I went to Black Gay Pride in Atlanta over the weekend. There were supposed 30,000 people. I had a good time, and I think that the events that they put on were really informative (Homophobia in the Black Church, HIV), and I am glad that they had some NAACP representatives come out.

I was wondering did anybody attend Pride in Atlanta, and how did it compare to the other Black Prides around the country?

Just returned from Atlanta also....had a great time, but don't think that a whole lot of the people who went there attended the "workshops", etc that you mentioned....seems like most of them were standing in the parking lot of Bulldogs instead....

This pride has become probably the largest now in terms of parties and attendance...seems bigger than the DC event; there were four or five private promoters/producers doing parties every night...definately bigger than Splash in Houston...

I didn't get a chance to hit Black Gay Pride in Atlanta this Labor Day weekend, but I can say it is one of the premiere Black Prides in the country. It's only real competitor now is DC. Toronto is hotter than you might think, perhaps because Pride there coincides with Caribana and brothas can creep up there under the guise of going to Carnival. Philly can also be nice (when the weather cooperates) since their Pride is during the weekend of the Penn Relays. New York (which rightfully should be the leader) is still in a tragic situation as two crews continue to fight each other and end up with nothing in the process....

My partner and I went to the DC event a few years ago. I liked it culturally and for the beautiful guys, he liked it mostly for the eye-candy. I think my partner got a bit pissed because we met an old "paramour" of mine and he's been put off by such events since. Always felt a connection to DC because I went to school near there (U of MD in College Park) and have a good friend who I still keep in touch with in PG county. Didn't know there was an event in Philly. Shows how much I get out...30,000? Huge!

I lived in Atlanta from 96-99 and I pretty much confined myself to the more cultural events surrounding black gay prides after I went to the one in 96. After all, paying ten bucks to get in a club (shut up; Loretta's used to charge only $5 on a regular Friday night) seemed silly to me after a while. Plus you could barely get in--it seemed more cost effective to stand outside and ogle. Better lighting.

I liked Chicago's Black Gay Pride--what little of it I saw, that is.

One day, I'll get up to DC for Memorial Day.

I went to Black Gay Pride in Atlanta and had a great time. This was my second time, the last time I went was in 1997 (my freshman year in college) and it is pretty HUGE now. Memorial in Miami is also turning into a HUGE event, as a lot of folks are getting tired of going to DC. there wa an estimated 20,000 black gay folks here in Miami for Memorial Day. I had great time in Atlanta and had a few good hookups too (if you know what I mean). It's GREAT being single again!!!

Other than the New York Black Pride(s), I haven't been to one of these in years. I feel a bit too old (in my late 30s) and therefore not really in touch with the whole DL feel of so many of these events.

My partner and I used to go religiously to DC Pride every year for about 10 years, but then finally tired of the sameness of it. I know some of the people who organize Chicago's Black Gay Pride celebrations, and used to know the people involved with New York's, when it had one. But I strongly support any events that are helping people to take pride in who they are, as well as that offer educational programs and resources for those who want and need it.
