I had no idea about this shameful chapter of history. Good for UFAA for doing the right thing, even if after-the-fact.

Did the publications department ever apologize for putting that crocodile on the cover of the media guide? I don't mean to the fans...I mean to the crocodile. smile.gif

Wow, what a twisted, old-school view of homosexuality. Hopefully, there's a corner in hell that is filled with this idiot. I guess he never heard of Jesus Christ. How sad.

Old School?

<<Chuckle>> - don't bet on it.

My sister, though ten years younger, is an Southern Evangelical Christian. She regularly prays for my soul that I turn from sin; but does not want me in her house or around her children until I "confess my sins to God and become born again in Christ".

She has never given her children the presents that I send, because they are "unclean", and she does "not want them to be confused"...

<<Chuckle>>>

She has stated that "...people like that ought to be put into prisons so they sh'ant be around decent Christians."

I know many others in the South that have similar views. Many of them in my family.

Another sister professes to 'hate the sin, but love the sinner'; though she is sorry of course, I am not welcome in her home either.

The sentiments are way to widespread even today -

Still, I agree - Congrats to UFAA - though it would have done better with a complete retraction.

My Goodness, ITJock, your sister sounds like a real piece of work! I guess she forgets about the part where God doesn't need any help in the judgement of others, and, as she is not God, she commits a mortal sin by usurping the ultimate authority of God by passing judgement upon you. Also, I guess she forgot about Jesus teaching us to love the sinner, not the sin. My, oh my, what they teach in church these days is enough to make me want to cry...so far from the true teachings of Jesus. You are in my prayers too, ITJock. I will also pray your sister sees the light of the Lord.

ITJock, I was shocked when I read your post because it is just so contrary to the reaction I received when I came out. While I'm sure there are those amongst my distant relations who may feel that way, my immediate family reacted quite postively once they got used to the idea. All my parents have ever expressed is that I be happy and one day find someone to settle down with. My brothers have each named me as godfather to their sons.
I can't imagine what it must be like to have your own family turn their backs on you just because of who you share a bed with. I hope someday your sisters can reconcile their faith and their affection for you. One of my buddies has had a similar reaction from his family but then he became very successful (read wealthy) and all of a sudden his family had no qualms about visiting him and his partner. Guess when it came to a choice between God and being in the will, money won out LOL.

Yes - I get a lot of that too...

Things may be looking up. During the last couple of years I have even received phone calls from my father at the Holidays; and a couple of my cousins are far more accepting than my immediate family (though that has cost them in their relationship with my family - they have even stood up for me to the family; I am very proud of them, and grateful to them for that);
Family reunions are just not a really good idea though.
What would happen if I brought a BF home, I truly shudder to think about.

Yes, it is truley touching how many people are interested in your final legal arrangements once you have a little bit of money. (At the moment actually my family is doomed to VERY VERY deep diappointment; though a lot of young gay kids will benefit, many will be able to go to college. Lambda Legal will also get a chunk).

I wish it were so, but not every coming out story has a happy ending.
