AFC- I’m asking myself, who can beat the Pats???? The answer is, the NFL schedule makers (see below). I really liked what Baltimore did this year. They set their team up to do what they did in the Super Bowl run… Win with Defense. They just may do it and come out of the AFC and take the ride to Detroit. The key in the NFL is to be solid on all sides of the ball (O, D and special teams). Baltimore, New England, Jets (with new kicker), and Jax are the most complete teams in the conference. KC can pose problems in the playoffs if they fix their Defensive woes. As usual, the colts fold when it counts.

East: New England opens the year after Oakland with these games: at car, at pitt, sd, at atl, at Denver, Indy. They could very well split those games and be .500 at mid season. That is going to be enough for the jets who have upgraded with the WR trade with Washington and they brought in a good TE. Should compliment Pennington and his short passing game. Then grind it out with the run. Buffalo had a nice run to end the season last year, but they are nothing more than 3rd best in this division.

1. New York Jets
2. New England Pats
3. Buffalo Bills
4. Miami Dolphins

North- Is there a more overrated QB in the league than in Pittsburgh (other than indy)? Awe, welcome to the sophomore jinx. This guy played with zero pressure last year. He had to do nothing to win… zero. Just not turn the ball over. Teams are going to take away the run and make him beat them. More than not, he wont. Baltimore improved their D (if that’s possible). Once their criminal gets back from suspension, they should literally run away with the division. I really wanted to pick Cincy to do well this year, but….. hasn’t everyone been saying that for the last few years? Just don’t see them going over 500.

1. Baltimore Ravens
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. Cincy Bengals
4. Cleveland Browns

South- Another feather in Stat mans hat. Too bad he’s never won a real game in his life. Indy will win this division, but are they the best team in the division? Jax is a more complete team than Indy and are more capable to win in the playoffs than the colts.

1. Indy Colts
2. Jax Jags
3. Houston Texans
4. Tenn Titans

West- I wanted to pick the Charges, really I did, then I looked at their schedule. That has to be the most brutal schedule in the NFL this year. They may as well build a training facility on the east coast. Denver decided to take all of the cast offs from Cleveland and jake is still a fake. Oakland has NO Defense. That leaves KC. We know they can score, but can they stop anyone? Better yet, can Gunther teach them how to tackle? I do not buy into the philosophy that you can rebuild an entire D via free agency and the draft in one year. Perhaps at the end of the year, they may begin to gel. KC’s biggest problem was tackling last year, they just plain could not do it. If they clear this up, they regain their playoff form.

1. KC Chiefs
2. Denver Broncos
3. San Diego Chargers
4. Oakland Raiders

NFC- WHERE OH WHERE IS CINDERELLA? Can Az really count as one when the rest of the division stinks? I think not. The NFC (not including injuries) is going to come down to two teams. Philly and Carolina. Minnesota reworks their D (again), I don’t buy it.

West- GOOD GOD, welcome to the NFC’s version of the crap division. Is there a good team in here? Anyone? Someone? Does anyone want to win the division? The Seattle WR’s can’t hold onto the ball. St Louis has the 2nd worst coach in the NFL. The niners should stick to making videos. Much like the AFC West, I’m left with one team (Arizona). The burning question in the desert is when will the fans show up once they see they will win this division? I’m hoping it is dec 24th when the birds pay them a visit.

1. Arizona Cards
2. Seattle Seahawks
3. St Louis Rams
4. San Francisco 49ers

South- Write this down, Mr Mexico and his bandwagon Falcon fans are FRAUDS. I realize the NFL loves Mr Mexico, but even giving them 16 home MNF games wont get them to where they were last year. I almost picked New Orleans as second, but they always seem to underachieve when it counts. Carolina will be playing in the NFC championship game. They are one of only two teams in the conference who are complete on all sides of the ball (we all know who the other one is).

1. Carolina Panthers
2. Atlanta Falcons
3. New Orleans Saints
4. Tampa Bay

North- I heard a little something on the radio.. koTice coaches in MN. The NFL really likes MN as they are keeping them inside the nice warm confides of domes for all but one game when the temps begin to dip. The only hope for MN is to run the table and get home field in the playoffs. Anyone can beat these guys outside. The question will be, when do you dump koTice? How many years does this team have to fall apart at the end of the year before they realize what the real problem is… the coach. I like Detriot’s chances this year because Jeff Garthiaassssssss isssssss going to come off the bechesssss and lead them to more winssssssssss than Joey ever could. MEMO to Favre: Retire your team stinks.

