The Indianapolis Colts have signed Tony Dungy as their new head coach. Dungy, fired by the Buccaneers last week, signed a 5 year deal. Financial terms were not released.

He certainly has his work cut out for him on the defensive side of the ball. It will also be interesting to see how he handles a top rate offense. My gut tells me he will have great success, barring injuries to the key offensive players (Manning, James, Harrison).

Dungy's New Job

Good for Dungy, who I think got the shaft in Tampa. He'll do very well getting that awful Colt defense in shape, and a halfway decent offensive coordinator is all Manning, James, et al need.

Dungy had a choice of Carolina or Indianapolis. I'd say he made the right choice.

I wish Coach Dungy all the best with Colts. He is a very deserving and overall nice guy. He built my Bucs team into a strong contender over his 6 years and for that alone, must be respected. Unfortunately, he did fail in ever producing an effective (even average) offensive to match our tremendous defense. . . just think how much strong our defenses would have been over the years with an offense that ranked in the mid teens instead of the mid 20's. Instead of hiring one of his buddies as offensive coordinators over the past 3 years, he should have gone out and gotten a big name coordinator and just left him alone to do his thing. Gawd knows the talent has been there with the likes of Alsott, Dunn, Keyshawn, and Brad Johnson. Too bad. Good luck coach.

Dungy should be fine in Indianapolis. He's a gentle enough coach to handle Manning, one of the best QBs in the NFL, and has the defensive expertise to turn the Colts' secondary and defensive lines around. Don't forget that this team was one of the highest-scoring teams in the league. If Dungy can thoroughly turn the defense around in a year and James comes back strong, the Colts could be in the AFC championship....

In the realignment, what division will they be in?

AFC South with Houston, Jacksonville and Tennessee

Which I think makes them instant contenders. Tennessee should have a better season next year, but no reason why Indy couldn't win this division.

me thinks it will take Dungy a bit longer than one season to turn the Colts defense around. . .didn't they give up the most points in the league or something incredible like that? Don't get me wrong, Dungy is a defensive mastermind but not a frickin Gawd! AT least give him 2-3 years to get it in shape. bigbucboy
