race card regarding his performance.

It's a sign of progress that two such very public black figures can be mutually critical in public. It is disappointing that the disagreement is over an athlete's ability rather than something like the serious corruption in Philadelphia politics (mirroring many municipalities large and small across the country BTW).
Still it is shallow to criticize only what you can see on the field. Why's Reid not questioned?

Between all the shit Donovan has had to deal with from TO, Rush "Oxy" Limbaugh and now this ass, McNabb is quickly becoming one of my favorite athletes.
Why doesn't this loser criticize TO for his "stereotypical" behavior?

Gawd,
I have a word, and it's Jackass. This same jackass called rush a racist for saying basically the same thing. Demanded he lose his job etc.
I'd think he'd be better served spending a little more time encouraging "the folks who act like black folks" in North Philly to go to school, get an education, have a strong family, not break the law, and an all around model citizen that Dmac is.
Dmac did not rush as much last year because he had Westy, TO, Pinky, and LJ to pass too.
But then again he did scramble around pretty good in that MNF game against Dallas.... a real black man would have ran that ball for fiddy yards rather than throwing it...
Jackass.

I have always thought McNabb was not very good, mediocre at best. Does that make me a racist?

Actually in this case, it's the NAACP.

What's really bizarre -- besides the fact that this NAACP guy Mondesire is nothing but a local jackass who wants attention because he's out of the loop of power right now (and is said to be planning a run for Congress in 2006 against the current congressman who plans to run for mayor in 2007) and the fact that he knows nothing about football -- is that this story took over a WEEK to break nationally! His "column" appeared on December 4th -- in a newspaper that HE publishes; McNabb's replies came this past weekend; and it still took a couple of days after that for the national media to jump on it.
A fine column in response appeared last week...

It's fascinating that this has spiraled way beyond the confines of a football debate. And don't tell me it hasn't, when terms such as sellout, token, company man, Uncle Tom and other racially charged ones have been thrown into the debate.
What this black-on-black verbal violence has caused me to wonder is: Who gets to determine who is truly African-American and what is or isn't a part of African-American culture?
Is McNabb only sort of black because his parents, Sam and Wilma, stayed together and raised him to act like an adult when confronted with something such as Owens' repeated criticism?
When did handling a difficult situation with class and dignity become a negative in the black community?
Is Owens a full-fledged brother now because he stood up to the man while minstrel-acting his way out of millions of dollars?
Does T.O. lose some of his street credibility because he dropped his \"hard-ass brotha\" act and basically begged \"Massa\" to take him back as soon as he realized he really was getting kicked out of the house and off the plantation?
So what is the criteria for being black?
National NAACP head rips Mondesire QUOTE
Bruce Gordon, who heads the Baltimore-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, issued a statement calling McNabb \"a great quarterback, an excellent role model and a class act\" and said he intended to apologize for denigrating remarks made by Philadelphia chapter president J. Whyatt Mondesire.
\"The NAACP has many civil rights issues that require our attention,\" Gordon said. \"Criticizing Donovan McNabb is not one of them.\"

This is the strangest story. Could you imagine if a white journalist said the same thing. "Hey Donovan McNabb you're black, so you should be running more".
And then that Air Force head coach had to publicly apologize for saying his school needs to recruit more blacks because they're better athletes.
This is a weird country.
