Why isn't there a Sunday night game scheduled this week?

Because of Game 2 of the World Series. I thought ESPN's contract with MLB prohibits them from broadcasting NFL games in direct competition with the Series. Curious though because there is a game scheduled for next Sunday night. If the WS goes 7, the final game will be next Sunday.

Probably because a 7th game is always tentative until the two teams are tied at 3-3 in the series, they schedule a Sunday night game. If there were no 7th WS game AND no Sunday night football, the NFL would be unhappy.

Usually though they have a Thursday night game to supplement the lack of a Sunday night game. That isn't true this year either, so the fans get gipped out of a nationally televised game.

But they had the season opener on a Thursday night on ESPN, so that makes up for it.

There are usually several Thursday night games throughout the season but there aren't any this year. I think it may have something to do with the fact that the NBA will be on ESPN/ABC this year.
