My partner and I are coming up on our 9 year anniversary and I don't have a clue as to what I should get him.
Since I have to work (DJ) at the local homo bar that night, I was thinking of making the announcement, playing a nice slow song (we don't slow dance together) and calling it good.
Of course there will also be anniversary sex, but thats a given.
any suggestions?

If you are working the night of your anniversary, you should pass on the slow song and pass on bringing any attention to the matter that night. You should acknowledge the fact with him on that day, but do not embarrass him with a slow song, etc, since you say he is not a dancer. But you must make it up to him on another mutually convenient night by going all out, within your budget, with a dinner and a gift. Missing an important date because of work is only excusable if you are willing to do doubletime for the relationshiop later, after all, you knew the date was coming and you could have arranged another schedule. And you better not be working on your tenth anniversary.
Not knowing either of you I have no suggestions for a gift, but a gift is necessary--not just a song over the speaker system, or a free drink at the bar.

Actually every day should be special, not just an anniversary, birthday or holiday. I can't even tell you what day in March our anniversary is, but it will be 10 years. Will we do anything special??? Maybe, maybe not! The bf is not big into Hallmark moments! wink
But I think for 9 years should at least eat out at a nice restaurant.

First thing, congrats on being together for 9 years! It is always great to hear about gay men in love and commitment. I know it takes a bit of work to maintain a good working relationship. Now on to the gift...You know your man, and you know what he likes. Do what you think would honor him. I recently had a day at a spa. I think of my self as a regular kinda guy, not into the metrosexual things, but I relaxing day at the spa was fantastic. It would be great if you could share it with him.

While on the topic, any ideas for Valentine's Day? I have been dating this really great guy for 8 months now so it is my first Valentine's Day. He is a real home improvement nut and I got him a laser leveler for his birthday. I am strapped for ideas. We are going to Mexico for a week in March so he is trying not to eat candy.
Any ideas?

If you guys like to travel, take a weekend getaway. With your cold weather, maybe you can get away to Vegas or Florida for a couple of nights. I think things like this will insure another 9+ years

How about a computer program that helps in re-designing room, or one that will help you create blueprints for the renovation. There are some out there that you can put everything in, and it will created a materials list, artist rendering, drawings etc.
I love to do home reno's as well, and I would LOVE to have software like that on my home PC.
Beats the hell out of having to remove drywall to see where everything is.

I think you should dump the gifts and give a nice card.... but since you probably all purchased the gifts already.... they can be send directly to PHX for my inspection. Should i approve, you can buy the same thing next year.
See how easy this gift thing is?
