I guess nothing amazes me anymore with MLB. The NY Daily News says they're actually considering having the Expos play at Fenway Park for a year!

I want a team closeby, but for God's sake, just send them somewhere and leave them there. Here, there, anywhere.

This is just...dumb. Why would fans in Boston go to see a bunch of transients? I guess they can't do much worse than they did in Montreal--200 season tickets? Yikes--but it just shows you how desperate MLB is to get out of Montreal. Why not have them play in Toronto? It's that old Canadian dollar being weak thing again, I guess.

The rest of the page has a bit about Barry Bonds tying Hank Bauer's record for homers in 3 straight games. Of course, Bauer scoffs that Bonds is nowhere close to his record of hitting safely in 17 straight WS games. But here's my favorite bit: [quote]As for how he feels about sharing a record with Bonds, Bauer replied: "He's awfully big, isn't he? He hits 'em a lot further than I did, but I could out-run him and out-throw him."

So was he planning to watch last night to see if Bonds broke the record? "He better do it early," Bauer said. "I go to bed at 9 o'clock."
See, even with the early Best Coast starting time, Hank isn't going to hang around for a marathon 4-hour game, is he? And I love his "I could out-run him and out-throw him". Hee!

Here's Hank hugging some crap player who couldn't hit or field for beans OR keep Marilyn happy. That Hank was pretty hot.

Rob Neyer thinks it's a great idea: Expos would draw better, Bosox would get extra revenue from rent, and Sox fans would be able to buy cheaper tix for Expo games.

Assuming the groundskeepers were up to it, why not?

I would definitely go, but I also go to Pawtucket AAA games (McCoy is a great stadium!) occasionally and can even get excited by the Lowell Spinners and the Cape League.
The novelty would bring the fans out. Would the tickets really be cheaper? That would turn the Expos into our B team. But if they aren't cheaper, given that the prices for the Red Sox are already absurd and going up next year, then I'd be against it.

Now it appears that there's discussion to have the Expos play 20 games in Puerto Rico. So that would mean 61 games in Fenway. This will be MLB's first step in making their game international blah blah blah same stuff they've been saying for 20 years.

This is taking on a tragi-comic air; the team that noone wants.

Larry Lucchino laughed at the idea of the Expos sharing Fenway with the Red Sox. Which probably means it's under active discussion...
