In this troubled time a lot of people don't know how to show support for the troops serving overseas. Reading the recent entry from a fellow Blogger I realized than many people don't know about AER.

This is an incredibly worthwhile organization that directly benefits enlisted soldiers and their families in their times of desperate need. AER is a private nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942 by the Secretary of War and the Army Chief of Staff. AER's sole mission is to help soldiers and their dependents.

AER is the Army's own emergency financial assistance organization and is dedicated to "Helping the Army Take Care of Its Own". AER provides commanders a valuable asset in accomplishing their basic command responsibility for the morale and welfare of soldiers and their families.

AER funds are available to commanders to provide emergency financial assistance to soldiers - active & retired - and their dependents when there is a valid need.

AER funds made available to commanders are not limited and are constrained only by the requirement of valid need.

Help with emergency financial needs for Food, Rent or Utilities, Emergency Transportation and Vehicle Repair, Funeral Expenses, Medical/Dental expenses, Personal needs when pay is delayed or stolen. AER gives undergraduate-level education scholarships, based primarily on financial need, to children of soldiers.

AER provides interest-free loans, grants (an outright gift of funds) if repayment of loan will cause undue hardship, or, part loan and part grant.

All donations to AER are used to support soldiers and their families. Checks should be made payable to Army Emergency Relief or simply the letters AER.

Contributions can be mailed to:

Anyone who has served in the Army will tell you that AER is an incredible godsend when the chips are down. Army enlisted personnel are terribly underpaid; many enlisted families are on food stamps (many more qualify but are too proud to take them).

Not happy with your taxes being spent on something you don’t approve of? Still want to show your support for the troops? Contributions to AER are fully deductible under section 170(cool.gif(1)(a) of the Code. FEIN is 53-0196552.

Thank You