1. Minnesota Vikings
2. Detroit Lions
3. Green Bay Packers
4. Chicago Bears

East- There is no question who wins this division. Who comes in second? To me, the key in NY is going to be if shockey actually can play and not be injured all year. He can take some pressure off the cry baby they have at QB. How do the Pokes adjust to a 3-4 D? Can their RB take the beating of running for parcels? How much can their QB run for his life? Will Gibb’s flip to page 5 of his 1985 playbook?

1. Philadelphia Eagles
2. Dallas Cowboys
3. New York Giants

If the Baltimore criminal is Jamal Lewis, he already served his suspension last year.

And I don't get the Mr. Mexico reference.

Remember when Micheal Vick was hit with a lawsuit from a women claiming he gave her herpes. Well, he apparently had used the alias Ron Mexico for his STD testing among other things. After that the NFL banned the use of Ron Mexico on it's Jerseys as many fans tried to order it that way.

Oh, right. Forgot about that. Thanks.

AFC

I’ll follow PhillyFan’s order, besides, starting predictions with the defending champs is always a good kick-off. The dynasty will end this year. The Patriots won’t even make the playoffs. And with the Patriots out of the playoff picture, the Colts will have the opportunity to run the table and finally give Peyton the chance to collapse in the big game. The best threats in the AFC to stop the Colts from their Superbowl run are Baltimore and Kansas City. My dark horse (even though I don’t think they make the playoffs, is the Raiders). Who wouldn’t want to see an AFC Championship of long balls featuring Peyton and Moss?

East: This division has become the new Black & Blue division (the NFC North of the 90s). These teams will beat each other up and this division won’t be decided until the final 2 weeks of the season when the Jets host NE in week 16, followed by the Jets hosting the Bills in week 17. I don’t think Pennington’s shoulder will last all season. They will have to rely on their defense and Martin to carry them. The Patriots lost both coordinators and I think their edge will be gone this year. The Bills had a strong run last year, have a great running game in McGahee, and a strong defense. If Losman can step up and be the Ben Roethlisberger of this year and not turn the ball over, the Bills will end up atop this division.

1. Buffalo Bills
2. New York Jets
3. New England Pats
4. Miami Dolphins

North- Baltimore made a lot of good moves this offseason. I thtink Kyle Boller will have a good year and that will help Jamal Lewis become a top rusher again. The Steelers aren’t as good as a team as they were last year, and will need to rely on Roethlisberger more often to win games. He won’t be able to do that yet. I like the Bengals and hope to see them win the division next year. I like the three headed offense of Palmer, Johnson & Johnson. If they’re defense can play a little more consistent, the Bengals could surprise some teams and be a playoff spoiler.

1. Baltimore Ravens
2. Cincy Bengals
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Cleveland Browns

South- This division is the easiest pick in the NFL. The Titans will officially enter “rebuilding” stage mid-year. The Texans will be a bubble team. I like Jacksonville. I think Reggie Williams steps up this year and Byron Leftwich becomes the Drew Brees of this year. But none of them will be able to stop the Colts from winning the division. This could finally be the Colts year if the Patriots don’t make the playoffs.

1. Indy Colts
2. Jax Jags
3. Houston Texans
4. Tenn Titans

West- The Chargers have to have one of the worst schedules in the NFL this year. In the 6 games before their bye week (Oct-Nov), they have 4 away games, 3 on the East Coast against tough opponents, and their 2 home games feature KC and Pitt. A tough first half of the schedule means they will be playing catch-up to KC, who has a relatively easy schedule the first half of the season. I don’t like any of the moves Denver made this year. Couple that with a tough schedule and I think they will quickly be going for a high draft pick in 2006. I like what the Raiders did. They basically became the Colts Jr. Expect lots of big plays via air, and big runs by Jordan. Their LB corps sucks, so if they can turn games into shootouts, they can win some regular season games.

NFC

The NFL is finally taking pity on the Eagles and are trying their best to get them a guarantee ticket to the Superbowl, but to get it they will have to “scalp” Mike Tice and the Vikings revamped strategy. Carolina will show what they are capable of again, barring the injury bug that plagued them last year. The West division will do it’s best to finally submit a team to the playoffs with a losing record.

