Does anyone know what the latest is? Will it be Joey or Mike McMahon starting in the opening game of Ford Field in Detroit vs. Green Bay?
Joe in Philly
I saw earlier on ESPN.com that Harrington will start.
George Twins fan
Harrington is getting the start, according to ESPN.
Charlie in the Trees
Someone please explain to me the Joey Harrington fetish that a lot of guys have on this Board. I don't get it.

He was picked WAY TOO HIGH in the draft. (Any draft pick by Matt Millen is, by definition, a bad draft choice.) I don't get him as a matinee idol in the looks department either. He was, however, a more deserving Heisman winner than the retired guy they gave it to.

What's up with this obsession?
RCKSoniK
I think he's really hot, like a built Freddie Prinze Jr. But the only reason I cared is because Gannon has a bye this week so I need to start one of my crappy reserves, McMahon, who I think is a talented QB who would be better on another team or Quincy Carter. Detroit may be making a huge mistake here, if Harrington has a bad game and gets rattled it could take a long time for him to regain his confidence. Or else this may be a brilliant move and Detroit will beat Green Bay.
Ballbusters
The fetish would be that he is a major hottie....I can only imagine him in his lucky elmo boxers.

Y'all better be talking nice about my boy Joey!
OK, I must be sick. I'm actually nervous about how he'll do on Sunday. Wow, what a way to get thrown into a first starting gig...against Green Bay! Mental note: Favre & Harrington on the same field. Woah. At least the game is at Ford Field and not at hostile Lambeau. Joey is an incredible person and I think one bad game will not rattle him. Personally, I would've liked the Lions to have waited a few more games before starting him, but I don't think they had a choice. I love Joey's confidence & demeanor. As far as his looks, I don't think he's the most handsome guy out there, but I still love watching the guy and he is good looking. Plus, he has a down to earth attitude, and he has that damn sexy voice!
George Twins fan
There is just something dorky-cute about him. Millen is doing this as a last ditch effort to save his job. I think Joey will be a fine NFL QB someday, but he's not ready to be pummeled playing for the Lions. The Kid better watch out when they play the Bears.
sportinlife
I like his piano playing. No genius but pretty good for an nfl QB; and the way he moves: a kinda graceful grove, just like his "aw shucks" way of talking. I haven't seen him in a game. It'll be interesting to see if his suave translates into good QB'ing.

Joey recording his first album?...nah, just a radio interview!

Well men...those of you NOT in Detroit or Green Bay may be screwed this weekend....FOX is sending Howey, Terry and JB to Ford Field for FOX NFL Sunday...even sending Collingsworth, Aikman and Buck....they originally slated this as their National game....HOWEVER, after Detroit's dismal start, the Redskins/49ers game has become the "national" 4PM game....so you Joey "admirers" may just have to catch him in the highlights.....fortunately, I'll be at the game to see him succeed (or falter)....just remember, Brett Favre always sucks when playing in the domes of Detroit and Ahman Green is NOT playing as of this posting...stranger things have happened in this town, men....

Thank god for Packer bars -- I can watch the GB D throw Joey's cute little butt to the turf live!
Theo
Thank God for the NFL Sunday ticket! Now if my remote would just keep up with me.

BTW, I think Joey is THE most gorgeous QB out there today.

Joey has that wholesome, boy-next-door image going for him. Not my type, though. I keep thinking David Schwimmer in a football uniform.

Hottest QB goes to David Carr, IMO.
copman
VERY handsome kid -- too young for Copman... I want to meet his DAD!

Joey's dad John Harrington is the principal of David Douglas High School in Portland. He also played quarterback at the University of Oregon from '67-'69.

Date, copman?
NFLJockGuy
Would definately like to see him succeed for the Lions' sake, but he's already exhibiting "jerk" behavior (that I believe is being provoked by his agent).....At the team hotel in Fort Lauderdale for the Miami opener, a little girl asked him for an autograph and he refused....and during the pre-season, Robert Bailey (who was working for the team's broadcasts, has two Super Bowl rings with the Cowboys and Ravins and two National Championships while at Miami) asked Joey for an autograph for a nephew and Joey responded with "you're not selling this on e-bay, are ya?"...Robert could barely keep from dissing him there on the spot....

EEEEEWWWWHHH -- yuck - thanks jordan -- I just lost my breakfast .. but better Schwimmer in a uniform than out of one!

If I was only single.... Just kiddin-

Well, despite his not so stellar numbers, Joey did almost manage to come within inches of leading the Lions to victory. Not too bad for a first game. I just wished that I could've seen the game..following on the internet was not as fun as watching it on TV.

Nice muscle

Awww...come & let me console you

Maybe Joey's just more internet savvy than your average jock.

