...write with, use most in sport or wank with?

Some background:

This poll was motivated by a hockey thread and an earlier informative thread about left-handedness both of which mentioned a French study concerning lefthandedness among athletes and gays. The issue is contoversial inspiring both a group, NARTH, which was established to oppose the notion that the two are linked and several sites of famous people who are left-handed some of whom may have chosen to become ambidextrous?

So what's with all the ambidextrous wankers? There must be some sociological signifcance there. wink
MCMikeNamara
Well, some of us need both hands...
sportinlife
So three so far write with the right but play sport with either hand equally. That would tend to support the French study if significant since survival in manual battle requires the skills of sport more than those of writing. Interesting that one poster in the thread I referenced in my initial thread wrote that he was born lefty but forced to use his right. I wonder if that forced instruction included wanking.

I do just about everything right-handed, but I use my left ear when I listen to a phone and I come up for air on my left side when I swim.

When I play ultimate frisbee, I've actually become better at using my left than I am at using my right in spite of years of practice with the right. If I want to be sure of a throw, I'll use my left hand.

Lefty all the way here, and my completely unscientific observations are that we have many left-handed people in our community, it seems like a higher percentage than in the straight community. At a recent dinner of friends we sat down to eat and noticed that 50% of us were lefties.

I am so left-handed that if I had to use my right hand I don't know what I would do. And I have played bball for over 35 years and have yet to master a right-hand layup, I can do it but it is ugly. Only thing I do that would be classified as right-handed is golf, which may be why I am so terrible at it.

I agree -- to the point that simply seeing a guy wear a watch on his right wrist gets the gaydar working. Of the eleven starters on my softball team, four of us are lefties. Pretty high number compared to the rest of society-at-large.

Well, just put me down as a freak - write as a rightie, wank as a leftie and use both equally in sports - like Destiny Rules, I found the left hand very useful in Ultimate - but for me I catch left and throw right.

I know I am a natural leftie, but because of some residual brain damage (please keep your jokes to yourself) from meningitis, my left side is far less coordinated than my right. So my parents had me use my right hand to write with because it was better able to grasp the pencil/pen. And like most lefties made to write rightie (say that 5 times fast) my penmenship is horrible.

In the bigger picture, I have often seen the link between lefties and homosexuality and athleticism discussed - certainly if gays are more likely to be left-handed, it supports the biological nature of homosexuality, so NARTH tries to explain it away.

The most interesting study I saw (and I am afraid I don't even remember what media I saw it in, so I can't link), looked at identical twin girls and found that when the twins shared a placenta during development, they shared both handed-ness and sexuality. When they had separate placentae, however, was when certain pairs had different handed-ness or sexuality. Since genes are triggered during fetal development, and it is believed this triggering process is intrinsic to a biological model of homosexuality, it would be hard to have twins that shared a placenta (and therefore had the same level of pre-natal hormones) to have different genes triggered - and this study (small as it was) seemed to support that model.

So what of this review which asserts that
QUOTE
There exists a peculiar phenomenon among identical twins commonly referred to as reversed asymmetry or mirror imaging. If division of the morula occurs between the tenth and thirteenth days of development, the twins are commonly found to be mirror images of each other (1). The twins usually demonstrate this reversed asymmetry in handedness (right or left handed), hair whorl patterns, dentition, palm and fingertip details. While one twin has hair whorls growing clockwise, the other might have counterclockwise hair whorls. In some cases, such twins have birthmarks one the same part of the body, the one on the left and the other on the right (5). This phenomenon holds true not only for identical twins, but all identical multiple births. There can be triplets, quadruplets, even quintuplets who appear to be mirror images of each other, as in the case of the Dionne quintuplets. (These five girls are the only known case of identical quintuplets. Other multiple births can be combinations of monozygotes and dizygotes, the most common being all multiple zygotes fertilized simultaneously) (7). Two of the five identical Dionne girls appeared to be the last to separate from the singular zygote, hence probably between the tenth and thirteenth days, because they, among all of the girls, have the highest presence of reversed asymmetry.
?

I wonder if this can be related to the stereochemistry of the DNA or other chemicals in the environment of the developing pre-born.

Right-handed thrower but left-footed punter here. So when it came time to "take matters into my own hands" I used my left one.

You mean all these guys actually jack off? -- who knew!? eek! biggrin.gif ....for the record, I am right-handed (and, yes, that applies to EVERYTHING). wink

I'm gonna call the USC game and say score two for the lefties in the bowl-winning QB column as Terp Scott McBrien has lead Maryland to a 41-7 win over his old school West Virginia in the Gator bowl while Matt Leinart appears to be on the way to doing the same for USC against Michigan: currently 28-7.

Barry Zito is left handed wink wink

Sorry - a strong right hand here. tongue.gif tongue.gif

I do just about everything with my left hand----except for some odd reason using scissors. It probably has to do with the fact that in school the only lefty scissors were those nasty blunt ones with the green holes that never worked!

I do everything right-handed with only one exception. When I played street hockey as a kid, I played the non-goalie positions left-handed.
LAKERSRDABOMB
I do just about everything "Right-handed" w/ the excepion of Minature golf which I do left-handed! Plus in little league I was a "switch hitter" Who would have guessed? When "Wanking it" I feel like I am cheating if I use my left hand!

Even when he is prepping for a big game in the lockerroom, no doubt. I guess everyone remembers him admitting to releiving some tension before big games. smile.gif
My answers...
right,
right,
both equally.

Read somewhere that the Yankees may have an all right-handed rotation on the mound this year. How common is that? Apparently their record against batters is about the same regardless of which hand they bat with. Has another myth bitten the dust?

Considering changing technology it might have been interesting to know how may people "click right" but I'll assume that writing right almost always means clicking right, though the amount of ambidextrousity so far is surprising me.
addboi
I'm right handed as far as writing and sports stuff, but I kick left-footed.

As far as the other activity listed, I'm a lefty due to the computer... I use the mouse with my right hand, so there was a natural hand free that could be used for the other activity.

Ah... technology... isn't it great? smile.gif
sooners2727
I do everything with my left hand. I'm a lefty all the way except when putting on the golf course, and just putting.
mikeyjake
I use whichever hand is not on the other guy's throbber.

No lefty quarterbacks in the NFL playoffs but I've noticed at least two left-footed kickers (Philly and Carolina) and so far both have brought their team good luck.

I am left hander all the way except for batting and golfing...It would be a good idea to set up a poll to have more of a scientific approach.

Going left in the Superbowl:

Apparently John Kasay's left foot appeals to some holders in football.

From the absolutebrady site under "Lefty of Righty" it says "Both". Details please Mr. Brady. Inquiring minds want to know. I know he's not throwing left so exactly what DOES he do with that left hand when the girlfriend isn't around?

Oh, and I almost forgot about Julius Peppers being a lefty not that it would seem to matter much for a linemen.

Noticed lefty NE punter Ken Walter is still struggling, though not enough to keep the Pats from taking the Superbowl. And he's a great support for Adam

Saw a very sexy photo of the Bryan twins chest-bumping while celebrating a doubles win in the NYTimes today.

Can't find it on the web but left-handed Bob's left hand is in the small of right-handed Mike's back just above the prettiest pair of cheeks you'd ever want to see in a dark pair of tennis shorts.

Great symmetry. wink
