Talk about a nasty winter so far. This morning in Spokane, -21 for the low. I can only imagine how cold to our east, in Idaho and Montana! No thank you!! A high of +1 today. Whoopee!! Been hearing about all the snow in Seattle and especially Portland, Or. as well. Now I hear we here in Spokane can look forward to maybe 4 more inches of snow on Tues., and maybe another 2 inches on Wednesday. All this can add to the 8+ inches on the ground already. Lord have mercy. Thank goodness for snow blowers! wink

Oh, the temp right now in Minneapolis is zero.
Adam
Here in Los Angeles it's partly cloudy and low-60's. Brutal!! tongue.gif

It is currently 23 in Seattle with very dry cold wind chill in the air. I am happy we will be getting back to normal later this week, rainy with temps in the mid 40's smile.gif

I actually still have a couple of inches of snow on my lawn still. That is almost unheard of here in Seattle, it usually melts within hours.

I have always thought that it can snow as much as it likes as long as it doesn't snow on the roads or sidewalks it would all be good. wink

I wouldn't mind the snow if I wasn't commuting to Lynnwood or Seattle during the work week. It's 40+ miles to Lynnwood from Mount Vernon, and about 60 to Seattle. Up in Skagit County, We still have snow/ice on the lawn and driveway.

According to the news (depending on what channel, the amounts bary), we're expected to get more white stuff later tonight. I hope it dumps so the offices are closed!

This one's being called "January Blast". The media just cracks me up. They make it seem so extreme.

My partner drove up from Portland to Mount Vernon this am. He left PDX at 12:30 and didn't arrive home until 5am. He said the roads were pretty clear except for the Kelso area, which was a sheet of ice.

When I lived on "The Hill" I used to walk a couple of blocks and watch the crazy people try to drive their vehicles down steep hills. Bam!

Well, you guys are probably going to hate me for this, but here in Winston-Salem, yesterday was in the mid-70's (ON FREAKING JAN 4!!); today is expected to be high 60's.

Tomorrow comes back to reality, though... we get what you had the last few days. Temps are supposed to drop 35+ degrees from today to tomorrow.
fantomas
It took me 13 hours to get from Newark to Chicago Midway last night/this AM because of the "snowstorm." We had to land in Indianapolis, etc. etc. It was a horrorshow. You'd think Chicago had never experienced a blizzard--and it wasn't even a damned blizzard!

Plus every child on my airplane had a full-blown cold! Don't parents teach their children to cover their mouths any more? And I'm expected to be effective at work today???
TonkaManOR
Right now in Portland, OR. the temp is 20 degrees with winds at 12mph with peak gusts up to 41 mph and Snow flurries. Wind chill -6 degrees. We're supposed to have 5-8 inches of snow by Tuesday morning. It was a cold wait at the bus stop this morning! tongue.gif
KeyWest Guy
It's 81 and sunny today. I actually had to turn on the a/c at the office this afternoon. Anybody want to come on down and join us for a visit?
RCKSoniK
Oh yeah, On the news Live Breaking Coverage of the storm of the century of the year. It has been so cold and windy that Miss Anderson's garbage can was blown across the street, coming up a live interview with Miss Anderson.
Marc
I thought I was the only one freezing my 'cojones' off, but it sounds like Puckman in Spokane and Allen in Minneapolis are sharing the experience! Here in Calgary at 2pm MST, it's -15 Celsius, which translates to approximately 5 degrees Fahrenheit (are you guys in the US ever going to change your system to what the rest of the world uses? smile.gif tongue.gif ) Actually this temperature is balmy compared to what we had on the weekend (daytime highs of -25 C or -13 F). But contrary to popular belief, it's often quite mild here in the winter, thanks to the occasional 'Chinook' which can boost our temps to 10 C (50 F) in the dead of winter.

Check out my most recent post in the "People Who Should be Shot" Thread regarding this snow thing, fantomas. The second bullet point addresses it. smile.gif

Laugh now, for I shall have the last laugh indeed!

When the ice age comes, we northerners shall rule the world (and I shall be their leader biggrin.gif ), for you southern wimps will have all frozen to death due to the temperature falling under 60 degrees.

It never ceases to amaze me when I travel to the southern climes and it's something like 62 outside. The natives are wearing their jackets or "winter" coats, complaining about how "cold" it is. Meanwhile, I've got nothing but a short-sleeve shirt on and am quite comfortable.

You will all perish soon enough, you weather wimps! tongue.gif

P.S. Q: Why do all the football fields in Minnesota have artificial turf on them? A: So the cheerleaders don't graze. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

The other bad thing here is our cable is out. I called Comcast earlier and they couldn't tell me if the outage was weather related or accident related or what. We have been down for about 18 hours. Its a good thing there is not a hockey game on ESPN right now, because I may have to consider somebody being shot!!! eek!

South Dakota, Minnesota? What's the difference? Certainly none in terms of temperature. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I played tennis in shorts New Years Day and Saturday here in DC. Now its chillier (I think, haven't left the office all day) and rainy. Supposed to get colder. Fine with me, I'm a big autumn/winter cold weather guy.
maxallen
10 degrees in KC right now. Had about 1/2" of sleet followed by a dusting of snow yesterday, with plummeting temps.

