A 12-year contract possibly worth $115 million, with a $20.5 million signing bonus, $13.5 million paid right up front? The mind boggles...

Well, there goes the salary structure in the NFL. If this goes through, all hell will break loose.

It's not that huge a leap from the previous high contract (Drew Bledsoe). And remember, none of it's guaranteed outside of the signing bonus.
[quote] The Eagles can void the new contract at any time. McNabb can opt out of the final three seasons by reaching certain performance incentives.
And with the salary cap the NFL has, it's not like every other team can just up the ante and sign players. They have to make it work under the cap.

It really is in line with Bledsoe's contract as it averages to around 10 mil per season. It made sense for the Eagles to do this now before McNabb's contract got closer to expiration where he might command even more. Also because the Eagles were under the salary cap this year, they had additional money to spend on the upfront signing bonus.

Thanks for the info, PR. The NFL salary cap is only slightly less confusing than quantum physics.
So, it's a good deal for the Iggles then. But, of course, overall, it has to raise the bar for QB's salaries.
