He does have a good pedigree, working under Rozelle and Taghliabue, as well as a 3 year stint working with Lamar Hunt.

Goodell seems like a solid choice, but he'd have to an absolute moron to screw up the NFL. It's the most popular & profitable professional sports league in the US. The challenges he faces--including refining the NFL's revenue-sharing system and owner unhappiness with the current collective bargaining agreement--are relatively minor and don't threaten the game's future.
