Catch the New York Gay Football League and me on tonight's episode of Queer Eye on Bravo at 10pm. One of the league members gets a makeover, and the football league and I try teaching Carson how to catch a ball!

Queer Eye - Jeff B. episode

And if any of you New Yorkers wanna watch it with me and the football league, we'll be at Gym Bar (8th Ave. & 18th St.) from 9:30 on - I hope to see you then!

Cyd, I'll definitely tune in. Met some guys on the NYGFL board this weekend and had a great time.

I won't be able to make it to Gym Bar, but have fun!! smile.gif

Let me guess - they had a cocktail in their hands? biggrin.gif

I thought they only made over straight guys, or is this a gay guy who just desperately needs to come into the 21st century. I's rather play ball with Kyan that Carson wink

I agree this show is stereotypical and changing people who probably don't need it, but you got to laugh at Carson and the rest. I don't mean laugh at in a viral or mean way, but there's just something about queens that make me smile.

Edit: Okay, and I have a thing for the food guy. That Elvis Costello look is hot.

Nice plug Cyd. wink

I watched the show tonight. You guys could not find any grass in NYC to play on? That guy did need some help. Wish I were his age again and I would do some things different.

I found it entertaining. They're not trying to make a big political statement; they're just trying to make good TV, which I think they do relatively well.

BTW, they cut my best line - when Thom said, "red team, you suck," I offered the predictable, "and the blue team swallows." I wonder why Bravo cut that . . . wink

Personally, I think it's great to have a platform to grow gay sports. I'm sorry you thought we shouldn't have done it. I personally disagree.

I normally don't watch Queer Eye but I watched it and thought it was entertaining as well.

I enjoyed it too. So Cyd, did the guy ever come back to play football with you guys?

actually, they seemed to have learned from the debacle of the first gay makeover.the last time, they were openly mocking the guy for not having a gaudy fashion sense (i mean, who the hell is carson to give fashion tips...he dresses like the child snatcher in "chitty chitty bang bang"), for not pathetically over-grooming himself, and all the other gay cliches.it was sad and depressing to watch. this time, the message seemed to be "you can be whatever kind of gay man you want to be".there was still a little of the "how can you be gay and not like CHER" bullshit, but it was kept to a minimum.actually, i would have preferred just an hour of watching you and the guys play football biggrin.gif

Yes this was much better than the last gay guy the made over. I was so worried it was going to be let's make you over to be gay like us. I continued to be worried in the beginning when the gay guy said he wants a gay look. He falls into the trap that many guys do when the first come out, that they have to do something to be more gay, to have a gay look. Gay is not a "style" it is what you are. I was glad latter the five fab did not go over board, and that he got it.

I thought the footbal scenes where way to short. Wanted to see more of that.

Wow we gays drink a lot. Meeting new friends? Getting a facial? Buying new furniture? Learning how to cook? Watching a party recap on video? Yeah, we've got a cocktail for that.

Cyd you were cute as always but I think I like the life changing episodes better. I didn't really see any life changes here except that a gay guy got a lot of cool stuff that will probably be destroyed by neglect and misuse over the next year.

This guy is awkward and cute but as you can tell by the results, he's gonna have to find his personal sense of identity and that really can't be rushed. You can't be a comfortable gay guy just by wearing hideous shoes.

Jeff played with us in the fall and the spring (this was taped last summer). And, a little FYI - we LET him catch that pass. So, when the dad said Jeff said we weren't very good, that's why the bitch in me came out. The play before, our defender intercepted a pass to him. I told him to go easy on him. So, he let Jeff run right by him and Jeff caught the ball. Jeff is a good player, though. You can see he was a top scorer in our league last season: NYGFL Spring Stats

Do you know if they post the episodes online at all? Bravo Canada didn't show it
gmginsfo
What impressed me most about the guy was that he was clerking for a federal judge.

Overall, I liked the episode and LOL a few times. The drag queens at the end were more than a bit cliche - "not in MY house, you don't!" - but the focus on the parents and the roomies made up for it. The football scenes were good, but I'd have liked more of them too. BTW, how did things go between him and his date over the months following???

I recorded it on my media center and it's almost 4 gigs. I don't have any editing software so it's got D-list on both sides and commercials left in but I'd be happy to burn it to DVD and send it to ya.

I could also HJ Split it into 4-5 parts and upload it to Rapidshare if you like.

Just send me a PM and I'll hook ya up.

So true!!! Cyd is Cute! biggrin.gif
Jeff needs a southern hospitality make-over to show him how to relax and be a good host. How did the cooking school go?

Geez, the show is supposed to be fun and campy...why do some of us still call it 'stereotypical' and so on...that's the silly fun of it. I find it interesting just to see the different comments from other gays. Of course the drag queens would be too much for some of the stodgies here and elsewhere who want us to be portrayed as perfectly respectable to the str8 and conservative.

I think having Jeff see that there actually is a gay football league was fantastic for him and for the show. While this show rarely shows the more butch side of our diversity, it's fun and well-meaning. And Jeff and his friends provided something you rarely see on TV: real vulnerability. I thought it was very sweet.

I think it was a great episode. I gotta say I think Thom said it best that being gay is just one small component to who we are and we can be whoever we want and not fit into any certain stereotype.

It's so true.

Okay ... Michael ... HOT! Guys like Michael DO NOT exist in Minneapolis. My jaw dropped when I saw him.

Damn!!! biggrin.gif

okay...you totally missed the point of my complaint.the last time they madeover a gay man, they ridiculed him for not conforming to a stereotype.it's not that i want anyone to necessarily be portrayed as respectable to the the straight community, i think people should be allowed to be THEMSELVES. i guess my problem is with makeover shows in general. i can't stand them.their only goal is to strip people of their individuality...the message is always "there's obviously something WRONG with you, so you need to conform to what we say is appropriate".
hockeyTom
I hope they can somehow do a followup and see what became of the dating couple, Michael and his his new boyfriend who was featured. I thought the installment was great. Had me laughing a plenty. Some great one and two liners all over the place. biggrin.gif
Cyd at Outsports
I believe that Jeff and Michael didn't have much more than maybe one other date.
