The Cowboys cut Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all time leading rusher.
ESPN.com reports he was released to make way for a younger cheaper running back. There's talk they may be interested in Stephen Davis, recently cut by the Redskins.
I gotta think Smith will catch on with somebody. He seems to feel he can still can 1300 yards. I'm not so sure of that, but he can certainly help somebody. Nobody expected Jerry Rice to be as successful as he's been with Oakland!
I was also surprised to see the Chargers cut Rodney Harrison. He could help the Vikes!

yup, he'll catch on somewhere else, and godd ole jj in dallas will be wondering why he let him go. the only reason his numbers dropped so was cuz coach? campo didnt use him the way he should of. wheres campo now? wheres he gonna be. good luck to the tuna. hopefully his cardiovascular system is in goo working order cuz its gonna be a long haul in Big D.

You mean the cowboys can get worse than they have been?
Dallas is going to make a run at steven davis, if they get him the tuna can pound the ball and keep games close. That way the cowgirls only lose by 17-20 pts to the iggles instead of the 30+ they are used to.

Dallas just signed Richie Anderson and they'll probably stick him in the backfield with Troy Hambrick.
There's talk that Emmitt has met with the Cardinals and that another meeting is scheduled.

My god, why would he ever sign with the cards? Has he gotten that used to losing?

He said he was only going to sign with a team that had a chance of making it back to Super Bowl. I guess Emmitt knows something we don't.

Well if he signs with AZ, then no one will have to see him in a different uniform... no one watches the cardz... It's almost like he retired, but still gets to pad the stats.
That would be sick, all the cowboy fans would once again invade the cardz stadium in their emmitt jerseys, rooting for the cardz?

It's official:
Emmitt Smith signs with Arizona. Their coach says he'll start.

That's perfect! Retire to a place where they ALREADY love you! And you get paid for it. I hope he reaches 20,000 yards before he's gone.

Pretty sad that he'll end his career with the Bidwills, one of the worst franchise-owning families in major league sports. The Cardinals have won only ONE playoff game since 1947. Emmitt is unlikely to change that losing streak. But he will have beauty Marcel Shipp to break in! wink

This is a prime example why the carzzzzz will never win nuttun... I saw they are paying emmitt 4 mil a year to play for them... i could be wrong.. The mans not washed up, but he is not a 1500 yard back anymore. Why do the cardz sign him? to try and put butts of the cowboy fans in the stadium. Is it to win, no... try and boost attendence? yes... Hey, it's like plummer, come see the good-ole ASU boy, to bad he sucks but he's the home town boy.
Hey not too much bad blood towards emmitt, on a team of class punks, he showed the most and didnt get involved in the hookers, crack or pot.

This appears to be more of a PR move rather than a strategic one. I like Emmitt. I think he's a class guyand one of the all time greats. If he was happy just to come in and mentor Shipp and Jones, I'd say fine. But Smith wants touches.

Hey, if you look at it like this.... who wins more games in the last few years... dallas or the cardz? We'll call that a push... Now if you can only get used to playing in front of the 4 fans that show up.........

Isn't this a sad comparison, though? One team has a deranged, meddlesome owner, the other one just a fat, cheap one. I feel for the fans of the Cowboys and the Cardiacs.
Emmitt should collect his paycheck, add to his yard total and try to think as little as possible about the disaster site around him.
