The Atlantic season kicks off on June 1. Where's the party?
World-renowned tropical storm expert Dr. William Gray's latest prediction information can be found
here. He has a reputation for being quite accurate.
Will this be another punishing year for Florida? Time will tell.
BTW, if anyone's interested in some cool video footage of Hurricane Charley of last season, you can click

ok. I'm such a dope. I couldn't understand the post cuz I thought it was about the Miami 'Canes football season coming up.
But yeah... they better have a better season this year.

Don't you worry about my Canes. We'll start off the season right with #7 in a row against F$U soon enough.

We need a major hurricane to sweep through the Keys. That part of the state hasn't been cleaned up in years.

Nah, I have too many friends down there who've said I can stay with them when my power goes out AGAIN this year (I had power for 14 days last September, from two hurricanes)....

Why not hope for a tsunami? It's much more efficient in that respect.

Hey, Hey, I am a Broward resident, and I'm east of A1A. We haven't taken a direct hit per se, but we had a LOT of damage last year even without a direct hit. Miraculously, even though I'm right on the beach we never lost power, and areas west of us had more damage, which was weird. Frankly, I hope none of us get hit - it's nervewracking to go through, and I'm amazed that anybody would actually hope that another area actually take a direct hit.

I can think of a couple of places I'd like to see a direct hit: wherever they're doing the next "Survivor," wherever they're doing the next "Real Gilligan's Island" (yes, there IS a season 2), wherever the "Big Brother" house is...

Good point. It would definitely sweep out those WHO HAVE NO FRICKIN' SENSE OF HUMOR. Survival of the fittest, I think.

And you won't see it anymore. The name "Bob" was retired after Hurricane Bob in 1991, and "Bobby" is a form of the retired name so won't be used.

Sigh.
I live within 3 blocks of Galveston Bay....each Season brings a sorta sinking feeling in my stomach....we're long overdue for a direct hit...there was a recent article in the Houston Chronicle spelling bad news for all of us in this area should a "5" come our way.
THE BIG ONE But, I grew up here....it just comes with the territory, I suppose.

One nice thing about hurricanes....NO LINES @ DISNEY! We were there last year as Ivan was bearing down on the state, and we could walk right on every ride. They weren't even doing any Fast Passes.

i just moved to a home on a canal a block from the gulf of mexico. I hope this is a mild season.
OK, we're 4 days into the 2005 hurricane season. Where's the beef?
The season's first tropical depression has formed in the western Caribbean this morning:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATC...ml/082050.shtmlIf it developes into a tropical storm, it will be named Arlene. It is expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend.

Btw, what's Hizzzhoner's obsession with hurricanes? Strange for a midwesterner.

MIB, Hurricanes aren't cool. We rode out Eloise in the 70's and it was awful. We were even inland about 80 miles and I can still remember the howling wind and rains that went on forever it seemed.

Oh no! Not again! June 2005 was an all time record rainfall for Central Florida for the month of June. We had over 16.74 inches!
rainfall We live in Titusville which is just East of Orlando by the Kennedy Space Center and we are having a time just keeping the lawn mowed. You can almost see the grass growing!! We have our storm shutters ready for action when they make the announcement!!

God's memo: All the sinners in Key Queer, errr, West, should consider fleeing. Oh wait, I guess that should read 'everyone needs to get out of Key West.'
If the path of Dennis is consistent, it looks like New Orleans, that city of decadence, will get hit head on, but of course, who ever knows with these things.

Fortunately with Cindy going through that area already, Dennis wouldn't be nearly as strong as it potentially could be if that's the path it takes (towards NOLA). Add that cooler water that will be present to the weakening that will take place as it travels over Cuba and maybe it won't be too bad. We'll just have to see.
Worst teaser I've ever heard on the news: "Mississippi is about to get windy from Cindy while we're wondering if Florida will be menaced by Dennis."

Hey, let's me finish the work from Ivan before these storms of destruction go through. Dear God, please don't let a hurricane hit the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast until at least the end of the August.
As bad as it sounds, hurricans are good for business.

Jul 6 2005, 02:22 PM
Flooding in Mobile from TS Cindy was horrendous. How cruel if this thing hits them as well. Mother Nature is a beotch.
So far, all the "predicted" tracks take Dennis right into the Gulf Coast area of the Florida panhandle and AL./MS. This can change, of course (and probably will), but he's predicted to be most likely a Category 3 or higher storm.
Herr Tiggee
Jul 6 2005, 03:48 PM
This is from one of the most accurate computer modeling programs linked thru NOAA - and if its as accurate as it normally is, then folks in MS & LA better brace themselves.
FYI - this is animated, but refreshes itself..

You might get a message that the modeling graphics are being updated.
IF that track is accurate, then AL and MS would get the worst of it because of their being on the right front (northeast) quadrant of the storm. LA. would be spared some of the brunt.
I also noticed that that model takes Dennis's remnants up into the Midwest, where God knows we seriously need the rain.

For the love of God, please spare Pensacola/Mobile. Those poor people in Pensacola haven't rebuilt from last years and Baldwin County, AL is just in the middle.
Tropical waves off the African continent are rare at this time during the hurricane season, for the Cape Verde season usually doesn't start brewing until August.
Interesting.