West- Not much to say here. Holmgren has his back against the wall. This division is his for the taking. But, without Alexander, he will have a hard time garnering the title. I hope Denny Green can do good things with the Cardinals this year. He had them close last year, but it takes about 3 years to turn a team around. If the QB combo of Warner/McCown can find the young trio of talented WRs, the Cardinals defense will do it’s part to make sure they have a chance in the end. I expect the Cardinals to be in a lot of nailbiters this year with most of their games decided by 6 points or less. The Rams are going downhill and I think Mike Martz will have a Tom Cruise episode about midway through the season where anything is possible.

1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Arizona Cards
3. St Louis Rams
4. San Francisco 49ers

South- Too much in this division relies on Mike Vick. I don’t think he can make it through two consecutive seasons without an injury. Carolina will return to the top of this division. I think DeShaun Foster runs rampant and becomes this year’s McGahee. The Saints will continue to piss people off in NFL “Pick’em” games. The Bucs will start to question why they thought Gruden was so great, well, not really, since none of their fans will be paying any attention to this season.

1. Carolina Panthers
2. Atlanta Falcons
3. New Orleans Saints
4. Tampa Bay

North- I like what the Vikings did this year, even though I will dearly miss Moss. When Moss was out last year, the Vikings played some solid football on all fronts. Their offense didn’t miss a beat, but their defense couldn’t get a stop when they really needed it at the end of the game. With the defensive moves the Vikings made, I think that problem is solved. If the team had O. Smith this year, I think they would compete for home field advantage. The Lions will be putting on a great show. Expect a lot of ESPN Highlights to come from their WRs. Whether this turns into wins or not remains to be seen. The Packers are finished and they know it. Favre hates getting hit and with his O-Line this year he will be planted plenty. The question is whether or not he takes it like a man and plays the whole season or if he decides he is finally injured enough to not start a game.

1. Minnesota Vikings
2. Detroit Lions
3. Green Bay Packers
4. Chicago Bears

East- If the Eagles head coach wasn’t Andy Reid, I think the Eagles would have a legitimate shot at an undefeated season this year. After opening at ATL on MNF, they host the 49ers and the Raiders. They basically own every team in their division so if they can get past KC in week 4, they could easily go 13-0, at which point Reid will sit his stars. I have a hard time deciding between the Cowboys and the Giants, but I will take Parcells and Bledsoe and their defense over baby Eli. The Redskins will challenge the 49ers and Browns for the first pick of 2006.

AFC East
New England
Buffalo
New York Jets
Miami

New England has a tough schedule and plays an Indy team this year with serious revenge, so it will be no walk in the park, but the Pats have a strong home field, and always has the ability to find a way to win. Buffalo is somewhat of a question mark, and off a so-so year last year, and lining up behind a new QB in JP Losman, I think they are a year away from breaking out and competing for the division title, despite a great defense and a favorable schedule. Led by Herm Edwards the Jets will always compete at a high level. They lost a ton in free agency but have improved special teams and drafted a sorely needed new place kicker. They went 10-6 last year, but lack of depth will hurt them as they struggle to earn a wild card spot at best. Will Miami win two games? They lost a ton in free agency and have a new staff in place, and new schemes to learn with limited depth. They have no real leader on offense, especially with a featured rookie running back and too much focus on the Rickey Williams saga.

AFC North
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Cleveland

I’m betting on Cincy with their high powered offense with 3 impact stars, a terrific coach, a system that the players believe in, and above average special teamers. With Chuck Bresnahan now calling the defense, and this could be a dangerous team that other teams overlook as people continue to over-hype the likes of Ray Lewis and Ben Rothlisberger in this division. Pittsburgh is a middle of the pack team at best. They have the public perception of a great team, but are an average team who overachieved last year. There’s no way Rothlisberger duplicates last season’s numbers. Baltimore brought in Rex Ryan (Buddy Ryan's son) to run the defense, so look for a slip here from Mike Nolan. Teams learned last year that Ray Lewis is neutralized by going right at him. Free agency was kind to the Raven offense, and Brian Billick has banked his job on QB Boller, and both are on the chopping block if they fail. They will. The Browns will have a horrible year. They lost a ton in free agency, and picked up some players that have seen better days or were thrown away by other teams. Last place. Guaranteed.

