What do you do when you are stressed out? I'm kinda curious about that.
For me, I love weightlifting and it helps for me to talk to my therapist.
What about you guys? What do you do when you are stressed?

Eat and sleep.
That's why I started going to a personal trainer recently to try and get out of that cycle. I've never lifted and worked out like this in my life, so hopefully it will help. I definitely don't stress about outside things when I'm there working out.

Eat........and always all of the bad (good) stuff. Fast food, Ice Cream, cookies, candy bars, and I also start to break out either from the stress or the bad food or a combo of the two..........

I forgot one thing. I watch a lot of humorous shows like Queer Eye or The Daily Show ... just to make me laugh. It really helps me out.

Since my stress is usually related to something at work, I'll shut my office door, put on a good cd, and try to work thru it. Doing nothing about it is not my way of handling it. If you don't do anything to resolve the situation, it's not going to get better--and can make you feel even worse. Try to work on fixing it because the sooner you you do, the sooner it will be behind you and you can move on with things--hopefully, happier things. I hope some people are able to give you some good suggestions. I used to have a therapist I saw every week...but that's another story.

Go to Outsports! Watch HGTV or Food Network which leads to Eating, Go Shopping, Go to the gym, but I think the biggest stress relief for me is surfing the web and listening to music.

Drink. Sometimes a weekday happy hour with my hubby and good friends is a perfect stress reliever.
Dine out. At a really nice restaurant. It's like being transported to another time and place where someone serves me, the food and wine are excellent, and someone else cleans up.
Go Shopping and buy myself some great new clothes, earrings, shoes, whatever.
Sometimes I go home, lay in bed and channel surf.
For me the gym isn't really a stress reliever. Since I go during my lunch hour, it's more of a break-up-the-day sort of thing.

Typical. I'm used to this style of answer in P&R so I guess we can't expect a serious answer from you on any topic. It figures.

When I get stressed my preferred stress release method is retail therapy. Sometimes I eat but I try to avoid doing that.

When I get stressed out, I love hiking with a friend. Good exercise outside and good conversation can get me over many issues. That's good therapy.

I like to get away from people when I'm stressed, so I'll go running or get outdoors. Going to the gym can add stress some times (i.e. parking, overcrowded, stupid people). I'll usually grab headphones and AC/DC or some other old hard rock music to blare.
Tanning used to be another good stress reliever, but I don't do that very often any more.
Playing catch with a baseball or football is another one for me.

Hey MDB - we can grab some Latte's and hit Nordie's!!!
Hey CnSea - how about buying a bunch of socks in the same color, that way you can match up the ones that have lost their mate...

Shopping....is too stressful for me. I can never find my sizes or they don't have the color I'm looking for. The big one is trying to find shoes that fit...wearing a 10.5 4E sucks.
Another fun filled thing I do to relieve stress is go Night Skiing, but that's only good during the winter season.
Remind me to keep my socks out of MDB's reach. CnSea can I see you in just one sock?? wink

One of four things usually works for me:
--Hitting a bucket of balls on the practice range.
--Working in the garden; getting dirt under the fingers is a great stress release.
--Taking a long walk or hike; "I go out walkin' after midnight." As a bonus, my two dogs love this method.
--If it's at work, find a quiet conference room and sit in the dark for a few moments.

SWIM! No matter how lousy I feel, I ALWAYS feel better after I swim at least 500m. I've even tried to psych myself out of going to the pool, arguing inside that I'm too tired to swim, but EVERY time I've swam anyway I've always felt great afterwards!

Last night, I just walked. I walked 7 miles and I called my Grandma and talked. God, I needed to talk to her. She knows how to aleviate my stress levels. I guess I am just like my Grandpa when he was alive.
I guess it's another way I relieve stress.

Physical exercise is the best (well, maybe the second best wink ) stress reliever there is. Not only do you get the benefit of working off steam, but the endorphin dump in your brain is nearly the same as after a good ol' fashioned O.
thersis
Mar 25 2004, 08:55 AM
a good brisk ten-mile run always works for me. it is long enough to be relevant and get the endorphins flowing, but not so long as to be taxing.
but, in reality, we live in a no stress zone, thanks to the dogs. we have two pharaoh hounds, and as with all sight hounds they are very emotionally sensitive. if we (or either of us individually) are stressed, they get these sad it-will-be-okay-daddy puppy dog faces on that could melt a republican's heart (note to self, look up and see if republicans have hearts). this forces the stress to ebb a bit, which they react to with twinkling eyes, which lifts our mood, which cheers them even more, until everybody's happy!

Ain't that the truth about dogs. Yuo can have the sh***iest day ever, but you're greeted at the door with "I love you."
I came home in a heap this past week and Teddy started bringing me his toys. He didn't want to play tug or chase, just wanted to share. (sniff)

try this - go for a swim - or sport of choice - then ease into a tub and soak - get out and meditate for 10 minutes - does the trick!!!!!

It's not just dogs, GJ - my parents adopted two cats when my sister and I went away to college (yes, they replaced us  ) and one of them was a purring machine named Patches. My mother was chronically ill with intenstinal problems, and every time she was sick, Patches would seem to sense it - she would climb on Ma's lap and center her purring right over the part that hurt - Ma said it was like a massaging heating pad and was the best thing to make her feel better.

I like to hit tennis balls with a pro at my club for an hour. I just whale on the ball and get all my frustration and anger out. It's exhausting, but no matter what's bothering me, I feel better after I've done that and then had a long, hot shower.
