Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, John Madden, Rayfield Wright, Harry Carson and, unfortunately, Reggie White have all been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Finalists who failed to get in: LC Greenwood, Claude Humphrey, Russ Grimm, Michael Irvin, Bob Kuchenberg, Art Monk, Derrick Thomas, Thurman Thomas and Gary Zimmerman.

I know people on here believe in separating their sports from their politics but seeing Reggie White honored just makes me want to throw up
the man was hate personified-what he did off the field negated anything he did on it
From ESPN.com: "Every city embraced Reggie as a player and as a person," Sara White said of her husband, the NFL's all-time sacks leader when he retired in 2000, four years before he died.
"The wonderful thing I can say about my husband is there can't be anything negative said about him. Nothing," he said. "I wish he was here, that is the only regret I have. But you know what, he is here. He is."
Nothing negative can be said about him?

Art Monk didn't get elected? What is wrong with the voters? I don't understand how quiet and totally professional, and, oh yeah, one of the best and most consistent receivers in NFL history, didn't get elected. The only balance is that the ultimate pusher Irvin didn't get elected either.

Alex, Oblivious Widows for $200 please.
As much as I despised Reggie White, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

I'm missing something here. Why is there all this hate for Reggie White?

I'm serious. I don't get it. Why is Reggie White hated on this board? Refresh my memory.

Based upon his play on the field, Reggie White deserved to be elected. Shit Head as a person, but a great player.
We did have a winner in the voting. For Michael Irvin not to get in is a victory for everyone outside of the Dallas metroplex. There's no way he should get in before Art Monk
Derrick Thomas got shafted again (by the Carson loyalists - They wouldn't vote for any other linebacker until Carson got in). Derrick will be in next year.

Why is Reggie White getting ripped by everyone?? Wasn't he known as a soft-spoken good-hearted man off the field? I must have missed something. Can someone refresh my memory of what this man did that was so bad?

Reggie White was an extreme homophobe. Haven't you kept up with the news reports over the years?

Honestly I don't remember this label on Reggie White. Was this label given to him during his playing days or when he retired? The only off-the-field stuff I recall of Reggie White was his involvement with the black church fires.

Here's a list of some of Reggie White's anti-gay comments:
"Let me explain something when I'm talking about sin, and I'm talking about all sin. One of the biggest ones that has been talked about that has really become a debate in America is homosexuality."
"I've often had people ask me, would you allow a homosexual to be your friend. Yes, I will. And the reason I will is because I know that that person has problems, and if I can minister to those problems, I will."
"But the Bible strictly speaks against it, and because the Bible speaks against it, we allow rampant sin including homosexuality and lying, and to me lying is just as bad as homosexuality, we've allowed this sin to run rampant in our nation, and because it has run rampant in our nation, our nation is in the condition it is today."
“I'm offended that homosexuals will say that homosexuals deserve rights.”
“Homosexuality is a decision, it's not a race. People from all different ethnic backgrounds live in this lifestyle. But people from all different ethnic backgrounds also are liars and cheaters and malicious and back-stabbing."

Oooooooookay. That would qualify Reggie White as a hater. Why is he not on the anti-gay slur list with the John Rocker scale. Is there an alumni list somewhere else that Reggie White should go on? I think he would deserve the full amount of Rockers for those comments.

Reggie White is in.....as he should be without question. I can still feel the knife wound in the back that he gave me many times over though.
I'm surprised Warren Moon got in so quickly though. And Thurman Thomas didn't???
The King forgot this classic:
"As America has permitted homosexuality to establish itself as an alternate lifestyle, it is also reeling from the frightening spread of sexually transmitted disease. Sin begets its own consequence, both on individuals and nations."
Reggie ain't just anti-gay, he's pretty stupid too:
"When you look at the black race, black people are very gifted in what we call worship and celebration. A lot of us like to dance, and if you go to black churches, you see people jumping up and down, because they really get into it.
White people were blessed with the gift of structure and organization. You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature and you know how to tap into money pretty much better than a lot of people do around the world.
Hispanics are gifted in family structure. You can see a Hispanic person and they can put 20 or 30 people in one home. They were gifted in the family structure.
When you look at the Asians, the Asian is very gifted in creation, creativity and inventions. If you go to Japan or any Asian country, they can turn a television into a watch. They're very creative. And you look at the Indians, they have been very gifted in the spirituality."

And the funniest thing about that speech that was just written is that it was given in the Wisconsin State legislature. While he was giving it, the camera turned toward the legislators sitting there listening to Reggie's ramblings, and they all had that same "Oh my God, I can't believe he's saying this" look on their faces. Was classic.

And again, I'll repeat what Reggie's obviously oblivious wife said: "The wonderful thing I can say about my husband is there can't be anything negative said about him. Nothing," he said. "I wish he was here, that is the only regret I have. But you know what, he is here. He is."
Um yeah okay honey, stick with that story.

He also said about Native Americans that they were good at sneaking up on people.
And that legal abortion was worse than the Nazi holocaust, a sentiment at least one person here agrees with, but always makes me, a Jewish woman, foam at the mouth with rage.
And that women should not have careers and that what was wrong with families was that too many women were trying to be leaders when men were divinely appointed to be head of the family. That women should not be sportswriters because "no man should be seen naked by any woman other than his wife" (which also lets out female doctors); apparently putting on a robe is too much trouble?
Good grief, is there anyone whom he did NOT piss off?

Oh Darn, I missed the Reggie White haters. Looks like ya’all are still holding onto that hate you always accused him of. Reggie moved on with his life after football, and so should you. I applaud him for standing up against abortion, even if I don’t share the same views. I applaud him for never beating his wife.
This man gave as much back to the community as he took. He took an active role within the inner city to hopefully encourage others to make a better life for themselves.
On the field he was loved by the fans, players and coaches. Plus he was THE best DL to play the game.
It was nothing but an honor to watch this man wear the Iggle uniform when I was growing up and see him be part of what was one of the best defensive units to every play together.

Reggie was basically Scum of the Earth who was gifted at sacking the QB, it's too bad some people only have a selected memory. Just because you choose to ignore his words doesn't mean they didn't occur.

White said the United States has gotten away from God, in part by allowing homosexuality to "run rampant."
HOMOSEXUALITY IS a sin, and the plight of gays and lesbians should not be compared to that of blacks, White told lawmakers.
"Homosexuality is a decision, it's not a race," White said. "People from all different ethnic backgrounds live in this lifestyle. But people from all different ethnic backgrounds also are liars and cheaters and malicious and back-stabbing."
White said he has thought about why God created different races. Each race has certain gifts, he said.
Blacks are gifted at worship and celebration, White said.
"If you go to a black church, you see people jumping up and down because they really get into it," he said.
Whites are good at organization, White said.
"You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature, and you know how to tap into money," he said.
"Hispanics were gifted in family structure, and you can see a Hispanic person, and they can put 20, 30 people in one home."
THE JAPANESE AND other Asians are inventive, and "can turn a television into a watch," White said. Indians are gifted in spirituality, he said.
"When you put all of that together, guess what it makes: It forms a complete image of God," White said.
