Full Version: Brock Lesnar- the newest gay hater

Yes this is going in the NFL section now. Former WWE and NCAA wrestling champion Brock Lesnar, who is currently trying out for the NFL, is the latest in gay haters. And he made it blatently clear he doesnt like us - with no apologies.

Brock Lesnar ESPN article

Sadly this is supposed to be an article about how Brock is trying out for football after being off the field since high school. Yet the 1st quote is "To print what Brock Lesnar said might make even John Rocker blush. But after his curse-laden outburst, he turned to a nearby reporter and explained, "I don't like gays. Write that down in your little notebook. I don't like gays." in response to a female fan telling Brock her friend Shawn thought he was cute.

However, Im not entirely sure what to think. Brock has been the WWE's bread and butter the last couple years and he still has the mentality of being bigger than life to draw attention to yourself and to play the heel (bad guy).

So the question is, did he say it to grad the reporter's attention over a guy who may or may not make an NFL camp? Or did he say it because he genuinely hates gay people and found the idea of Shawn liking him repulsive?

Guess we will never know but nonetheless its just one other reason why people wonder why I ever watch pro wrestling or sports for that matter.

I read just read this too and immediately came here. Actually finally got me motivated enough to register so I could post. In all honesty, I think it's pretty clear in this case it's a little from column A and a little from column B. One the one hand, he's totally attention grabbing. On the other hand, given his background, I have a feeling he's pretty much the dumb redneck he claims he is so proud to be. The dude's got obvious issues and has been obviously trying to overcompensate for something his whole life by working out (and over doing it) since he was a child. And no, I'm not saying he's um, deficient in certain areas, but that he seems to have some real emotional or pyschological issues. Course the proof will be in the pudding if he even gets looked at seriously be a team. I guess the whole thing that gets me with him and eveyone else is how it's still just fine and dandy for such derogatory blanket comments to be made by him and so many others. If it's about gays it's just "the right to their opinion" but if it's about other minorities it's not tolerated. Course I guess the good thing with him is we won't have to even try and swallow some lame ass non-apology statement.

What an idiot. I hope he makes the team, and has to room with a closeted teammate on road trips.

(btw, is the forum straight friendly? i'm hetero and just want to make sure)

At least Brock is honest.

Break a leg, Brock. In at least three places.

Just to be clear: just because you're a WWE stud doesn't make you an athlete. More likely, he's a steroid poppin', sub-100 IQ, media whore.

WWE is all about being loud, playing a part, posing as an athlete.

Seems as thought he has brought his show to the NFL.

Thumbs down, way down.

To me, whether he said it because he truly hates gays or because he wanted to be provocative and grab the reporter's attention is totally irrelevant. Venom is venom, no matter why it's spouted. Wonder what the reaction will be among WWE and NFL fans and honchos (Lesnar's once and--he hopes--future employers.)

From the article:
"Offended? Too bad. He doesn't care what you think. What your mom thinks. Or what that guy at the end of the bar thinks, his sexual orientation not withstanding."

Then why should any of us care what he says? Why give someone that obnoxious a national platform, particularly considering the chances he's ever going to play in the NFL, much less on a level that warrants any attention at all?

Some are, some arent. But this isnt a debate on whether or not you think wrestling is real. Pro wrestling is and always has been a work. And every guy who set foot in the big time was/is an athlete in some way.

Lesnar has always been an athlete in wrestling, both amateur and pro. But it doesnt make up for his stupidity. Not everyone thinks like he does. I was merely pointing out one idiot's comments, not questioning his athletic abilities.

There's no debate on whether wrestling is real or not ... because it isn't.

It's entertainment masquerading as sport.

Those that participate in it are entertainers masquerading as athletes.

A "professional" wrestler trying to become an NFL player is kind of like George Clooney thinking he should be a surgeon because he played one on tv.

As for his comments about gays, it's just pure drama and bluster, kind of like the shit you see on WWE.

Maybe if we ignore him (and the WWE), it will go away?

I thouroughly agree with the former, but do not with the latter. Yes they are entertainers, but to do the things modern professional wrestlers do one must be an athlete. That doesn't mean it will translate into a football career any more than dancers are basketball players. That also doesn't mean he isn't a 'roid popping moron. There are certainly enough of those playing real professional sports.

I agree that while a good deal of professional wrestling is scripted and blown up to be larger than life, to say that the wrestlers are not atheletes is a bit unfair. It takes a great deal of strength and stamina and training to do what they do. Lesnar was an NCAA wrestler as well, which I think absolutely goes without saying is a true sport.

Lesnar unfortunately falls into the category of the professional sports figure that thinks that his athletic ability and physical attributes make him better than others. He's like so many of the trash talkers and showboaters that unfortunately are in abundence in the NFL. They are the ones who after every mundane play think and act like they've just won the Super Bowl. Give me an athlete who excels but lets his actions speak for him. Perfect example--Keyshawn Johnson vs. Marvin Harrison. Remember the trash talking that Keyshawn was doing right before the Colts came back to have the BIGGEST comeback victory in NFL history. Marvin always just lets his actions speak for themselves. Give me a 1000 Marvin's any day. Lesnar so far has been the same...all talk. We'll see if he can produce the goods. Too bad the XFL is not still around--Lesnar would be a perfect fit.

And thanks for the welcome Dallas--glad to be here!

I agree...I'd much rather know where a man stands on an issue then deal with one who has a public opinion and a private (truthful) one...

I've never bought into that belief that if a man says something homophobic, then comes back and apologizes (for) or "corrects" their statement, I'm somehow to believe what was originally said wasn't what was meant.

Tell me the truth and let me decide my next move....but you'll at least have my respect for being man enough to say it.

I think you meant to say Jamie Foxx trying to become an NFL player because he played one on a movie is the same. The wrestling and football analogy didnt work.

But this is a football thread. Amazing that nobody discusses pro wrestling in the other threads about it, lol. Anyway, Lesnar just needs to shut his hole and do some more drills. Then he may one day be a lineman.
Allen
He's probably upset that he didn't get his latest batch of steroids that day, so why not blame the gays? wink

The Vikings signed him.

Call me cynical if you will but I view Lesner's "apology" as VERY insincere....now that he has actually been invited to an NFL training camp (it just goes to show how desperate the Vikings are for "talent") I think he is now trying to be as PC as possible and not make any "controversial" statements -- sorry Brock, but it's a little late for that since you already let your TRUE bigotry be known.

Here's hoping the Vikes cut this jerk real soon....or, better yet, that some big lineman (another closeted Esera Tuaolo?) delivers a mean blow and flattens his homophobic ass in a preseason game. tongue.gif

Not a signing or move that makes me proud to be a Vikings fan. I think it will be a non-issue though since he will be a non-player.
