I know it's only two weeks into the season ... it's a little premature to talk about who can have a perfect season ... but after only two games, one NFL team looks to me like they've got a legitimate shot at perfection. Not the 2-0 Patriots, the best team in the NFL right now. Not the 2-0 Denver Broncos, who probably now wish it was them and not the Seahawks who were playing the NFC West. Nope. It's:
THE DETROIT LIONS
0-2 after impressive, lop-sided losses against an offense-free Miami Dolphins (21-49) and the talent-free Carolina Panthers (7-31). They are clearly, far and away, the worst team in the NFL. If they were a college program, they might not even be Top 25.
Led by the most addled "brain trust" in the NFL, with both team president Matt Millen and coach Marty Mornhinweg both incompetent and clearly overwhelmed. In Mornhinweg's defense, he's perfectly capable as an assistant. Millen's not even fit to be the team's broadcaster. Mornhinweg, however, will be the first to be shown the door. Lucky Marty.
Except for the tough task of losing twice to the Minnesota Vikings, the schedule makes an historic 0-16 feasible. The toughest/easiest games are on the road (Arizona, Buffalo, Atlanta). The home schedule is against better teams. The Lions could do it.
Biggest obstacle remaining: Week 17. Home game against the Vikings, who will surely have packed it in for the year by them. I seeing nothing standing between the Lions and 0-15 heading into their toughest test standing between them and perfection.

The Lions are truly a sad team. A blow-out loss to Carolina? Come on. They have been such a pathetic team over the last few years. Questionable ownership & front office moves have doomed this franchise . The ONLY reason I started following them is because of Joey Harrington. He got some playing time in yesterday's blow-out loss but I have a feeling he'll be the starting Quarterback soon. The only other team that looks just as bad this year are the Seattle Seahags.

What made anyone think that Matt Millen was qualified to be a general manager?

I dunno -- the inaugural regular season game at Ford Field is next Sunday vs. the Pack.
The way the GB defense stunk up the Superdome yesterday, I think the Lions could win. They always play the Pack tough at home anyway (like last Thanksgiving).

It'll be a miracle if the game is close. I can see 0-16 happening to the Lions. If they couldn't beat Carolina (with Rodney bleepin' Peete, who's like 97 years old, at QB) who can they beat?
A possible answer: the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens show no sign of being able to score. Alas, the two teams don't meet this year.
