Full Version: Help ! Can anyone recommend a good HR Monitor???

I am looking for a good wrist type heart rate monitor for my workouts.

Problem: I have large wrists - generally I have to have extra links added to watch bands to make them fit. Most of the watch type ones have one piece bands as an integral part of the 'case'.

I also have a large chest - far bigger than most of the chest band type HR monitors can fit (for some reason they seem to be designed for skinny runner geek types...)

Does anyone know of a good quality wrist style HR monitor with a removeable type wristband, so that I can replace it with a larger wristband?

We've mostly used the Polar models, made in Finland. I've got very large writsts as well, and never had a problem, and there was always plenty of extra chest strap as well.

Polar makes a number of models - so be sure to identify the functions you need.

The downside of monitors is that people sometimes tend to listen to the monitor more than to their bodies, and lose the feel of what they're doing. Also, you get the best out of them if you can do some periodic lactate testing and find out where your various levels really are; set-up is really important, or you can possibly find you're not getting the training effect you want.