AFC South
Indianapolis
Jacksonville
Houston
Tennessee

Tony Dungy had to do something with his horrible defense - ranked 28th overall in the NFL last season and allowed a huge 237 yards per game thru the air which ranked them 26th in pass defense. The Colts drafted five defensive players within his first six selections and three of those picks were used on defensive backs. But where were any free agent signings? Was Peyton not willing to share any of his money to improve the team?? Manning continues to be the poster boy of the NFL based on personal stats and a well-orchestrated public image, but the last time I checked, football is a team game and Manning is happy with the status quo as long as he continues to get the spotlight. Jacksonville is the opposite of Indianapolis not allowing a lot of points but then they didn’t score a lot of points either. The Jags have now failed to score 30 points or more in their past 50 straight contests, with QB Byron “Fat Albert” Leftwich back with a year of experience. I would look for the Jags to score more points this season. But remember Coach Jack Del Rio is and always will be a defense first coach that likes to play conservative on offense. Houston has improved their seasonal win/loss total each of the past three years and it would not surprise me to see this Texan team win 8 or 9 games in 2005 and possibly take the second spot in the divisional. Unfortunately they are in the same division as the Colts and Jags, and despite some key improvements in the off-season, they’re a fringe Wild Card team. The Titans is that they had a pretty good draft (with the exception of Pac Man Jones’ off field problems) which should give them a solid base for the future. Unfortunately, they are still in salary cap hell for this upcoming season which is the reason why they didn’t add to the team via free agency.

AFC West
Kansas City
San Diego
Oakland
Denver

My Chiefs will battle San Diego for the top spot all season long. There’s a huge sense of urgency in Kansas City this season due to the fact that Dick Vermeil and most of his coaching staff are in the final year of their contracts and players like Green, Holmes, Gonzalez, Shields and Roaf on offense are at the back end of their careers.
Obviously the focus needed to be on defense and it was - Former Steeler LB Kendrell Bell, and Dolphin defensive backs CB Patrick Surtain and SS Sammy Knight, along with Carlos Hall and No. 1 draft choice Derrick Johnson will turn this defense into ball-hawking playmakers. Other than a few draft choices that may or may not contribute, the Chargers stood still in the off-season. The Chargers have by far the most brutal schedule the league handed out this season. They have five trips to the Eastern Time zone, and games at New England, at Philadelphia, at the New York Jets and at Indianapolis. The only opponents they get at home who made the playoffs last year are Denver and Pittsburgh. How about the late season road doubleheader where they play Indianapolis and the Chiefs in a six-day span? After finishing among the three worst teams in stopping people last year, Al Davis has done little to improve his dreadful unit. In fact, the Raiders got rid of one of their better linebackers, sending Napoleon Harris to Minnesota in the deal for Randy Moss and Philip Buchanon in a trade to Houston. Moss and Jerry Porter give the Raiders possibly the most explosive wide receiving pair in the league, but as my Chiefs have learned the past two season, you have to be good on both sides of the ball and the Raiders are not. The “Browncos” seemed to spend most of their off-season making deals with the Cleveland Browns for players. No offense to the Browns, but there was a reason Cleveland finished last season with a 4-12 record: a lack of talent. Mike Shanahan, who hasn’t won a game in the post-season since John Elway’s retirement has one major problem: Elway’s still retired. Shanahan and the Browncos future depends on how well Jake Plummer plays. Jake is still “a fake.”

Division Winners: New England, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Kansas City
Wild Cards: Buffalo, San Diego

NFC East

Philadelphia
New York Giants
Dallas
Washington

Let’s face it, this should be a cake walk for the Eagles in by far the weakest division in the NFL. They do a great job of cap management year in and year out tweaking their roster, and without the distraction of Owens playing every week, they’ll do just fine because the offense is very, very balanced. The Giants don’t play the Eagles until late in the season and that bodes well for the health of Eli Manning (who finally has a number one receiver in Plaxico Burress). Tiki Barber is coming off a career season of 1,518 rushing yards and 15 TDs. The Cowboys only significant move was bringing in Drew Bledsoe for Vinny Testaverde at quarterback. Unfortunately, his lack of mobility and decreasing accuracy make him a bottom-tier starting quarterback. The NFL pregame shows will still talk about the Cowboys endlessly, but it will just be wasted breath. The Redskins scored only 240 points last year and ranked 31st in the league under the master, Joe Gibbs. So the genius brought in two 5 ft.10 in. wide out free agents in Santana Moss and David Patten. Brilliant! Honey, this ain’t Talladega.

