First of all I would like to wish Jim and Cyd the founders of this site a Merry Christmas.

I am so grateful and appreciative of the fact I have this site. There are times I don't know what I would do without it. It means a helluva alot to me, and the same goes for me in wishing everybody else here the best this Christmas. Good luck to each and alls favorite teams this next year too!! All the best in 2006 as well. wink

I want to wish all outsporters the best holiday wishes, and hope everyone here enjoys whatever celebration they are accustomed too. Now is also the time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the next one with high aspirations.

A politically correct greeting:
May you have a nice, non-descript, non-denominational celebration of the passage through the birth canal of an unnamed being of unspecified sex on a day alleged to be but not limited to late December....

What is sufganiot? Would I like it? Can I eat it in my current condition? (That last part won't make sense right now but eventually the story will be told...

)
I meant to post a holiday greeting before I left for the desert, but didn't get to it, so please accept my belated greetings, however you celebrated. And special thanks to a certain Outsports couple who sent me a Christmas card, even though one of them was rather distasteful in his remark about a certain blue-shirted hockey team. Then again, he merely needs to look at the standings right now....

I like jelly donuts, but I don't have them very often. Usually when it comes to donuts they're chocolate. wink

Since I don't like doughnuts of any sort, I have just one a year, during Chanukkah, and consider it quite the sacrifice!! Latkes, on the other hand, I consume in mass quantity--especially of they're made from zucchini or carrot instead of the more usual potato.

UGH, Adam! You are so southern California

.
Out here, the greasier and more potato the latke, the better. Just like the more chicken fat in the matzo ball soup, the better.

I love latkes, but they don't love me. I may be total Midwest, but I am totally with
Adam. I can't handle donuts, they end up feeling like cement in my stomach. I blame my mother for corrupting my digestive system...she never served fried foods, always fresh veggies, making it nearly impossible for me to go out on a greasy fast-food binge. My holiday fav is kolachkies (I have no idea how to spell it...it is a Polish or Bohemian pastry, usually with fruit filling) My mother makes them best...she rolls the dough almost paper-thin, which makes them light. The kind I can purchase in the stores are usually thick and doughy, which I do not care for. But mother dearest has not baked them since retiring. Here I thought once she retired, I'd be in pastry heaven...no such luck. She's too busy painting or crafting or riding her bike. Oh well, it's her retirement, she's entitled to enjoy it. I just miss the kolachkies! (And her walnut roll too!)

Ahhh, you brought back some very fond memories of my Polish grandmother baking all her goodies during the holidays and one of them were
kolaczkies! (i had to look up the spelling of them..

) Another favorite dessert was chruscikies (fried dough with the powered sugar!)
On Christmas Day, dinner with my family consisted of golabki (stuffed cabbage) and pierogies, and on New Year's, it will be kielbasa. wink

Actually, the first time I had carrot or zucchini latkes was in Israel (go figure.) Other than those I make, the only "strange" ones I've had in LA have been made with sweet potatoes. And there's nothing greasier than zucchini latkes!!

Favorite Christmas card I received this year (wish I could find it online somewhere!):
The Pope, lying in state at the Vatican, in the foreground. Presidents Bush, Clinton and GW Bush are kneeling and praying over his body. The voice bubble from GW says "What happened to Santa". I laughed my ass off when I saw that one!
