I have been a fan of Koko's ever since I was a little kid and he adopted a kitten that later was killed and he expressed his grief in sign language. Now comes this and this is bizarre!

One thing to keep in mind is that numerous female gorillas in captivity never learned how to suckle their young (in the wild they learn by watching other, older gorillas) so zoos would often look to local La Leche leagues to volunteer to breastfeed their own babies in front of expectant gorillas to model the behavior. I wonder if something similar was going on in this case.
