So he has at least four kids, then? At the time he retired it was reported that he had three. What a mess he's created for himself.

Ricky Williams has resurfaced as a student at
a Northern California school for holistic medicine studying "the ancient Indian medical system known as Ayurveda"....do you suppose Ricky found out about this school after its location in GRASS VALLEY, California came up on a web search he was googling?

On the same day we learn of his interest in hlistic medicine, we hear he's going to be reinstated by the Dolphins after he accepts--and serves--a four-game suspension. I go back to one of my original questions: how can the NFL welcome him back when he proudly admitted to twice cheating on league drug tests & why would the Dolphins players, whom he left in the lurch with his sudden retirement, welcome him back to their team?

I don't think the Fins will welcome him back...me thinks they will trade him for draft picks--not that they will rec'v any good picks from him...unless there's a team out there that is "this close" to getting to the next level and he will be the one to put them there...

They can't trade him this year. The trade deadline passed. So if he's being reinstated to play this year he's playing for the Dolphins. But even if they want to deal him I think only a desperate team would take a chance on him at any rate. And such a team would have to be really desperate to offer much in return.

They may not be able to get as much for him as they would have before all this crap but there will be alot of teams who'd be willing to take a chance on Williams. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Dolphins were willing to take him back. As bad as this season has been, many of his irate teammates might be quite forgiving next season if Williams can help them win.

If Williams does return before December he will serve a 4 game suspension this year otherwise the suspension would start next season with whatever team he is with.
The Dolphins would most likely trade him before the new season would begin. I don't think the Miami players or organization want him around and would probably take any decent offer that comes along.

You guys are crazy! Despite la williams crazy behavior, any team should be willing to pick him up. He's a rare talent.

According to what I read this morning the proposed deal is that he'd be moved from the retired list to the suspended list for the last 4 games of the season. So he wouldn't play this year.
But any team that might want him would have to tread very carefully and make sure they don't overcompensate the Dolphins. He is damaged goods in that he can't be considered reliable now. He might flake out and leave again at any time. Given his statements and previous record regarding pot, he could easily fail another drug test. Or perhaps he'll find some new way to entertain us. wink

Billsf - very true. The guy is still a premier back. He certainly listens to the beat of a different drummer but that doesn't detract from his talent running the ball.

In case anyone is still interested, Ricky will be interviewed on 60 Minutes tonight. CBS was promoting this very heavily during yesterday's game. Also much of the interview will be shown on today's CBS NFL pregame show.

This was a really interesting and insightful interview with Mike Wallace. Yes the man is an intensely gifted athelete, but he kind of came across to me as a very selfish, rambling dumb as a box of rocks kind of a guy. Wallace asks him point blank, " would you pass an NFL drug test if you took one"? Answer : "no." Then MIke asked him about his marijuana use and he asked him " do you do anything more dangerous than marijuana,"? Answer: " what do you mean by more dangerous than marijuana."? Draw your own conclusions....

I thought it was a great interview. I thought he came across very well. I think hes a good guy that made a decision thats right for him. Good Luck Ricky!!

Well, Mike replied by saying anything that was addictive and harmful to your health. Ricky then said he ate sweets and drank wine. He sounds like someone who enjoys being different and isn't afraid to be a non-conformist. I didn't get the sense that he's doing any drugs other than marijuana.
I thought the most interesting part was part of his rationale for leaving the NFL. He said he tested positive for marijuana for the 3rd time, and the test results would be made public along with his suspension. He was terrified of the prospect of the test results being made public, so that was one of the reasons he quit. How ironic that his quitting led to more publicity about his marijuana use than any positive drug results ever could.

The joke of the NFL is talking about coming back. What a loser! There are many players more talented than he is.

I guess he means those who agree that it's okay to thumb your nose at the drug-use rules in the NFL and get away with it. I bet if this loser comes back, he'll bargain with the NFL that his time away should be qualified as suspension time. The only reason the jerk is trying to come back is so he doesn't have to pay the Dolphins the millions he owes them. Then, there is the issue of the kid he finally admitted is his after his ex sued him for child support. How honorable is this guy? Not at all.

1. He hasn't "thumbed his nose at the NFL and gotten away with it". He wanted time away from the game to do whatever, so he did it.
2. You don't know why he's coming back.
3. Just because somebody does a little pot does not make them a bad person. He's done plenty to help those less fortunate.
4. He's an amazing player. I'm not quite sure what makes him the joke of the NFL. I thought Frerotte had that locked up.
Why shouldn't he be allowed back in the NFL?

Was it an ex, or just some woman who said he was the father? Big difference there.
Why shouldn't he be allowed to return?

Stinger is right-it wasn't an ex-wife but rather a fling. Certainly he should be paying child support, but of course I'd fight it too. Just because a woman claims you are the father doesn't mean you just fork over your money. He had the paternity test, he's the father and since we've heard nothing about him not paying we should assume he is.
As for him coming back, maybe part of the reason he wants to come back is to make a better life for this child. And if he does, he will have to serve his looming 4 game suspension and possibly pay a fine. Once he's done his penance let him come back. Lots of teams could use a back of his quality.

Exactly George. If he wants to come back, let him serve his penance, and move on. If I were his teammates I'd have a hard time letting the grudge go, but they had put a lot of pressure on him those first 2 seasons. He was their only offense and they wouldn't surround him with anybody. If I had to take that beating every Sunday I'd start to reflect on my life too, and what impact continuing on that pace would have. He was only 26/27 at the time. He turns 28 tomorrow.
Happy Birthday Ricky!! Hopefully we get to watch you run again!!

1. How has he thumbed his nose at the NFL Drug Rules? Where is your evidence that he will skirt what's coming him? Right, you have no evidence.
2. An NFL player who has a child out of wedlock? Shocking. Who has heard of such an abomination? I'm sure it has never happened before.

Get a grip Boobster, every team in the NFL likely has a handful of players who have done the exact same thing. Where's your fervent fire of the day putting your energy towards going after those players? Or is it just Williams? Or are you all tuckered out after whining about eHarmony.com?
Get back to reality... I mean the Reality Show threads. You're out of place in a sports thread. Wasn't The Apprentice finale this week? Or can't you piss and moan about American Idol or God knows what other 20 reality shows that you Tivo?

Or shouldn't you be waiting in line to see Star Wars with all the other people who can't get a date unless they pull out their Visa card?

Can we stop with the personal comments, please? This isn't the P&R threads.
Considering the whole history of his retirement -- the timefrrame of WHEN he retired and virtually destroyed his team's chances of being competitive, his continuous dancing with the idea of returning, the whole pot issue (not just an occasional joint but apparently more of a way of life) -- I think Ricky is something of a joke. But he's still a talented player and certainly should come back if that's what he really wants, and if the Dolphins or some other team wants him.

His teammates are ultimately the ones that grant him acceptance. If they don't want him back, it doesn't matter what Ricky wants.

In one of the interviews he gave during his time away from the game, he spoke openly of how he got around the NFL drug testing. If he comes back, is all that merely forgotten or will the league have to intensify its drug testing?

As he wends his way from the west coast to Miami, here's something for Ricky Williams to contemplate: he will now be subject to 10 random drug tests.... a month Yowza!! My advice would be to remove his bladder & just give it to the NFL.

If he needs it, there's a Whizzinator up in the Twin Cities area that won't be getting much use during the upcoming season.
