The B Man:
Last night on C SPAN there was an interesting installment of Inquiry, which I take is a Canadian show. They did a bit on gay immigration. Interesting.
What did they say?

Same old same old: we feel better in Montreal where we're valued, then cue black preacher to scold gay people for using "civil rights" language, then have white gay man retort and cut the issue short. That kinda stuff.
Still, it put names and faces to the issue.

B-Man, 'Inquiry' isn't a regular program, it was just a special extension of the CBC News on Monday evening (coinciding with the eve of President Bush's visit), moderated by CBC anchor Peter Mansbridge. The 'town hall' type discussion took place in Windsor, Ont...appropriate, because it is the busiest border crossing and was convenient for Americans from Michigan to attend. I was disturbed by the comments of that black American man you mentioned, who essentially told the gay couple "racism is wrong, but homophobia is perfectly acceptable". I wish that Mansbridge had allowed more time for rebuttal, but he had to move on because a lot of other people wanted to raise various issues about Canada-US relations.
Also, there was an interview with a man from Seattle who wants to move his family to Canada for political reasons. An American in the Windsor studio audience responded to this with 'Good riddance'.
