The 2003 season has started! Yesterday the Alouettes were playing the Stampeders. At the half Montreal was trailing and not playing near like Grey Cup champions.

This being the CFL anything can happen. So you go to bed and the next morning you learn the Als made a comeback and won in overtime!

I heard the Stampeders have an honorary captain for their home games. On July 1st, it will be Jeff Garcia.

A friend offered me tickets to that game against Montreal last night, but I couldn't make it. Perhaps it's just as well, since my Stampeders blew a big half-time lead, and then instead of kicking a field goal in the OT period which would have tied the game again, they took a chance on a TD pass and failed. Overtime losses no longer result in a point in the standings (new rule this year).

I think Jeff Garcia will get a warm welcome at the July 1 game. He emerged from the shadow of Doug Flutie, and led the Stamps to a Grey Cup victory in '98 before heading to San Francisco.

BTW Zeno, don't expect many posts or replies about the CFL. My experience has shown that our league up here holds little appeal to our American Outsports friends wink

They gave points for OT losses? Just like the NHL? What is it about rewarding teams for losing--is this a Canadian thing??? biggrin.gif tongue.gif And why a point system anyway? Are there lots of ties in the CFL where they would want to use a point system? (Does it work like the NHL--two points for a win, one for a tie?)

It eliminates the need to do division. biggrin.gif

And I like the CFL. As crappy as some of the programming is on ESPN, they really could have a CFL Game of the Week.

I've seen 20 year old World Strongest Man competitions. I've seen log rolling competitions on ESPN. rolleyes.gif Yesterday, they were showing the home run competition at the 1995 All Star Game. 1995!!!

Right now, there's women's bowling on ESPN2.

It's 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie.

I don't know why we reward losing team. Maybe we feel bad for the losers, they should at least get something!

I wasn't aware of the rule change Marc mentioned. We've become more cut-throat, must be the American influence. biggrin.gif

If there is not much interest in the CFL on Outsports, you can always talk to yourself. eek!
