LAKERSRDABOMB
Has anybody here ever been diagnosed for this? Just last Tuesday, I found out I am suffering from it! It is not a desease but a condition, I have been taking Effexor (A depressin medication) for over 2 years, 2 weeks ago I had a problem at work and couldn't stop crying, later that night I was suicidal. (I'm normally not a tear dropper) It was ugly but I called my sister and did survive. This past Monday I got in an awful fight w/ a good friend and co-worker no fists were thrown but it sure got close to that. I couldn't stop crying once again, later that night I had trouble concentrating and my mood swings had me visualizing murdering Chico to quitting my job! I was either in tears or full of rage. Eventually I called a very good friend, and discussed everything. I was not suicidal that night. Come Tuesday when I had to work w/ Chico again I started to cry again. Evenyually I had to leave work, and visit my doctor, He doubled my depression medicine and prescribed another drug called Seroquel, but told me to take it only when another episode was coming on! My friend told me I was Bi-Polar (Manic Depressive) and I panicked. He is a pharmacist in Philly so knows his drugs. Anyways my Doctor called me the next day to see how I was, I asked him about being bi-polar, he said "No I had a condition called Hyper Mania" That is why he didn't prescibe Seroquel for everyday use. Anyways can you folks help me out here? You helped me w/ GHB, My fathers death, etc! I couldn't post for a while but Cyd took care of that, so don't think I am just using yous'e, Do any of you have this disorder or know anything about it? I'm alsostressed aout family, money, and alcoholism! Plus the LAKERS awful year. Any help/ Advice will be apprecited! LAKERSRDABOMB!

Well, I would've thought this was something made up. "Hypermania" sounds like a word they'd use in a sales pitch or something. I Googled it and found mostly links to music lyrics and such. But one link was an online medical dictionary which states that hypermania is "intense mania with overwhelming tensions, marked disorientation, and incoherence."

There's something called "hypomania" (note the spelling difference) that Google had many more medical references for, but from reading some it doesn't seem like precisely the same thing. So you may want to be sure which one you've been diagnosed with. Are you seeing a regular medical doctor or a psychologist/psychiatrist?

Sorry, can't help with the Lakers. wink

Thanks Joe, I am seeing a regular Doctor. He told me I am not crazy, just need to take control of things! He suggested I not see a psychatrist, because he believes the condition is only temporary. I thought I was having a"nervous breakdown" but it is totally stress related. Thanks for your support, but sorry I can't help you w/ the 76ers either! Thanks again, I appreciate it! BTW It is definitley "Hyper Mania" Your Friend, LAKERSRDABOMB

No, I don't think you are crazy. If I didn't know better, I would suggest it is post-pardum depression, but I serious doubt it is that. You simply have a chemical imbalance, easily corrected with the PROPER medication. I do not think you are receiving proper meds. It could be a drug or dietary interaction, or simply the wrong meds being prescribed. If your doctor does not want to re-work your meds, you may want to consider finding a different doctor.
