I don't want to go to all the details....it is too hard for me.
Lets just say...I work for the mouse here in Orlando....I am 36....and I got brought to tears by a friggin 19 yr old girl working under me!
She is a gay basher and admits it...she is new to my company and has been suspended...anyways, she is cuban, from Miami and states that her Mom is in the media in Miami....
The last name of the "media personality" could be Roman......
Do any of you know any info on a media personality from Miami that could be her Mom, or know of a site I could search???
I don't know what I want to do, but I just want to learn all I can about this gay bashing teen, that has shown more HATE for me than anyone has ever shown in my life!
Thanks to all!

That's sad and I'm sorry to hear you're going through that anguish. I hope that Disney decides to make her suspension permanent.

Okay, first off PP, sorry you were upset, but look at it this way. If she's dumb enough to be that rude to people she WORKS FOR, or, even better, if she's dumb enough to gay bash while working for, of all companies, DISNEY, then she ain't worth your tears, your time, or your energy.
However, if you're looking to check out major media outlets, the two major papers in SoFla are the Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel (that's a Ft. Lauderdale paper). The Miami Herald is actually the Herald with a whole lot of other crap about Miami included, so that might be a place to start. Also, the Herald also carries a version called El Nuevo Herald, which is a Spanish-language version of the Miami Herald. A basic Yahoo search will take you to their websites.

If she's new and has already been suspended, then it seems like unless she changes her attitude you won't have to deal with her much longer. She's already on thin ice.
You have to deal with this logically instead of emotionally. First, just because she says her mother is in the media doesn't make it true, and if it is true it doesn't mean her mother is anyone important. She could be a secretary or something for a TV or radio station or newspaper. Or if she's a writer, it could be for some very small local weekly rag that no one really reads but it gets tossed on your doorstep every week anyway.
But even so, why would that make a difference? You are sounding like you want to go on a vendetta against this girl and she clearly isn't worth the time...and you could risk your own job if you do something wrong. (Even posting her last name only doesn't seem like a good idea to me.)
Settle down, take a deep breath, and think about it.

Unfortunately, I can't be of any help when it comes to identifying members of the Miami media but I just wanted to add that I, too, am SO sorry to hear about what you had to go through, PacerPride....it is even more inexcusable coming from a 19 year old -- who hopefully will be a FORMER co-worker very soon.
When it comes to the GLBT community the Disney execs have always impressed me with their level of support, at least from afar anyway (in particular, their insistence upon maintaining "Gay Days" at the Magic Kingdom despite ongoing staunch opposition from a number of vocal, religious groups has long garnered my appreciation and attention

)....however, you obviously know MUCH more about their TRUE level of tolerance and support, especially where employees of "The Mouse" are concerned.
Thanks again for sharing part of your difficult experience with us and I hope that teenage bigot is taught a PERMANENT lesson in the VERY near future!

I am just a blubbering fool for letting it get to me like this......but let me tell you, I will be a blubbering fool tomorrow when I go into work and thank all of those who supported me threw this after I left them all in tears.....
I am just a mess tonight over this....thank you for your time!
I will keep you posted...and I don't know what I will do, if the company keeps her! But I trully believe, after the investigation is over next week, she will be gone.

Thoughts go out to you. Don't know the name, but any company worth it's salt these days does not tolerate any bashing of any kind. If they do, it would open them up to a TON of legal problems. I work for a major national company, and we have to go through MAJOR harrasment and diversity training. We have a ZERO tolerance for any behaviour that would make any employee uncomfortable. Best of luck to you.

Thank you guys...
I am better tonight....
Our compliance team will be interviewing the witnesses next week...the girl got suspended until then....my boss and peers are all very supportive for me. My boss (a big ole straight red neckess guy) actually said, that she will be fired even if he has to go "over" our HR Compliance heads.
So...I feel better...but I am still in shock a little.
I guess I have been real lucky in life and I haven't came across much hate...it has sort of opened my eyes to the reality of the hatred still in our country for gays. Every where I have worked has been very gay friendly and I have never had any issues at work....I think I will definately go to one of our next diversity meeting and get more involved.
Thanks again! XOXO

Lets just say....I am not happy!
I got mis treated by my company, by this girl and nothing was happened by our HR team! She was not termed, but moved to another location...the HR team did NOT talk to me about it......
I have waited...for almost 2 months, but my feelings are the same....
What can I do....I feel discriminated against...CAN I DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
What are your thoughts? Is there anything I can do legally?........I want the public to know that the company I work for is NOT so diverse as it says it is.....because...and it is NOT a lie..it isn't!
ANY ACLU Members out there...that can help me??
Please let me know!
It is 2 months...it has hurt me...and it has affected my job performance and my mental thoughts!
What would you do????

Since you still feel so strongly about this two months after the "incident" occurred and are seeking advice on what courses of action you can/should take, are you able to share with us exactly what happened, pacerpride?....or at least provide us with some general info?

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties.
Actually - if you do end up needing legal assistance for something like this - might I highly recommend contacting Lambda Legal Defense;
I know Florida does not have a law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation; however Lambda does have a Southern Regional office:
SRO Lambda Legal Defense
1447 Peachtree Street, NE, Suite 1004
Atlanta, GA 30309-3027
404-897-1880 phone
Though I have to admit that I am not sure that they can do anything - the offending person was removed from your working conditions, and it certainly seems as if the corporation itself was not descriminatory in their practice toward you.
At very least you should take a look at their website and a publication called "Out At Work".
I do not live in the South anymore, but maybe this will be of assistance.

Pacerpride, I'm sorry that you're still going through this. If you don't mind my own two cents, I'll tell you what I think. Obviously, management must be listening to you at least because she no longer works in your area, which is good. I have to tell you that even in the "tolerant" environment of San Francisco, I've often run into co-workers like this, one of whom thought it was funny constantly to ridicule gays. Instead of shaking in my boots I kindly returned his insults such as all the babes he's supposedly had must have cost him his week's paycheck. Or my personal favorite, he bragged about a big sexual conquest he had and I replied, 'what did you do after you woke up?' I learned long ago that for all the talking and strutting people do, they're not as invicible as they portray themselves to be. By the way, that co-worker got fired a couple of years ago for making long distance calls and charging them to the company. Don't stress yourself over this child. The universe has a way of making people pay for their behavior, you and I know that. It may not be something that you'll know about but what goes around definately has a way of coming around, sometimes in ways people never imagine. Take care of yourself. Remember, we're always here!
