the settings selected, it would create an unequal balance of power in the distribution of talent. Thats why I maxed the league at 16 teams.
I've participated in over 100 fantasy leagues, so I have a pretty good feel for what makes for a fair and good league.
Thanks to all that joined, and those wanting to participate, have just a tad of patience, we'll have you accomodated shortly.

I don't doubt that for a minute.
With only the top four out of 16 teams making the championship bracket, it's sure to be a playground for the elite... and let's not forget a quality team or two in the consolation bracket.
I guess the teams that will be gunning for the FFL championship trophy in the postseason will have really earned it.

The reason the playoffs are not expanded to 8 teams, is then week 17 of the season comes into play. Many star players have an "off" week, or very limited action, resting for the playoffs.
No doubt some very good teams won't make the playoffs. At least tho a team owner doesn't lose the championship, because of 4 of his players didn't play, in preparation for the real NFL playoffs.
Hope that answers your question

I respect your opinion on that, but having your stud players get limited playing time to rest for the real playoffs almost forces you to do a better job of "coaching" in that last week.
Anyway, it means you really have to earn a playoff spot.

Jeff--sorry to hear you might miss the the draft, however, you'll still draft a competive team. Yahoo disperses the talent pretty evenly, and you will still end up with star players.
If you, or others miss the draft, just check your team in the morning. Start raiding the Free Agents, to strengthen your bench.

When I did my fantasy football team last year, I did something I normally DON'T. I let Yahoo! pick my team. I actually was very happy with what I ended up getting. Ultimately, I got to the championship game so I can't complain too much.
For this year, though I went through and put my own rankings on it, so that should be a decent basis IF I can't make the draft.
