The commish, Paul Tagliabue, floated this idea as a way to have better matchups late in the season without having to switch games from Sunday to Monday night at the last minute (which would cause a lot of headaches). The idea is that the lesser of the two games would be shown regionally.

What if there is no lesser game or what if they are both lesser?

If both games are great matchups, they'll be happy to have that problem. If both games are dogs, at least they'll have four teams involved instead of just two. It'll help the ratings slightly, if only in those 4 markets.

this could all be solved if whoever does well in 2003 is EXCLUDED from monday night football in 2004. Since we know all the playoff teams this year will vanish if history repeats. TB, Pitt, Jets, Raiders, Packers, 49ers etc.
