Montreal in December can be... chilly. But it's a fabulous city. Check out the
Montreal webcams and the
Tourism Montreal website (which has a section devoted to gay & lesbian travel).
Old Montreal is definitely worth seeing. Very charming and European. Stop in at
basilica Notre-Dame de Montreal, a beautifully grand cathedral (Montreal is home to many wonderful churches). You can take a romantic horse and carriage ride, bundled under a blanket. There are also some very nice restaurants there, too.
When visiting Montreal (in warm weather) I always go to
Mount Royal the park in the centre of the island. The park was designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead (who designed Central Park in NYC). There are stairs you can climb up the mountain to a lookout with beautiful views of the city, cycling paths, walking paths, etc. There is an illuminated cross on the peak.
The gay village on Ste-Catherine St. E. is worth visiting. St. Laurent, and St. Denis (
the Latin Quarter) streets nearby are happening streets for music, restaurants, shopping.
Ste-Catherine West and Sherbrooke are the downtown shopping, hotel and museum areas.
At the site of Olympic Stadium is the
biodome nature museum.
Almost everything is accessible by subway, although you should take a cab to the
casino.
And don't forget: John Lenon and Yoko Ono staged their famous
bed-in in the Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal, and recorded
Give Peace a Chance.
