A five-year deal worth $27.01 million--including a $6 million signing bonus. The base salaries are $665,000 (for 2003), $3.345 million (2004), $5 million (2005), $5 million (2006) and $6 million (2007). There are roster bonuses of $500,000 each in 2006-2007. Seems to me that the Eagles could have signed him for this if they wanted. They've got tons of cap room this year, and if they dropped him after a year or two they might survive the cap hit.

That's a tough hit for the birds.
Did that just basically double the work load for the remainder of the eagle defense?

Remember this is the Eagles management your talking about, they don't like to sign anyone over 30 to a long term contract. I guess even Jerry Rice would have never had a chance here even if he was 30.

I said goodbye to Hugh by pouring out some of my beer for the hommie and a shot to say goodbye, goodluck and farewell.
If they let dawk walk just because he is 30 after this season, i think there will be a riot down broad instead of that parade they were looking for....
Darwin Walker to play some DE on 1st and 2nd down? Hollis should be back this year. Bring in ND on 3rd down pass rush situation? Will Burgess be ready to play this year? Dunno...
Here is the think i dont get, if they go after the restricted FA of the packers (DE), they have to give up a first rounders... well, isnt it cheaper to keep hugh?
If you havent been locked up with a long term deal when you are young by the iggles, they aint keepin ya after 30... nutz.

wow, the eagles defense is already crumbling even before PRESEASON starts. By joining the Jags, Hugh will wake up next season and realize what it's like playing with lesser quality players.. . and getting much less recognition.

I wish hugh all the best in FL....
Iggles will sign KGB now to replace him...
The secondary is still in place, and there is a replacement for Barber... no need to have many worries other than a better MLB and gettin Dawk locked into a new deal.

Actually, I heard on the radio this morning that KGB (Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila) wants something like a $14 million signing bonus (similar to what Coles got from Washington) and the Eagles are more interested in something in the $7 mil range.
And here's something important: according to today's paper Gbaja-Biamila, in Nigerian, translates to "big man come and save me." Which can work in so many ways....

No way the give him that big of a signing bonus... no way... I've heard good things about KGB, but he's not worth that money... then again they are backed in a corner right now...
