Does anyone know of a good weightlifting program on the internet for a semi-beginner whose looking to put on some muscle???

Thanks in advance for your help.

Let me preface my remarks by saying that I am not a physical trainer and have no formal education or training on exercise routines. With that out of the way...

I use bodybuilding.com. It has tons of information on its databases page. I recommend the "Find the Perfect Workout for You" and the "Exercise Database". Take the workout recommendations with a grain of salt, and if you haven't done so, you should consult a physician before beginning your exercise program. (I sound like an infomercial) However, it's a good place to start and can give you an initial routine which you can later change and tweak as you listen to your body.

In addition, the Message Boards are good for asking questions and the Photo Galleries are good sources of inspiration.

Also, the Muscle Tech site mostly sells stuff, but they also have some interesting articles on exercise routines for specific body parts. That may be more advanced if you're just starting out, but it's something to keep in mind.

Hope this helps and good luck!

WWCD, I don't honestly know what Chrissie would do, but what Chris Evert should have done (against Martina) was to put on some muscle, so you deserve encouragement. A site I like is www.greggavedon.com which has a lot of stuff on weight lifting, including easier programs. It also doesn't hurt that he's practically the best looking man on earth, so you can enjoy the pictures if nothing else.

My degree is in exercise physiology. It's hard to give someone a program without showing them technique of some of the exercises. Best thing to do is to get a PT with a degree and NCSA certification. Be careful choosing a personal trainer, most of them are not well qualified. The best are the ones with a degree in exercise physiology with NSCA approved CPT or CSCS ceritifcation-- to start you out with a program.

If you need motivation, keep the trainer. If you can pick up on the program and stick with it yourself, then do that for a while then you can change your program once you get a little more accustomed to working out.

Another good web site for various programmes is Bill Pearl's at http://www.billpearl.com/. Go to that site and click on the programme tab for a week-by-week plan with explanations on how to do the exercises. Bill Pearl is an old classic with a few world titles and I admired for being somewhat of a vegetarian.

Thanks so much you guys. After I'm done using this information, I'll forward it on to Ms. Evert. smile.gif
