Mr Freedom Fries hates America.

A prominent lawmaker who prompted cafeterias in the US Congress to change the name of their french fries to "freedom fries" in anger over France's opposition to the Iraq war, has now turned against the conflict and wants a firm schedule on the withdrawal of US troops.

Jones, a member of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, said "primarily the neoconservatives" in the administration were to blame for flawed war planning. "The reason of going in for weapons of mass destruction, the ability of the Iraqis to make a nuclear weapon, that's all been proven that it was never there," he said.

Also....
"The insurgency is alive and well. We underestimated the viability of the insurgency," Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, said on CBS' Face the Nation. He said the administration has "been slow to adjust when it comes to troop strength and supporting our troops."
Graham said the Army is contending with a serious shortfall in recruiting "because this war is going sour in terms of word of mouth from parents and grandparents." He said "if we don't adjust, public opinion is going to keep slipping away."

Also...
Rep. Curt Weldon, a Pennsylvania Republican who just returned from Iraq, joined several Democrats saying the administration must be more candid and acknowledge that it could take about two years to train Iraqi forces to replace U.S. soldiers and allow a significant pullout.

"We can't come back to America and have our people being convinced that the Iraqi troops are prepared to take over, when they're not," he said on NBC's Meet the Press.

Tee hee hee! They are falling like dominoes in the wind! The irony is delicious! Have another large slice of crow pie, Mr. politician!

You know, I am actually gratified that finally people are talking about this. With all of the information we have received over the past few months on the, at best, inept run-up to the war and complete lack of planning for the reconstruction, it is good to hear that people who once supported the war are waking up. It may be a case of "too little, too late," but at least I get the feeling that rational thought may again be permeating the country.

It goes to show you, its never to late to wake up!

According to this Gallup poll he has company.

What is more encouraging is that this opposition has arisen gradually rather than being a spike in response to a single event. That bodes well for its endurance.

The enduring thing opposing the trend is GW Bush.

This is the tell all statement:

•Of those who say the war wasn't worth it, the top reasons cited are fraudulent claims and no weapons of mass destruction found; the number of people killed and wounded; and the belief that Iraq posed no threat to the United States.

•Of the 42% who say the war was worth it, the top reasons cited are the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, the need to stop terrorism and a desire to end the oppression of the Iraqi people.

There's that connection to 9/11 again.....and terrorism.

Someone in another thread asked why Americans aren't more upset and protesting in the streets, etc........well that's it right there. Americans are so oblivious these days, for many of them we should just do whatever the President wants.

"Oppression of the Iraqi people"? Are these the same people who load up their SUVs at slave-labor, import-megastore Wal-mart every week? They need to learn that China (Walmart's biggest customer) is drowning in oppression when it comes to work conditions.

Or how McDonald Happy Meal toy assemblers......

Who a few weeks ago went on a strike to demand better conditions. Shortening the workday from 10 hours a day, a pay raise of 10% (up to 17.5 cents an hour), and they are now allowed to go to the bathroom without worrying about their pay being docked!

What would we do without those Happy Meal toys.....

Truly a shame none of these same people had the balls in November to say the same thing.

hate to be a contrarian cynic, but, frankly, it's what i do.

it is not a good thing that this slime ball has finally seen the light. there is no better late than never principle to be applied here. all those who are coming to see the error of their ways are too late.

Their views didn't change when the links to terrorists were proven false.

Their views didn't change when the death toll hit 1500 or 1600, what is magic about 1700?

Their views didn't change when it became clear there were no weapons of mass destruction.

Their views didn't change when the fissionable material fantasy was debunked.

Their views didn't change when any of the previous supplemental spending bills to fund the war were passed.

Their views didn't change when the reason for going to war was dumbed down to the ludicrous, "saddam is a really bad man." level.

So, what has finally happened to help all these scumbags who marched unquestioningly and lockstep with the president into this war change their pathetic little, and largely unused minds?

THE POLL NUMBERS HAVE DROPPED; AMERICANS NO LONGER SUPPORT THE WAR. next year is an election year, and representatives are basically campaigining 18 out of every 24 months. so it's time to check the polls and adjust accordingly. these idiots who are coming to see the light now totally lack spines and principles.

do not congratulate them, excoriate them.

Add Sen. Chuck Hagel to the list.

Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel is angry. He's upset about the more than 1,700 U.S. soldiers killed and nearly 13,000 wounded in Iraq. He's also aggravated by the continued string of sunny assessments from the Bush administration, such as Vice President Dick Cheney's recent remark that the insurgency is in its \"last throes.\" \"Things aren't getting better; they're getting worse. The White House is completely disconnected from reality,\" Hagel tells U.S. News. \"It's like they're just making it up as they go along. The reality is that we're losing in Iraq.\"
