Has anybody tried the Slim-Fast diet plan? It seems like a really easy way to lose weight. I don't usually have the time to prepare alot of meals, so the two shakes a day thing seems pretty darn convenient. Anybody have success with this?

I tried it several times. It was a waste of money and effort for me. I lost more weight by simply eating a bowl of cereal w/ bananas, a sandwich for lunch, and a little exercise.

Slim Fast has a lot of carbs, I think, and most folks think it's great, but then they end up snacking to the point where they nullify their Slim Fast usage.

Just my 2 cents.

I lost a lot of weight on the Slim-Fast plan, it is very easy and cost efficent. And as Tommy Lasorda says "You can still eat Pasta" I need to go back on it! Carbs are a good thing if you exercise!

It's not worth your time ... use the South Beach Diet. Tastes MUCH better. smile.gif

I tried Slim Fast a long time ago. Problem was that after drinking the stuff, I was still hungry. I've been doing the Atkins thing for a couple of months. For me, it works pretty well.

Yeah, Slim Fast works for me as a maintenence thing. I was a runner all throughout college and the Amry, so I could basically eat whatever I wanted and stay trim, but since then I've had to rely on Slim fast for three weeks or so a couple times a year just to get me back in control. Office grazing has done me in to the tune of 15 lbs.

Slim Fast? Are you sure that what you want to do for the rest of your life. I love the these diets that promise results and they do deliver sometimes. But the problem is when you get off these diets the weight comes back. Slim Fast is OK if you want to lose weight for a pic or something really quick and dont want to do the effort in the gym. Just dont stay on it your whole life man. But the answer to your question does Slim Fast work- YES. Even I was on it at one time.

Worked for me... I lost approximately 15 pounds in about 3 weeks or so. It's about time to go back on it for awhile again, after the holidays! wink

Whoopi Goldberg is now shilling for Slim-Fast. There's an ad in Entertainment Weekly this week.

I wouldn't recommend the "Slim Fast Diet" or any other diet....the key to weight loss and maintaining a reasonable weight is sensible eating.

I drink a Slim Fast Shake now and then. I actually like them, but remember, they normally are a 12 ounce serving and frankly, thats like two swigs. They also give you major gas.

If you don't have time to eat a meal, then there is no problem with having one now and then to replace a meal you don't have time for, but you can't spend the rest of your life eating one meal a day and 2 shakes. It just won't work. You'll eventually feel deprived.

Don't buy into the low carb thing either. Its not healthy guys if your athletic. If you are fairly active roughly 60% of your diet should come from carbs....and I'm not talking Diet Coke and Cheese puffs. wink

Diets do not work long term....you gotta change your eating habits....you can eat just about anything you want as long as you eat in moderation and balance.

Watch the fat, watch the processed foods....watch the sugar, don't eat between meals, eat your lightest meal at night and exercise. There is no rule that says its three meals a day either. Eat 5 if you want...just balance it.

Slim-fast is great as a supplement to add to a change in eating habits. Rememeber diet is just die with a t at the end. The eating in moderation is the best with losts of fruit and veggies. The body has to have carbs. for normal brain and nerve fuction so to do the low carb diets is not the way to go either. You just have to have the right carbs. ones that are surgar base are not good. It takes a difference of 3500 cal. to lost a pound of fat. When ones sarves oneself the body actually store more fat. so eating 5-6 small meals through the day helps the body relize that it will be getting food regularly and won't store the fat. snacking on fruit and veggies is the best. Limit the saturated fats and sugar carbs and you should do just fine. Stay away from the empty calories, like soda and candy. They give you calories without nutrition.

I've have tried to preach the multiple meals & eating properly to my partner for years. From what I've seen with him...Slimfast/Atkins & the 6 week body makeover only work while you are motivated.

Being that I'm 6'9, my problem has been gaining & maintaining weight, which has lead me down alot of misguided paths.

However, I was finally able to hook up with a trainer who was/is a "natural" body builder and he has told me several things about managing ones weight.

1. To loose weight, one needs to boost their matabolism.

This is most commonly done via exercise. But not everyone has time to work out. So, he also suggested to increase the number of meals through the day (5-6 small meals). Breakfast was/is the most important of these meals.

2. When exercising, you need to get your heart rate to the "fat burning" zone for at least 20 minutes. The fat burning zone differs for everyone, depending on age & fitness level.

Sex can get you to the fat burning zone, if you're doing it right biggrin.gif

3. Your body needs REST. You must sleep at least 6-8 hours a day (depending on your bodies recharge time. Mine is 7 hours minimum)

4. You must stay hydrated. We all know water makes up ove half of our bodies, but how many of us drink a can of pop, over a glass of water? He also says to STAY AWAY from caffinee as much as possible.

I'll stop now, but hope this helps?
