Not that I wanted to see Griese get hurt, but I've been hoping that Simms would get his opportunity. He's got it. Look at the tape of the Fins game. Simms was very effective, AND mobile.
The Bucs were winning many games in spite of Griese. It's now or never for the kid, I like his chances - alot. wink

Yeah, but it was Miami. Time will tell if and when he faces better competition.
Meanwhile...an Eagle has had surgery for a hernia. No, it wasn't McNabb.

To add injury to injury, Jerome McDougle's ill-fated second season has all but come to a probable end.
The Eagles announced today that the defensive end underwent emergency surgery this afternoon to correct an internal hernia caused by adhesions and scar tissue from a previous surgery following his gunshot wound in late July.

The problem with this statement is not looking at the WHOLE picture. With Griese out, Simms starts and Luke McCown is the backup... THE ONLY BACKUP! The Bucs have to be scouring free agents, but obviously are trying not to look too desperate. Simms could just as quickly get hurt, then what? Simms might come in and do well, but I am not sure I can see "hoping" a backup QB at this stage(5-1 record) is anything I could wish for.
Meanwhile, I dedicate this week to Married Lady! Lets look at all the games. What sleepers! I only see 3 games that remotely look interesting!
KC @ MIA- could WILMA(I'm home!) turn and affect this game? Either way, I see both teams running the ball alot. Mud bowl anyone?
PIT @ CIN- Will big Ben and Ward be back this week? Tight game.
SD @ PHI- I recall last year PF's numbers were good favoring Philly after a bye week???

I never said I was "hoping Griese would get hurt and Simms would get an opportunity". Simply stated, I had hope that Simms would have an opportunity. Well he's got it now. Not that I was ever in love with Griese, he's certainly favored over a "Dilfer". The running game will be back with Cadillac's return. Griese had already thrown 7 INT's (in 5.5 games),He is ranked 20th in passer rating. Simms will make a few mistakes but will also make a few plays that Griese could not. It's not like the days of Dilfer with Casey Weldon as backup.

You would be correct there Ken-Boy the man is 6-0 out of a bye.
However, make NO mistake if Reid does not change his game plans, that will be sure to end. Throwing the ball 75% of the time is not going to get it done. Heck, a small running game might even take some of the pressure of Dmac and the injuries… go figure.
A west coast team, on their 3rd road game in 4 weeks, 2nd back east. Reid has no excuse not to have his team prepared.

I wasn't expecting 3 teams to just hand the game over to the Bucs.
See Vikings game w/ 5 TOs that still almost pulled it out in the end.
See Packers game w/ 4 TOs that still almost pulled it out in the end.
See Lions game where the refs took away a TD.
But get that #6 seed for the playoffs and come back to Minnesota. I ain't scared of that match-up!!

Looking at the matchups this week, I don't recall this many projected tight games in a long time. And as I look at the odds makers picks, I'm inclined to disagree with at least 5 of them at this point. With the Pick 'em I usually place my picks early figuring that my first instincts are the best - this week I hardly have any instincts eek!

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (3-3) AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (3-2)
Storyline: Watch out, San Diego. Philly comes off a bye!
And add to that the Eagles' estimable record after a loss (33-10 to Dallas in Week 5), and the Chargers indeed may have hold of an angry eagle.
Philadelphia enters the game with a flawless record the week after a bye under coach Andy Reid (6-0 since 1999). And since 2000, Philly has compiled a 17-3 (.850) record in games after a loss, the best such mark in the league in that time.
NFL FACTOID
THREE-WAY TOMLINSON: Only 11 times before in the 86-year history of the NFL has a player accomplished in a game what San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson did last Sunday -- run for, catch and throw a touchdown. Since the Super Bowl era (1966), four players performed the feat before Tomlinson: Dan Reeves (1967), Harmon Wages (1969), Walter Payton (1979) and David Patten (2001).
So the Chargers should be wary. On top of the post-bye, post-loss juggernaut, they confront the NFL's No. 1 passing game (307.2 yards) led by QB Donovan McNabb and WR Terrell Owens.
Of course, the Eagles are wise to be just as wary. For one main reason: LaDainian Tomlinson. The fleet RB was a whirlwind last Sunday, rushing 31 times for 140 yards and catching two passes for 39. He can break his tie (18) with Lenny Moore (1963-65) of most consecutive games with a TD.
"L.T. is fast," says new Eagles LB Zeke Moreno, formerly of the Chargers. "It takes 11 players to stop him. If 11 players are on the same page, then it's cool. But it's going to be very hard."

I would have loved to have seen that play, but CBS here in NY had to leave that game due to contractual obligations to get to the start of the Giants-Broncos game. Or I should say, they had to air 5 minutes of commercials, 5 minutes of announcer preamble and a couple more commercials. f**k the NFL, at least here in NY.

Sometimes I think Andy Reid may be the luckiest coach in the NFL. Today is one of those days. It would have been inexcusable to lose the game after the defense absolutely destroyed Tomlinson, utterly, completely shut him down cold after all the TV morons could talk about was how they'd never be able to stop him from getting lots of yards and breaking the TD record. Yet, after an offensive performance that was disgusting, pathetic, inept, pitiful, putrid, a total waste, you name it, they won anyway. Memo to Reid: Your. Offensive. System.

We got the Philly-SD game in NY. It was unwatchable - a total mess - more flags than a UN meeting. The game ran very long because of the flags, which meant that halfway through the fourth quarter we were swsitched to the Giants-Broncos game. That was a good game, although the Giants once again showed a disturbing propensity for self-destruction. They pulled it together in the fourth quarter, though, and scored two TDs to come back and beat the Broncos in what turned out to be a pretty good game.
