In today's SFgate.com, it's reported that Jeff Garcia was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Oops! I honestly hope it's a mistake!

49ers' Garcia arrested for possible drunken driving
San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia was arrested early Wednesday morning due to suspicion of drunken driving.
The three-time Pro Bowl selection, who attended school at San Jose State and still lives in the area, was pulled over near the school's campus. He was detained and booked around 3:30 a.m.
The San Jose State University Police Department will release a statement later Wednesday to provide further detail.
The 33-year-old signal caller is coming off a 2003 season where he completed 225-of-392 passes with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The 49ers missed the playoffs and finished with a disappointing 7-9 record.

Garcia, per the SF Chronicle, was at the SJ Sharks game earlier in the evening, and supposedly was shown on TV during the broadcast, beer in hand.
No truth to the rumor that he stopped in at Renegades after the game. (One of San Jose's few gay bars, Renegades is just a couple of blocks from the arena.)

Well that certainly won't stop the chatter about how this is a (homo) cry for help. I'm surprised they didn't just get his autograph and let him go.

The police reports apparently indicate that there were three other passengers in the car with Jeff - one man and two women....you KNOW if it had only been Garcia and ONE MALE occupant in the vehicle that certain members of the media would have been "fanning the flames" of speculation for the entire offseason.
On an unrelated issue, have any Bay area Outsporters heard updated news about the likelihood of Garcia playing elsewhere next season?....I'm not sure if Jeff's contract is up yet but between Dennis Erickson once again proving his skills (or lack thereof

) as an NFL coach and the "emergence" of Tim Rattay I think a change of scenery could be the best thing that ever happened to Garcia -- as least as far as his career on the field is concerned. wink

Here is the pic of Jeff crouching to hide from the press...poor guy. I got it from espn.com Do you think his binge drinking, if that is what it is, could be the result of sexual orientation angst? He send my gaydar into overload.
Shame is a terrible thing

Well... no. Here in the Bay Area there have been "rumors" that seem to be based largely on the fact that he doesn't have a really deep voice. He was asked in an interview about why there are rumors and he joked, "I guess it's 'cause I dress really well" (Yeah, it's that metrosexual thing again). But unless you mean the
gay media (which in SF is a complete joke), I don't know who around here would be fanning any, er, flames. It's not exactly a topic that's on everyone's lips.

I'm sorry to hear this about Garcia; he always seemed like such a responsible, exemplary fellow when he played up here in the CFL. Obviously he is quite embarrassed about the incident.

What I don't understand is why pro athletes even get DUI's. If they're a bit tipsy, surely they have the money to get a cab or hire a driver or something.

Hi-5 Jim Allen! I know if I had 1/2 the moolah these guys had, I'd own a limo with a full time chauffeur.

Yeah but then they hire these chauffeurs and use them for target practice at the end of the night.

I'm sick of these athletes getting special treatment when they transgress. Throw the book at Garcia.
That was horrendously bad judgment on his part.

It's so easy for us to judge what these professional people go through.
Give em a break and throw the book at him if it happens again.

Police records were released today -- Jeff's blood alcohol was nearly 3 times the legal limit.

Yeah, it was somewhere about .24. Legal limit in CA is .08 - youch! How many damn beers does a big guy like Jeff have to drink to get to that level? I would guess quite a few. eek!

What a bizarre story. I just can't imagine two girls fighting over a somewhat marginal heterosexual that isn't even very good looking and talks like Truman Capote.

Maybe he's well..., gifted in a way that can't be readily seen by the general public. If you know what I mean. eek!
