So sayeth the latest Zagat Surveys of restaurants, hotels/resorts, etc. -- Philadelphia diners leave an average tip of 19.1 percent, highest in the nation according to the survey.

Well Hell's bells JIP, 19.1% on a cheese steak sandwich can't be that much.

But they dine out on average only 2.6 times per week. A lower average gratuiity in a market where diners eat out more frequently could net you more money in the long run.

Then there's also the question of prices. I'd be curious what the average cost of a meal is in each location?

We eat out 4 to 5 times a week (not including lunch) and only cook on the weekends. We always tip 20% unless the service has been horrible.

I suspect that the scales were favorably *tipped* in 2004 by hot, generous tourists attending the Outsports Convention and the Phillies Gay Day. (From what I recall, the locals are real cheap bastards. wink ) Either that, or new resident T.O. is a huge tipper.
