Full Version: Shaun Alexander apologizes for comments after Sunday game

I must say I am a bit disappointed in Shaun Alexander based on what I read in my sports section this morning. I will keep the story brief:

Shaun Alexander issued a public apology Monday for questioning Mike Holmgren's quarterback sneak call in a big win over the Falcons, a play that Alexander initally claimed cost him the NFL rushing title.

" I am human," Alexander said at team headquarters. "Anyone can at one time pop off. I have done it several times. I think in the position I'm in, I need to own up to it."

Alexander created a stir after Seattle won the NFC west title, by beating ATlanta 28-26 on Sunday. In comments immediately after the game, he used strong language to challenge Holmgren's play call.

While watching the game and understanding what was going on completely at the time, yes it would have been so cool for Shaun to get the title he wanted so badly, but at the same time, in my mind, that should have been his second priority. Getting the Seahawks the win that they so desparately needed, in my mind, should have been his first priority, no matter what it took to make sure the Hawks won, which of course they did.

I am glad he apologized, but was somewhat disappointed about what he did and said initally. I hope he is able to deal with this, and move on, as he will be needed on Saturday with his full and undivided attention in playing the Rams again. Is it tragic though he missed the title by one measely yard? Absolutely, but you have to put the good of the team first, in my opinion before thinking of yourself only.

My thought is that instead of blaming that one play, he could have blamed himself. He put himself in that position, not Mike. Seems to me that one more yard could have been made at several points in the game where he didn't make it. He should have run a little harder and dragged a few defenders on a couple of plays. It's just so easy for people to blame someone else these days and take the heat away from themselves. That would have been the answer, not blaming Holmgren's call. rolleyes.gif

This is nothing more than a double standard.

One yard, wow who cares. Fat Ass 2 is responsible for winning the game. If you are lined up on the goal line like that, who says that alexander gets in? To me, the QB sneak is a perfect call because everyone expects Alexander to get the ball.

Since Alexander has a rep with the media of being a "Good Guy" he will get the postive press instead of calling it what it is, being selfish. If a player such as TO pulls something like this, we would read stories all week about how he was concerned more with his own selfish stats.. than what was good for the team.

This story comes out how the media wants it.
