What should be a sad story--the suicide of a 19 year old NYU student, who jumped from the roof of her boyfriend's building after having an argument with him--ends up being quite comical when her grieving label-whore of a boyfriend pours his heart out to the New York Post.

\"We pulled up at a corner, and I saw the ambulances, and I just ran toward them. I saw a pool of blood, and then I saw her.

She was wearing my Merrill Lynch baseball cap, and the white Banana Republic jacket I'd bought her. She had her white leather purse - she always wore it over her shoulder so she wouldn't be robbed. She had been wearing Prada sneakers that matched mine.\"

Wow, I had no idea that Bret Easton Ellis had joined the ex-gay movement. smile.gif

There seems to be a lot of suicide at NYU.

It's all of the drama. smile.gif

The Post actually had a photo of her falling on their front page yesterday.

19 year-old Diana Chien f[ell] from the 24th floor roof of 990 Sixth Avenue (between 36th and 37th Streets) hours after fight with her boyfriend. A man living in a neighboring building had been looking out his telescope, saw Chien on the roof, and called police. Chien had been dangling from the roof for a few minutes, but then fell. Passers-by noted the impact (\"It sounded like two cars hitting each other at 30 mph. She bounced once.\") and a Post photographer had been on the scene (\"I'm a big fan of movies, and in the movies someone always gets that jumper to get back in. Part of you thinks it's not going to happen and then the unreal happens - she fell.\")

curious that a poster named TomFord starts a thread in very bad taste about a sad death and names it label whores. who's the whore?

Its a weird comment the b/f made but its not really FUNNY. IMHO.

Yeah, it's terrible.

I once came across a big crowd that had formed to look up at a guy who was threatening to jump off a bldg on Park Ave South around 25th street. The police had set up a big yellow inflatable thing where he was likely to land. Now, you'd expect the crowd to be all solemn and sh. Not at all. Everyone was joking about the whole thing. Some were taking bets on whether he'd jump or not. I even made a half-hearted attempt to get the crowd to start chanting "Jump! Jump!" for his benefit, but, as flip as the crowd was, they weren't quite at my level of nastiness. And, I later learned, after several hours, the f**ker disappointed everyone by not jumping.

Listen, killing yourself is sad, that's for sure. But some part of me likes to mock people who make a huge production out of it.

Geez, TomFord, I can't figure out if I'm almost as twisted as you or if you are almost as twisted as me! smile.gif

The "production" part of someone's attempt at suicide is a desperate cry for the help/attention/love that they need to feel that life is worth living. Being a component of whatever drives some people to suicide, whether the individual goes through with killing themselves or not, it is still very sad.

Yeah, well, I'm crying Lancome tears as I type this.

Bobby: I love the Bret Easton Ellisness of his comments. I've read that Post story about 5 times now, and it gets funnier with each reading. Not one, but TWO mentions of Prada--that's brand dedication!

It's great that she's to be buried in a pink coffin - "her favorite color," said Lam.

Bet it's his too.