NFC North

Minnesota
Detroit
Green Bay
Chicago

The Vikings are the class of NFC North as the departure of WR Randy Moss who was nothing but a distraction, along with the best draft of any team in the division and a good free agent crop makes Vikings into a serious contender for the overall NFC crown fighting Philly. The only thing that can derail them is MeatHead (Mike Tice). For QB Joey Harrington it’s “make it or break it” time with the Lions loaded offensive arsenal. If they can stay healthy they will compete. In Green Bay, Favre will turn 36 yrs old on October 10 and his offensive line is significantly weaker with the key losses of starting offensive guards Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle. Plus, it’s hard to bootleg with John Madden’s lips buried between your buttcheeks. Just retire already, so Peyton Manning gets even more of the attention he wants. This team is way on the downside and needs to focus on rebuilding. The Bears will go as far as their weak offensive line takes them, and that will be cellar in the NFC Norris. The Bears used their top draft choice on RB Cedric Benson, but he will take little pressure off the woeful QB position.

NFC South

Carolina
Atlanta
New Orleans
Tampa Bay

Jake Delhomme was terrific last year. When the Panthers' running backs went down during a 1-7 start, he stepped up. He threw 22 TD passes vs. only five interceptions in the final 10 games last season with healthy RBs Stephen Davis, Steve Smith and DeShaun Foster, they’ll be tough to beat. In Atlanta, Michael Vick still is a below average passer and has no receiving weapons outside Peerless Price. The Falcons open with a tough five-game stretch vs. Philadelphia, at Seattle and Buffalo and vs. Minnesota and New England and after that stretch the bandwagon will either be filled by the worst sports fans in America or it will have four flat tires. The Saints did little to improve themselves in the off-season and can Deuce McAllister bounce back from an injury-plagued year? Too many mistakes in the QB position will probably necessitate a change there. According to the Pewter Report, the Buccaneers need to clear more than $4.4 million in cap room in order to sign their new crop of future cap casualties. Nice work there, Chucky. Questions at QB - What are the Bucs' quarterback plans? Has Brian Griese's career really been revitalized? And Chris Simms came up in offseason trade talks, indicating the team might be down on him. This team will battle New Orleans for last place in a division dominated by two teams.

NFC West

Arizona
Seattle
St Louis
San Francisco

I’m buying into the Cardinal hype mainly because the division is weak. Additions of Kurt Warner, J.J. Arrington, a healthy Anquan Boldin and second year player Larry Fitzgerald make the offensive greatly improved. Can anyone in Seattle catch the damn ball? Bobby Engram and free agent pickup Joe Jurevicius are improvements over the inconsistent and problem prone Koren Robinson. But what if the Shaun Alexander issue isn’t resolved? If not, drop them to third behind the Rams. With the third worst coach in the league behind Yahweh Gibbs, MeatHead Tice, the Rams under Mike sMartz will implode, despite budding superstar Steven Jackson, with an old, old offensive squad. Keep pumping fake noise into that dome St Louis, so we know you’re still in the league. The 49ers are so bad that the schedule does not matter, because they will be worse than almost everybody they play. Enjoy the lovely Bay area eateries instead of watching this dreadful team.

OOOH! I wanna play too, but not as wordy:

AFC

1. New England Pats
2. New York Jets
3. Buffalo Bills
4. Miami Dolphins

East: The Pats are too deep, and Bellicheck can just beat other teams. The Jets and Bills are cursed, and I think I might be playing QB in Miami soon.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers
2. Cincy Bengals
3. Baltimore Ravens
4. Cleveland Browns

North: The Steelers were that good with a Rookie QB. They will just protect him again, now that coaches have seen his bag of tricks. And the Ravens on top? Not with Kyle Boller at the wheel. Bengals need ONE MORE YEAR.

1. Indy Colts
2. Jax Jags
3. Houston Texans
4. Tenn Titans

South - Yeah, this is pretty easy to call.

1. Denver Broncos
2. San Diego Chargers
3. KC Chiefs
4. Oakland Raiders

West: I just can't bet against the Broncos. Granted Jake Plummer can KILL YOU, you can't deny that they have the RBs to pull off a miracle. AND they have Jerry Rice coaching the WRs (lets just call a spade a spade, ok?) and this may help Lelie finally stop being a "hot/cold" player. The Chargers will be OK, but can't pull off the same feat as last year. The Chiefs are just learning what it means to have a defense and Priest Holmes may not make it past week 10. Oakland will self-destruct.

