Full Version: Was Joe Namath drunk on live TV?

Did anyone just see him get interviewed just before halftime by Suzy Kolber. He kept slurring throughout his answers and twice he told Suzy he wanted to kiss her. The first time he said it he moved his head close to Suzy. Weird. If I didn't know any better, I'd say the Jets All-Time Great QB was smashed on live TV. Even Paul McGuire said he thought Joe was a little "too happy".

Cowboys Fan posted: Did y'all see Joe interviewed during the 2nd Quarter of the Pats/Jets game? I was stunned cause I thought he had a stroke or something. But when he kept saying he wanted to kiss what's her name...I thought. Hmmmm Egg Nog. Was he lit up like a Christmas tree?

I missed it...switched the channel. I wonder if Suzy Kolber or the producer or SOMEONE was aware of his condition before they put him on the air?

Yes he was. It was awesome!

Although he was indeed smashed he actually made good analytical comments about Chad Pennington. But it became more obvious when he wouldn't give up his attempted pickup of Suzy Kolber.

Is Broadway Joe married? If so what would his wife be thinking?

Is it me or does Suzy Kolber sound even more masculine than ever at tonight's Steelers/Ravens game? Her tone is so deep. She sounds like a teenage boy bully looking to pick a fight. I guess she's flaunting her male hormones so Joe Namath will not be as attracted to her.

Here's a bit of fun fact regarding "Broadway" Joe:

He had a short fling with Janis Joplin in '69 or '70. She was quite a lady and had some of the best of them. biggrin.gif

I'm pretty sure that wasn't his first time. I remember him as a guest in the booth in the second half of a game a year or two ago on ESPN Sunday Night or ABC Monday Night, and I didn't think he would ever shut up. You could tell he was blitzed during that interview, too, just not to the extent that he was a couple of weeks ago.

Joe's a playa! He was smashed--or taking too much medication--and just couldn't help himself with Suzie Kolber, who is really butch (she's approaching the Mary Carillo standard in that regard). I understand that she was rightly offended by his puerile behavior, but I think he probably figures he can get away with anything these days.

The news is reporting that Namath is now seeking help for his problem with alcohol.

He's being interviewed on Outside The Lines on Sunday morning (with it being repeated on Sunday night's Sportscenter). I guess Suzy Kolber wasn't available for it. wink

Was JIP drinking with Broadway Joe when he made the link? biggrin.gif wink Try this to read ESPN's take.

I just have a feeling that Joe may not be an alcoholic. Rather, with all the bad press he's gotten since this incident, his advisors have him seek help for his "drinking problem". I know sometimes I am a tad too skeptical and cynical wink , but I have a feeling that if Joe didn't happen to appear tipsy on national television, he wouldn't be seeking help and this drinking problem wouldn't be an issue.

I guess my point is that if he indeed does have a problem, I hope he gets the help. But if this is just some overreaction by his lawyers and handlers, shame on them. It was an uncomfortable moment for sure, but didn't ESPN sense he was liquored up before they put him on? And the man is entitled to tie one on once in a while. Hell they were celebrating being named to the All Time Jets team. So long as he isn't gettign behind the wheel. I don't know, good luck to Joe Willy either way!
