Full Version: Celestial seasonings and other herbal teas

I'm mad keen on Celestial seasonings teas. I drink them every day. My favorites are Mandarin Orange and Sleepy Time. I recently bought some of their teas with somekind of South African bush herb in them. One was vanilla and had a lion on the box. Great with honey. Not so great plain.

You might be referring to Rooibos tea which is very common in South Africa. In Afrikaans it means Red Bush, so is sometimes referred to that way in English. It is said to have cleansing properties, and they use it for skin problems there too (i.e. put a wet tea bag onto a blemish or rash). It has no caffeine and is considered to be a very healthy tea.

I had just taken a big swig of my Mountain Dew when I read this thread topic and almost sprayed my computer with laughter. How funny, read it again out loud...it's about the gayest thing I've ever read on these message boards - and that is saying a LOT! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

More evidence of our language slipping out of our grasp. There are threads on this message board about the best way for a guy to suck a dick, and this is the "gayest" thing here? If we're not careful, yet another word is going to lose its meaning to the voracious youth culture that labels things as either acceptable or not by how it coopts terms. "Gay" is not a word that means less than or undesirable or even effeminate. It's a word that means people, generally men, who like having sex with other people of the same gender.

Or am I overreacting? wink

Roobios is what I was referring too. Thanks.

JQ, I think it's fair to say that the word can be used in both senses, as I've heard it used since at least the '70s.

At the risk of sounding a bit too gay myself, I'll confess to being a big time tea drinker, though not a teatotaler. I've two coffeemakers, one at home and at work, "dedicated" to tea which have never been sullied by the burned bean. I usually brew and drink a pot a day combination of English/Irish Breakfast and raspberry or orange spice herbal, just to keep the caffeine levels down to a reasonable level.

Yea! I had a gay moment! My friends will be thrilled to hear!

I, too, am a tea drinker. In the morning I like a cup (or two or three) of either Irish Breakfast, Scottish Breakfast, Russian Caravan, or Earl Gray. In the afternoons, I tend to switch to mint tea, often Celestial Seasonings.

Russian caravan is great. And don't forget Earl Gray. The bergamont in the Earl Gray tastes smashing. And this is the gayest thread ever? I thought the infamous 'shirtless men in grocery stores' held that honor.

Mma Ramotswe, the protagonist of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series of books (set in Botswana), swears by bush tea. Although I'm not a tea drinker myself, I'm very much wanting to try rooibos just on her say so.

I'm a big tea drinker, but mostly of traditional black (or red) teas, rather than herbal teas. But a lot of those mentioned so far (earl grey, russian caravan) are flavored black teas, not herbal, so I thought I'd chime in.

I'm fond of good quality estate teas from Assam and Nilgiri. Top Darjeeling is better than Nilgiri, but good Nilgiri's provide a similar style at a much lower price. I also like some of the Chinese teas--particularly Keemun and Yunnan. Lap San Sou Chong (with its intense smoky flavor) is nice as a change.

You have a date with a virgin? tongue.gif

Oh, okay, I'll post something about tea. I just read this article about a new cafe that sells specialty teas instead of coffee.

I admit I have become a convert; If I don't get my Irish Breakfast Tea in the morning I am cranky all morning.

I also drink Iced Green Tea by the gallon.

A couple of months ago, I used to drink genmaicha or houjicha, but right now I drink darjeeling or assaam tea throughout the day. Though I usually start out with a cup of joe.
Celestial Seasoning has too many additives for my taste -- just look at the ingredients. A tea should be able to stand on its own merits and not rely on artificial or "natural" flavors. :yuck:

I'm a huge tea fan, mostly of the black variety and mostly iced. I wear out my iced tea maker.