NFC

1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Arizona Cards
3. St Louis Rams
4. San Francisco 49ers

West- Seattle will go to the playoffs and lose. It's just the way it is. It was hard to choose between the Cards and the Rams. That's kinda a toss up. We should form a team and play against the 49'ers. We would be competative.

1. Carolina Panthers
2. Atlanta Falcons
3. New Orleans Saints
4. Tampa Bay

South- Jake Delhomme is the real deal. And he will bring them back to the playoffs. Ron Mexico will get hurt. I feel it, in my bones, I just feel it. Tampa Bay is lost for another year. The Saints, well . . . They are the Saints. They are going to ease off of Brooks, but I don't know if McAllister can pick up the slack.

1. Green Bay Packers
2. Detroit Lions
3. Minnesota Vikings
4. Chicago Bears

North- Brett Favre has a leprachaun stuffed up his ass. He is a lucky lucky fellow. This leprachaun will take them far. The Vikings, on the other hand, are cursed. Cursed like the Ancient Mariner, with his albatross. And the Albatross wasn't Moss. While I love Joey Harrington, I worry about him. In fact, I always say that the Detroit Offense is like watching Mr. Magoo drive a lamborghini. Super fast machine with a blind and flustered man behind the wheel. And the Bears, well, how far do you really think you can get with Rex "I like to get hurt" Grossman.

1. Philadelphia Eagles
2. Dallas Cowboys
3. New York Giants
4. Washington Redskins

East- Well, this was easy to pick the winner, but again the #2 spot is up for grabs. As for the Redskins, well, GOOD LUCK to them.

AFC Champs - Colts (they finally make it to the Super Bowl. At the end of the game, Peyton Manning turns into a pile of dust because the Devil comes to collect.)

NFC Champs - Eagles

Super Bowl Champs - Eagles (and then Donovan McNabb turns into a pile of dust because the Devil comes to collect.)

Alright ML!! Maybe you can spook out some other Outsporters into posting their predictions.

But my Vikings in 3rd?!!

I may have to put a hit out on Joey H. to teach you a lesson. Something like a Williams/Williams sandwich.

Come on, they are the Vikings. The same team that DIDN'T go to the playoffs because of a last minute play by the CARDINALS. The same team that can defeat itself, no need for the other team to even show up.

I actually think that their bad luck is tied to Mike Tice. He is the Albatross.

Buffalo will finish no lower than second....mark it down, and will make the postseason for the first time since an questionable lateral pass was thrown in Tennessee.

They've gotten rid of their over the hill statue of a quarterback. Will have McGahee starting for a full season.(Notice they were 1-4 with Henry as the starter. And for me, as long as Losman doesn't lose games like Bledsoe did....they will be more than fine.

Plus they finished '04 on a tear winning 6 in a row before Bledsoe handed a game to the Steelers in Week 17.

I have a friend who didn't talk to people for three days after that forward lateral was thrown. We acutally kept a watch on him, because we didn't think he was going to fully recover mentally. It was almost as scary as when they lost the Super Bowl for the fourth time.

I understand his pain....I was AT THE GAME when that happened. It was the longest three block walk back to a hotel that I ever had in my life.

Somehow I actually pulled myself together enough to go back into downtown and catch the Preds that night....least I think I did, I really don't have much memory of it as I was walking around in a such a stunned haze.

Superbowl you ask? Pittsburgh beats Minnesota 27-17.

Just so ya know, you can't blame the Bucs sucky season on your prediction that they finish 2nd in the NFC South. It has nothing to do with karma. They will finish last cuz they suck!!
PhillyFan
When the vikes lose sting, we can just blame your shitty coach.

Why the "Buc hatin"?!??? Reminds me of when everyone hated the Cowboys or Steelers because they secretly feared them and hated that the majority of their fans seemed to have jumped on the bandwagon! (SHHHHEEEEEE) Dont tell PF, but his picks remind me of how well he predicted the NCAA tourney the year before last.

I certainly hope the anger isn't eating you up that much. Well, in PF's case, yeah, I kind of hope it is...

I'll leave this silly little game to you gurls. I need to go dust my Buccaneer Bobbleheads

Completely nonsensical statement. Why? Three reasons: I'm not sure people hated the Steelers all that much. Everyone still hates the Cowboys. And no one gives the Bucs a second thought.

