Finally a bar just for us :-)

Zman...have you been there yet? I'll be in Atlanta on Wed and Thur and that might be fun to go to. How close to Buckhead on Piedmont?
Zman
It's right in Buckhead buddy. Check it out :-)

I give it a thumbs up and hope it's successful. Still a little rough around the edges. I think they need more TV's with bigger screens. It's way too smoky for me, but that may just be a gay bar thing that I have to live with; I don't do the other bars out there too often. The menu could improve (but I'm obsessed with the homemade potato chips at Jocks and Jill's) But it's a great concept and a great location and I hope it continues to be a success (it's been pretty packed the 2 times I've been).

This looks like a really great place and I hope to visit it soon. I suggest writing the owners and asking them to set aside a few non-smoking sections, based on airflow, layout, etc. The non-smoking bar idea was greeted with skepticism in CA when it first became law but everyone agrees it's been a huge success. The more feedback the management gets on this, the more likely they are to do something about it now, when they're just getting going.

wait, a gay bar in buckhead, not midtown??? Wow.

Don't worry, Trev, just technically... it's just barely across the border in Buckhead. Midtown safety is merely a stone's throw away, and the Midtown air drifts over, so portable oxygen tanks aren't even necessary.

In another thread, wade n atlanta posted:

An article in the Atlanta Journal/Constitution about Woof's. A gay sports bar on Piedmont Ave. It is a good place to visit and hang out with other OutSports.Com posters. It's also a good place for hunting Bears. Not many shaved chest in this gay bar.

Woof’s got a huge article in today’s Atlanta Journal Constitution, covering half of the front page of the Living section with pictures and everything. Here is the article online:

http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/living/01...03/24woofs.html

Joe’s on Juniper (my favorite, yea Alice!) gets mention too, as well as Jocks and Jills (sends some overflow to Joe’s).

As a sidebar, I’m working with Jocks and Jills to make their 10th/Peachtree location an official Atlanta Auburn Club hangout, so would encourage my gay Auburn brethren to contact me and help get good turnouts in Midtown for AU events.

That's cool that Atlanta's got a true gay sports bar. Chicago's lacking in that area. Just another reason why I miss Atlanta smile.gif Gotta check it out when I'm back next.

BTW, haven't been there in over a year, but I thought the plan was to tear down the Jocks & Jills on 10th for an office/retail development.

The 10th/Peachtree block was slated for a big development (hotel/condo/retail) but was pretty much put on hold after 9/11 (or so I've been told). I think the long term plan is still to do something on that block, but it won't happen for at least another 3 years.

Thanks for posting the link to the latest article, ATL Jock, but there's one mistake in it: Uncle Bert's Place in SF's Castro neighborhood is HARDLY a "gay sports bar." Too bad SF doesn't have a Woofs of its own. Until it does, there are always the "technically straight" sports bars in the Marina and Cow Hollow - and hope! biggrin.gif

Yeah, the closest thing we have is North End, which telecasts a lot of games but is woefully short on screens. I like the place, but it's more of a mishmash "anything but circuit boys" bar (with food, of course, because those of us who have no illusions of circuit-boydom have to eat). At least the ads are sometimes good for a chuckle (especially certain matchups, like Rams vs. Packers). biggrin.gif

I was in Nashville this past weekend, and discovered that Nashville has a real gay sports bar called George's. It reopened this past November. I went there Sunday and they had the playoff games on a couple of TVs and a college basketball game on another TV. It wasn't crowded, but apparently it was packed Sat. night during the Titans game. It's a nice place, and encourage those in the Nashville area and visitors to Nashville to check it out. And the owner is cute too. smile.gif

Where is George's in Nashville?
John King
Yeah, the owner of Woof's is nice. He happened to be sitting next to me while I was there.

The place is way too smokey, but it is a nice place. Not to mention the hot picture of Brady Anderson hanging up on the wall.

Actually the gay sports bar in San Francisco is not Uncle Bert's (now under new ownership and called "Mix"), it's The Cinch. The Cinch is not in the Castro, but on Polk Street at about Jackson.

There is a new gay sports bar here in Austin, too, called Sidekicks. Have any other Austinites gone there, yet?

Hi Hornfan. The address is 1501 South 2nd Ave., about 15 blocks south of Broadway.

I have wanted to do this in L.A. for some time. Moneymoneymoneymoney....

Has anyone been to the Fox Sports Grill? They are starting to build them all over. Not particulary gay, but they are fabulous with giant T.V. screens all over the place.

Puschkin, does Uncle Bert's still have those frozen margaritas? I remember them having the best frozen margaritas in the Castro.
Puschkin
Couldn't tell you, Nascar007. I pretty much only drink margaritas with Mexican food.

The only thing rarer than a Gay Sports Bar in South Florida is a REAL Mexican restaurant! If you visit south Florida be ready for an overload of Cuban, Spanish and Italian. (By the way, for you South Florida folks I don't consider Alibi's a "sports bar" just because they have TV's that show the games. When I'm in there I'm the only one watching them! And if you are thinking about "Kicks", that is a lesbian sports bar...)
