(AP) -- Snow driven by wind gusting to 57 mph closed schools and made highway travel hazardous Wednesday on the northern Plains, and halted an Amtrak train.

Some highways in western South Dakota had drifts 3 feet high, authorities reported.

A stretch of about 100 miles of Interstate 94 was closed from late Tuesday until midday Wednesday in eastern Montana, from Miles City to the North Dakota state line.
....

Amtrak's Empire Builder service across North Dakota was halted Wednesday by blizzard conditions, said Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari.

Twin, I CAN RELATE! I love living in CA and I really miss a good strong Winter - but only for about the two weeks that I usually spend in Chicago for XMas!

This is my country! When i was back home for x-mas I almost got trapped in my home town and miss my flight because a blizzard came in and shut down the highways. I'm so glad to be in sunny L.A. now!!

I have some awesome pictures of it, but I didn't have my digital camera so it's just on regular film. It was kind of crazy and scary!! I think they had a record number of accidents that weekend. But it's Montana so the rest of the world usually doesn't know because it doesn't affect anything. eek!
