Buccaneers at 49ers
San Francisco rookie QB Alex Smith sprained his knee in Sunday's loss to Washington and has been wearing a heavy brace, but he probably will play. If he can't, or if he is unable to go the distance, the 49ers will be left with Ken Dorsey and Cody Pickett. Coach Mike Nolan might look across the field at some point and wish he had never traded Tim Rattay to the Buccaneers.

I mean, com'on folks, shouldn't threads have been started for each one of these transactions?

WOW! STILL bitter over that week 1 loss? wink
I find it ironic that you are speaking of the Bucs possible record when they have the best record in the NFC, beat your Vikings (at Minn). Your Vikes are currently 2 - 4 and have only put up 90 points (Miss Moss?), while your defense has allowed 155 points.
Will you still be a Viking fan when they call Los Angeles home?

Actually, please tell us who the Yucks have played and BEATEN with a winning record?
Anyone who is looking at the standing in week 8 and saying who would go where.. that is just stupid.
The Yucks record is a matter of schedule, and is not how good they are. Had they beaten a team with a winning record, or even played a team with a winning record... some might consider them contenders.
Look at the bengals, they played a poor schedule and lost big to the only good team they played.
Welcome to the first half of the yucks schedule.

First of all, you need to take a look at the contenders in the NFC this year (looking at the records going into week 8).
Giants- Seem to be OK at home, but can’t win on the road.
Pokes- Are losing close games they should not.
Sad to say but Washington just MIGHT be a somewhat legit team. They have played semi well at home and on the road and their Defense has kept them in games.
Tampa needs to play someone before they can be considered anything but a team that won games they were supposed to win. With Simms, I see them as nothing more than a running team with a rookie QB. Put 8 in the box and make simms beat you. While he might look good against a bad SF team, Simms beating Carolina is another thing.
That leads to the Eagle running debate. When you rely on something too much, a team can’t win when it gets taken away. Take Vick for example, when you take away his scrambling ability, he’s a poor QB and will never beat you with his arm. That is why that team will fail to win big games against good teams.
Same goes for the Seahawks, until they prove they can win on the road, they are not contenders. It’s clearly my opinion that Philly, Washington, and Carolina might be the best 3 teams in the NFC.
However, make no mistake that the truly good teams will come out and play in Nov/Dec not Sept/Oct.

Dallas has already cut their long snapper this season, and now their kicker. What is next the holder?
Oh yeah, and typically these things don't happen under a Reid team.
To me, it just suggests that Akers will kick this sunday. Or he's rolling the dice that Cortez can make a few kicks until akers comes back for the washington game.
Now that I think of it, FreedomFries or Cortez, they both give me butterflies of "how will this get screwed up" when the FG unit comes in.

I'm back! My event was a success, but let me tell you, 14 hour work days while 7 months pregnant REALLY SUCK.
Arizona at Dallas – Dallas (Especially after that Giants game.)
Chicago at Detroit – Detroit (I hope the announcers spend the entire game talking about what an ass**** Joey Harrington is again. That was really fun last week.)
Cleveland at Houston – Cleveland (This could be considered a Suck Bowl, but really only Houston sucks really bad.)
Green Bay at Cincinnati – Cincinnati (How many offensive players do they have to lose before people start to think that Brett Farve isn’t “Magical” so much as “Jinxed and Evil.”)
Jacksonville at St. Louis – Jacksonville (Steven Jackson can’t do it all, you know.)
Minnesota at Carolina – Carolina (The LOVEBOAT, cruising with hookers and public sex, the LOVEBOAT! My question is this: Are the strippers and hookers from atlanta THAT good that you import them?)
Oakland at Tennessee – Oakland (who the hell is the QB at Tennessee? Volek? Who the hell is he throwing to? I have no clue!)
Washington at N.Y. Giants – Giants (They have the whole Mara thing and the Power of the Young Manning Jedi to keep them going.)
Kansas City at San Diego – San Diego (Tomlinson is gonna be BACK, baby!)
Miami at New Orleans – New Orleans (I guess, I mean, who the hell really freaking knows at this point. These two teams are freaking weird.)
Philadelphia at Denver – Philly (of course the final score could be really stupid low. It’s gonna be a kickers game! Which is also humorous since Jose Cortez is now the kicker in Philly. That man is like a fungus.)
Tampa Bay at San Francisco – Tampa (DORSEY DORSEY DORSEY!)
Buffalo at New England – Buffalo (this is my long shot game. But New England is all weird now, and Buffalo has fully freed itself from the JP Losman Experience, so it’s anyones game!)
Baltimore at Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh (There is no raven’s passing game, and Jamal Lewis has become a slug, so it’s definitely Pittsburgh.)
I now return you to the same freaking conversation/hen peck party about the same freaking three teams that has been raging for 8 weeks now. eek!

Puckman - the Denver/Philly line has remained pretty steady all week. The Broncos are tough at home and the Eagles have been outscored in the first quarter (half?) 41-0 on the road this year after being maybe the best road team the past few years. So an early start will be crucial. I'll be at the Orchestra during the game but checking the score on my cell (that is; if I'm awake

The Giants are up 19-0 but should be up 42-0. Washington is absolutely pathetic.

The Eagles played badly today as DM went 0-12 on his first 12 passes. I am a bit tired of Andy Reid's post game statements. No matter how the players do in the game, it's always the same. "It's my fault, I take responsibility, and I need to do a better job."
Someone needs to ask him, if he is indeed responsible for the outcome of each game just why has he not done a better job in the losses, and when does he plan to do so? One reporter asked if DMAC's poor throwing had any thing to do with the injury and he responded no, I need to put him in a better position. Well damit Andy do it, and try running the ball a bit in the 1st quarter to take some pressure off of the QB.
I am done ranting now, continue as you were.

A few thoughts:
1. New England -- I think the party's truly over. This team looked ugly. UGLY!! They were bad, they took a delay of game penalty on a FIELD GOAL, and they made mental mistakes that you don't expect a team of their caliber to make. Ick, ick, ick.
2. San Fran-Tampa Bay -- yup, was a snoozefest. Almost as bad as the Miami-New Orleans game. The Bucs now have Tim Rattay, who practiced EVERY DAY against the 'Niners defense -- so use him already.
3. The Bears will win the NFC North, largely because of their defense, which holds teams to just a few points a game, and which allows their offense to do the minimum necessary to win. Reminds me a bit of the Ravens defense which wound up winning a Super Bowl. Lovie Smith has done wonders with this team.
4. Brett Favre -- retire, please. Five INT's, and that bizarre fake spike at the end which fooled NOBODY. Enough already.
5. Philly's defense -- even IF they make the playoffs (and that's a big if right now, since they've already been pasted by Dallas, and I'm not sure I like their chances against the Giants right now), they won't beat Atlanta OR Seattle OR Carolina OR really anybody they'd have a realistic shot of playing. They give up WAY, WAY too many points, even with McNabb to T.O. And no, it's not all Andy Reid's fault, regardless of what he says at his press conferences.
6. Cincinnati -- playoff-bound this year, but a year away from Super Bowl contender. Could be scary next year, though.

Had a feeling the Buffalo game was a must-win for the Pats to salvage the season. But they're still on life support. Only true grit will get them a winning season and/or into the playoffs now that the bump and run defense has been taken away by the refs.
I'm loving the parity in the game now, but hating the fact I only see a couple of games per week (though I admit I felt dyslexic watching the multiple games when I visited Jim in LA.
