Do we really turn into our parents as we get older? I just turned 41 but over the last two years, I have been hearing more and more comments from people in my life related to how my behavior, thinking and even my walking are like one or both of my parents. Some of these comments include this one from my sister “you are just like mom (in regards to my hyperactivity around the house)” and this one from my mom “you and your dad think exactly alike (in regards to politics)” but the kicker happened recently when my partner and I were walking our dogs, and she said to me “you know, you walk just like your dad”. Huh? I don’t exactly know why but hearing comments like these usually makes me cringe, not because I don't love them but god, being like them is the last thing I ever expected! eek!
So what about you, what do you think? Have any of you heard comments suggesting that you are becoming like one or both of your parents? And do you think it is true that we eventually turn into our parents in one way or another?

I am just like my mother, but it's not comments from other people that make me notice it ... it's when I'm talking to her on the phone or interacting with her somehow, and she says and does things to make me realize that I feel and/or react exactly the same way that she does. She says things that I can hear myself saying. And I've often been told that I'm really sweet most of the time but that, when I'm mean, I'm very mean ... my mom is like that too.
Ironically, I look almost just like my father.
None of this is cause for concern in my book, though. The apple don't far fall from the tree.

I was on the phone with my cousin from LA and my partner was in the bedroom watching tv. Suddenly he walks into the living room and just looks at me. I asked him what was wrong and he goes, I thought you mother was hear visiting.
My mother lives in LA.

Oh yeah, my mother says i'm like my father with almost everything i do. especially if she doesn't like it. We are born 30 years & 2 days apart.
My favorite is when she calls me "a whore, just like your damn daddy". I work very hard to not be a whore. hell, thats why i live in nebraska.

You can still be a whore and live in Nebraska.
There are a few times I act like my hotheaded parents and not think before I speak. It gets me into a lot of trouble when I do that.
Thanks Mom and Dad.

I am most aware of this transformation when I spend time with my sister, who has always taken after Dad but in recent years his most irritating traits have truly surfaced in her. Her leanings make my "Mom-like" traits more pronounced.

Both my brother and I are very odd amalgamations of both our parents. While he tends to talk like my father, he thinks like my mother. While I'm just the opposite. The really funny thing is that my father and I get along fine. My mother and brother are not a good fit. It's really ugly when two self-righteous always right people get into an argument.

I told myself for years that i would never say a lot of the things that my father said.
Well, for the past few years, my loving partner has pointed out that those comments tend to pop out of my mouth now. (gee honey, do you want EXTRA spicy curry tonight?)
I also discovered that sometimes one can make a comment in fun and have it taken the wrong way. Some of my staff are from South Asia, and are very superstitious. At a staff meeting last year, I caught myself using a phrase that my father would have said, and with out thinking said "my father is throwing his voice from beyond the grave". The look of total horror on some of their faces told me that I had some serious backtracking to do, immediately. Some of them still crossed themselves anyway.
And to make matters worse, I look exactly like my dad, right down to the flat ass.

I've been told I'm a clone of my father, except with my mother's eyes. My dad was a wrestling and football coach for about 30 years and has the body to prove it. I guess that is where the similarity ends. I'm taller and more of a swimmer's build, while he has a very muscular physique, one I am sure I could obtain if I spent the next 30 years working out. Oh well, LOL! I think my mom is prettier than Linda Evans, which is where I get the pretty-boy looks from, so I guess I am a mix of the two. I love my parents, and as I have become older, they have become good friends of mine. They are fun to be around (something I could not have said during the teen years) and I always enjoy their company. People say I am most like my father when I become angry, which, thankfully, isn't too often. Also, everyone said I was beginning to turn grey just like my father, but a little "Just For Men" took care of that.

Yep, the transformation was complete about two years ago. We have big mirror in our back foyer and I turned the corner into it and saw my Dad facing me in the mirror. I was one of those stop dead in your tracks moments and go OH HELL. Not only that, but I pout just like he does, too. If my husband ever wants to get my goat and really make me mad, he calls me by my Dad's name. {Fireworks}
Also, there are 4 of us and three look just like my Dad's mediterranean side of the family and my other brother looks like the mailman (running joke in the family). Actually, he looks like my Mom's family. As we've gotten older, the three of us have started looking more and more like each other. I had a picture in my car of my brother and his family and one of my co-workers asked me who those people were I took a picture with. Ah, genetics.

Okay, I thought of something...sometimes when I'm laughing, it sounds like my dad. This does not please me one bit.