If so maybe he checks out Outsports.

A suggestion Joey. Instead of rewarding just the kids in a class who achieve a certain grade level, why not reward a whole class if the average goes up by, say, 1 point.

Encourage a little team spirit.

Oh, and congrats on your performance in the GB game. A rookie playing the Pack that tight is doin' alright.

Edit: Sheesh ,Monday, I gotta wake up!

I agree Joey is deffinitely cute- but David Carr is more sexy. David is a hunk and I think he is better looking and probably has the better body. You have to admit his arms and abs are awesome.

YES!!! Joey guides the Lions to their first victory! I'm so prooud of my boy (sniff) (sniff). Next up for the Lions... a trip to Minne-SO-tah for a visit with Mr. Moss & the Vikings.

The Real Deal
peter
As a life long Lions fan (40 years of this missery) I try not to get too excited about one victory, but I must say one victory is a lot better than one more loss.

If Joey could develop into a consistent quarterback that has the ability to lead this team to the playoffs in a number of consecutive years he could become the biggest star in Detroit Lions history. Given his development and the players around him, that won't happen this year or probably next year. It is nice to have a little bit of hope though.

- now what do we do about the Tigers?
NFLJockGuy
Peter, Peter, Peter...

Joey has a way to go to surpass a man named "Barry"....how soon we forget the past....who will probably be remembered as one of the greatest Lions of ALL time....
Mariner Duck Guy
I just love the guy..I know I'm biased, but I think Joey is something sepcial. Now, if, and that's a big if, M&M can surround him with some talent, the Lions may go somewhere.

Thanks for posting that article DuckBoy....although I've never been a big fan of the Lions I gotta agree with you that Harrington appears to be something special....for a rookie with limited experience he comes across as a true leader without being arrogant or cocky....if Detroit can surround him with some talent, I think the Lions won't have to worry about their QB position for a LONG time to come.

I'm hoping to see Joey and the Lions keep the Vikes winless tomorrow -- can two athletes be any more opposite in their demeanor, attitude, and professionalism than Harrington and Randy Moss?....I'd say it's time for the rookie to show the "veteran" WR a thing or two about how to conduct yourself -- on AND off the field....watching and listening to guys like Joey remind us why we love sports in the first place (for all the RIGHT reasons).

Great article, Quacky. It lets me know that Joey is more than just a cute face and a good QB. Thanks for sharing!

OK, this Joey thread should move to the Hot Jock thread...because he is, after all, hot!

If Cosmopolitan had its way, Joey is H-O-T. In the November issue of Cosmo, Joey was selected as Oregon's hottest hunk. Alas, Joey is pictured with his shirt on (one of the few hunks that do keep their shirt on). Cosmo editors picked the hottest hunks from each state..although I'm sorry to tell you that I wasn't picked for Washington, and neither were GP43 or LotsOfUs...what up with that Oh yeah, I know why...we're not "straight".
footballfan30
Harrington is definitely showing some talent and some leadership with the lions (something that team needs BADLY). But the big question is: what will the Lions do about protecting him? The Lions have never put any emphasis on their offensive line, which is how and why they've had a string of broken down quarterbacks and running backs.

This may sound like a technicality but shouldn't Joey actually be considered for MICHIGAN'S hottest hunk?....I know his family still resides in Oregon but now that Harrington lives in the Detroit area (and the Lions aren't likely to trade him anytime soon -- but with Matt Millen as the GM you never know) wouldn't that eliminate Joey's "eligibility" to represent Oregon? ....just curious -- then again, if Hillary Clinton can be elected Senator from NY anything's possible I suppose (but that's another topic altogether for the P&R board).

DuckBoy, I can't imagine how you, gp, and LotsOfUs weren't considered for the hottest hunk in Washington?....were you all out of town when the "cosmo people" were reviewing the candidates?....this oversight deserves to be investigated (immediately after the feds catch the sniper roaming around DC, of course) ....perhaps the three of you should post some pics on the board so all the objective Outsporters can cast their votes (election day is only a few weeks away, after all) -- gp does have some excellent pics on his personal website, though, so my allegiance is swayed in his direction for now -- not that my vote can't be changed with the right "incentive" of course.

Yes, I've seen GP's photos. I can't compete with that hot bod of his so I guess I would have to sway you with other "incentives"! Oh, and I forgot...Cosmo didn't select Puckman either! But they probably eliminated him since he does, after all, live in Spokane

As for Joey. Good point! Maybe he should also be voted Michigan's sexiest stud. I could live with that.

Lions play the Mr. Urlacher & the Bears this week. Urlacher & Joey...hmmmm...now that's a visual.
Lots-of-us
Anyone else think he looks like Scott O'Grady, that pilot that was shot down years ago over Serbia?
