At the recent NFL owners meetings, the push for a a team in Los Angeles seems to be in full gear. With expansion not an real option, relocation would be the only way. Leading candidates at this time seem to be the Chargers and the Cardinals. The Vikings and Saints have also been rumored as potential relocators in the past.

NFL in L.A.

I think it's either going to be a toss up between the Chargers or Vikings if Los Angeles ever gets a team back. Both teams want a new stadium, and are in bad need of one, while both of the teams don't have support from the community to get one. It'd be a lot easier if the Chargers went to L.A., so that the NFC North doesn't have a team located in L.A. But then again, that would kind of be like Dallas in the NFC East, when they're about the furthest thing from East.

Another aspectto keep in mind is the complete control of the team Dean Spanos now has. IMHO his father Alex (originally from Stockton in the SJV) had more loyalty to his adopted city. Dean S. essentially lives in Las Vegas most of the time (I understand his wife doen't care for SD that much)...

An LA location would be, if anything, even more conveinent for those quick trips from CA to NV.....

The Oakland Raiders keep coming up as a potential transfer to LA. They've been there before!

For those of you not in LA, please note that the existence if this topic has gone unnoticed in LA...big surprise!
It has become painfully obvious over the last decade that LA leadership (even after torch was passed from Riordan to Hahn) is not interested in contributing public monies to the cause of bringing the NFL back to LA...which is why LA still doesn't have a team.
The NFL is nearly identical to MLB in its stance of "give us all yer money, or we'll start killing hostages." This stance has worked on all the gomer-cum-metropolitan areas that feel an NFL team justifies their place alongside cities like NYC, Boston, Chicago, etc. Pro sports have exploited this sense of insecurity to great advantage.
But it won't work on LA. People here are not going to vote to spend taxes on another pro team. And that pisses off the NFL worse than anything!
The NFL will keep pointing to the stadium controversy (I think there are 4 or 5 separate proposed sites, 2 of which are not even built), claiming that LA must stand united behind one owner, one stadium, etc.
Truth be told, however, the NFL is desparate to place a team in LA. This is the 2nd largest TV market...who knows how much $$ that represents once the NFL gets to renegotiate their TV contract?
But the NFL is not going to bend over backwards to put a team here, as it would undermine their image ("give us 50 million and we'll think about giving you an expansion team").

Personally, I'll take the Chargers. If the Raiders return I will buy season tickets so that I can show up and cheer AGAINST them. God, I hate Al Davis! Phoenix can keep its team...please!

The latest on an NFL franchise for Los Angeles.

At this point, its got to be an relocated team rather than an expansion team. According to the article, the Vikings, Colts and Chargers are the teams with uncertain stadium futures making them the leading potentials.

L.A. will never gets its act together to get a team no matter how much a team from another city would like to move or the NFL wants a team in L.A.. Everytime it comes up on the agenda, they push the coliseum and everyone runs screaming. They don't realize nobody wants to play there. Pasadena residents will never approve a pro football stadium in place of the rose bowl and the possibility of relocating the Dodgers downtown and taking over Chavez ravine is a long shot a best. Most fans here are transplants with loyalties to other cities/teams and prefer not to have football t.v. blackouts they experienced with two prior teams playing here that could not sell out a stadium.