Just as people in Florida wear their jackets when it's in the 60's, in the springtime everybody here whips out their shorts when it hits 60, and when it hits 65, tank tops suddenly materialize on half of the gay guys in town. Friday afternoon it got up to 67 here, and when I went to the grocery store that evening after the temperature had dropped about 25 degrees, there were lots of people shivering in the shorts and t-shirts that they had donned earlier in the day. Idiots.
MIB
Friday night I sat out on my balcony with a drink in hand, looking at Christmas lights and contemplating the meaning of life. I did this with nary a windbreaker on, for it was in the 60's. Saturday I watched the snow flurries and Sunday the snowstorm. Now THAT'S a weather change!

We all comment about the ridiculous weather hype. But you know why the TV stations keep doing it? Because every time a storm threatens, the ratings SKYROCKET! We all complain but we keep watching!
KeyWest Guy
. . .just turned the a/c on again this morning. Doesn't anybody want to come down and discuss the insanity of the BCS with me over drinks by the ocean? wink
MIB
Ask us again when a Cat. 4 hurricane blows away you and everything else down there. smile.gif
hockeyTom
Looks like Seattle and Portland got their fare share of the white stuff, now its Spokane's turn again. Maybe another 8 inches of fun. Snow, guys, think snow. eek!
MarinerFan
Yes it has been snowing non stop since 4 am this morning. Seattle is one big ice hill biggrin.gif I was one of the few people who made it into work today. It is supposed to warm up to the 40's this afternoon and start raining which should help thaw us out a bit. Then we can look forward to some flooding.

Is it the cold the makes you bitter or are you just that way all the time? rolleyes.gif

You offer a friendly invite to come share some good weather and some wicked witch hopes for a category 4 to land on your house. Love and kisses to you too.

To everybody else, stay warm and toasty. wink

I offically dub this storm a Norwester. We hear constantly about the Noreasters back east. This one just won't quit. I was watching Northwest Cable News last night. Seattle got something like 6 inches of snow, then freezing rain last night, but Portland is a mess. They got dumped on, then last night got sleet/freezing rain/snow and blizzard like winds as well. Even Olympia, the capitol of Wash. State which rarely gets snow got 7 inches! In Spokane we got about 3 inches overnight. Currently snow with freezing rain here now. Got about 10 inches on the ground with maybe 2-3 more today.
Gaga4Gaby
It's friggin freezing in New York today and is supposed to stay that way all week. I actually am headed down to Miami in just over a week and I'll be more than happy to be there! This is miserable...but at least it's not snowing.
amazin12
Yeah it was 18 degrees this morning in New York City and right now on my computer it says 24 degrees. Cold weather sucks. If I could, I would prefer to go outside in just t-shirt and jeans or shorts every day of the year. Screw hats, gloves, thermals, scarves!
Munson Man
Brrrr......looks like our first extended cold snap in NYC has begun. This morning I turned the heat on in my apartment for the first time this winter. It doesn't help that I'm just back from the holidays in South Florida, where it was a perfect 80 degrees every day. The routine was morning tennis, oceanfront lunch at an outdoor cafe by the gay beach, followed by a nap on the beach. Oh, well, at least the cold gives me areason to wear all the leather and cashmere. smile.gif
TomFord
There were snow flurries right around 7pm in New York yesterday. I want snow! It's always warmer than this when it snows, and it is frigid today. I'm being so lazy and extravagant taking cabs everywhere (instead of walking) to avoid the cold.
SoFlaSpartan
I'm actually in South Florida now -- the high today's only going to be about 74. Brrrr!!

Funny. I would've thought the warm weather down there would have loosened up those panties of yours. biggrin.gif
Allen
Okay, the temp RIGHT NOW in Minneapolis is -14 degrees. Yes, it is cold out and the weather will be the same for the next 10 days!!! (according to the Weather Channel's web site)

I am so pleased that I am living here right now.

How is the weather where you are? biggrin.gif
KeyWest Guy
I would say sunny and 73, but i'm afraid MIB would wish another category 5 on me.
TonkaManOR
54 and rainy. Windchill feels like 42.

A cold front is supposed to move in and drop temps back to normal.
Allen
I hate winter. My mother almost had to push me outside when I was little. I've always hated snow, I've hated really cold weather. Give me balmy, humid, sweaty, sultry weather anyday!!
BPT-336
Sunny smile.gif , windy and 25 here with a wind chill of 11. Balmy in comparison to last week when I woke up in Albany to -11. And I had to go outside in that for a funeral. sad.gif eek!

I couldn't agree with you more, Allen....this winter has been one of the coldest EVER here -- and it's not even February yet!....we've haven't had a TON of snow thus far (but even shoveling 5-6 inches is more than enough for me, which I've grudgingly done 3-4 times already, including twice in the last week sad.gif )....a LITTLE change in the seasons is fine but not wind chills in single digits (or below zero) EVERY NIGHT.

Give me sunny days near a beach anyday!....besides, the "scenery" near the ocean and not seeing every guy on the street bundled up under three layers of clothes is MUCH preferred, too. wink
metromathis13
Hmmm....I kinda like winter. I love skiing, and the snow days are a big plus. But other than that, I would much rather be spending winter in somewhere warm...

Overnight lows expected to be around 10 below, and that's without the wind chill!

Record cold in the northeast this winter. Cold temps in the Midwest that haven't been seen in 10 years or more. Record cold in southeast Europe, causing hundreds of deaths.

Global warming...riiiiiiiiiiiiight. rolleyes.gif

This has been the coldest winter here in a lot of years. I'm so sick of the cold and snow.
