But I am a desperate girl:
Do they still make Shamrock Shakes from McDonalds and can you get one anywhere in NYC. I will drive upwards of 15 miles for one.
Please advise.
Thank you!

Yes, thank goodness. I've loved them ever since I was a kid. I don't know for sure if they have them in NYC, although I don't see why not. I just had my first one of the season last night...and I'll do it again!

What's so tasty about them? The Soylent Green? I never eat at McD's.

They're mint flavor. I love them, but haven't had them for years. They come out around St. Patrick's day. I may make a special trip to McD's just to see if they have them here.

Too funny but , I guess it's like when you have something that tastes so horrible once as a kid, like Tab, plain yogurt or candy corns, and you can never have it again as an adult because that taste stays with you!
Shamrock Shakes always tasted like stamps to me! And, I remember when they tried Pumpkin Shakes-gross!

Aren't Shamrock Shakes a nationwide thing? I was in a McDonald's this morning and they have signs advertising it (available from March 1-17 and saying that for each shake purchased a quarter goes to the Ronald McDonald House charity).

I thought they were nationwide too, but last night we were out at a gallery thing and I was talking about the shakes so we decided to get one. Well, THREE McD's later (all in Queens) NO ONE had them. Hell, one girl didn't even know what we were talking about.
I'll probably have to drive to PA for one. Damn.

We have them here in Ohio but if you don't, you can make them with a vanilla shake, green food coloring & mint flavoring.

By the way, a little rum can definitely spice up a shamrock shake. This comes from years of experience at the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade (which was this past weekend, by the way).

For what it's worth, the McDonalds near my office in downtown LA has a banner announcing that Shamrock Shakes are back. Another banner encourages "Make it a Filet O' Fish Friday."

WSF, I wonder how a little Bushmill's or Jameson's would do?

How about a jigger each of dry vermouth, creme de menthe and tequila? eek!
BTW, Mickey D's came out last - AGAIN - on NBC's Dateline survey of fast food restaurant cleanliness. frown

I have never in all my 29 years heard of a Shamrock Shake. I don't eat McDonald's much, but I think if they had them in Georgia when I was growing up, I would have known it.
St. Patty's Day is a much bigger deal here in New York than it ever was back home, but by the time I got here, I stopped with the McDonald's so much.
It's gotta be regional. I had no idea what y'all were talking about and had to ask a friend, who thinks I'm crazy for not knowing.

Since this is a McDonald's shakes thread, I have a question about them I hope someone will be able to answer. As I keep kosher, I have never had anything from McDonalds, but work with people who seem to subsist on their food. The shakes always seem to have some strange aroma--definitely nothing dairy--that linger in the air long after they've been consumed. What ingredients go into McDonalds shakes that cause that distinctive aroma??

I doubt anyone will read this post but I can't sleep and shamrock shakes brought back a childhood memory. After we all had our shamrock shakes the next day I ran to my mom and told her something was wrong because my poop was green. She laughed and explained how green shakes can turn your caca green.

Well, because I'm sure some of you were probably not sleeping at night, wondering if I ever got my shake, I just wanted to let you know that I DID NOT get a Shamrock Shake.
Apparently, NYC is full of heathen evil-doers who know nothing of the joys of the minty-goodness that is this shake. Next year, I am going on a pilgrimage to find one.
And I weep for those who have never had one. They are fabulous!

Just found this thread... and I thought I was the only one with a shamrock shake obsession. Wow. Glad to know I'm not alone. Nothing says March like college hoops and a shamrock shake.
The sad thing is that they're a little addicting. I avoid McDonald's at all costs usually (especially after seeing Super Size Me), but the shamrock shakes are a guilty pleasure only accessible two weeks a year.