Kenny, after reading that you place Chicaco #2 and you put Minny in the Superbowl, I must ask, with love and respect: The little invisible crazy bug people who hover around you, are they nice? What do they look like? wink

AFC East
Patriots
Jets
Bills
Dolphins

I realize the Pats have lost alot of key people, but they've managed to refill holes in their lineup in the past. Bruschi was the heart and soul of that D, but I'm going to give the Pats the benefit of the doubt. The Jets will be competition for the Pats but they've got too many questions. The Bills could sneak up if Losman is the real deal but he's unproven. The Dolphins just stink.

AFC North
Bengals
Ravens
Steelers
Browns

This one is a toss up. Any of the top 3 could win this division. I just think the Bengals and Ravens tinkered enough to bypass the Steelers. If Marvin Lewis can get the D up near his usual standards and Palmer picks up where he left off last year, they'll take it. Bottom line is the top 3 wll beathe snot out of each other giving the division winner little hope of a bye for the first round of the playoffs and a wild card unlikely.

AFC South
Colts
Jaguars
Texans
Titans

The weakest AFC division, IMO. Colts will run away with it and should result in them getting the #1 seed for the playoffs. I really thought the Texans were going to make a move last year but they didn't. The Jags D is too tough for them to finish lower than 2nd. the Titans are too old, too slow and are focusing on rebuilding.

AFC West
Chargers
Chiefs
Broncos
Raiders

The Chargers could suffer a letdown after last year's playoff meltdown but I don't think the Chiefs made enough improvements on D to win the division. Broncos will be tough but the top 2 are just plain better. The Raiders will score alot of points and reward fantasy owners but the lack of a D and LaMont Jordan as the lead back are big questions.

NFC East
Eagles
Cowboys
Giants
Redskins

The Eagles will run away and hide from the rest of the division yet again. The TO stuff could be a slight distraction but not enough to make them less than a 2 seed. The Cowboys Julius Jones could be a real star if he continues the way he finished last year. The Manning to Burress combo will have to really click for the Giants to contned fora wild card. The Redskins are the Dolphins of the NFC.

NFC North
Vikings
Lions
Packers
Bears

Losing Moss won't hurt as much as some think, especially if #1 pick Williamson catches on fast. If Bennett stays healthy the offense won't miss a beat. Big questions are Tice's decision making and the revamped D. If the D is as good on the field as it is on paper, the Vikes could contend for the #1 seed. The Lions should be fun to watch and will contend for a wild card. The Packers are aging and there seems to be some lockerroom bickering. If they get off to a slow start like last year they won't b able to rebound like they did. The Bearsare improved but still smell of last place.

NFC South
Panthers
Falcons
Saints
Buccaneers

Should be the most tightly contested division in the NFC. If the Panthers can avoid the injury plague of last year, I see them coming out on top. The Falcons still lack an A list receiver to compliment their aging running game. The Saints could be better but Aaron Brooks looks like a chronic underachiever. The Bucs are the doormat here.

NFC West
Cardinals
Seahawks
Rams
49ers

Really who cares? The Cards have made some nice offseason moves and have some great parts. But depending on Warner for a whole season will be problematic. The Seahawks just seem too unmotivated and lazy. The Rams still have Bruce and Holt but Marshall Faulk has gotten old and injury prone. Niners have terrible ownership on top of a really awful team and that will hold them back for years.

Playoff teams: (*-wild card)
AFC

4-Bengals

NFC

3-Panthers
4-Cardinals
5-Falcons*

Boltergeist
AFC East

Pats
Jets
Bills
Fins

Somehow, someway, the Pats will still find a way to take the East. As for the Bruschi loss, I think Vrabel and Harrison will step into his leadership role. I know Chad Pennington is happy to see Lavernaues Coles back in Jet green. If they get that 2002 clicking going on, it should give them a slight edge over the Bills, who could have their new Kelly-Thomas-Reed combo in Losman-McGahee-Evans, the Dolphins still might be bad, but they'll have one late spoiler game

AFC North
Ravens
Bengals
Steelers
Browns

A 3-way race, but I'll give Baltimore the edge. Hopefully Boller will learn how to pass some more, so it's not like Dilfer in 2000. Cincy scored a major coup this year by getting their main FA's to stay. Palmer, Rudi, the better apple of the Johnson tree, and Housh with another year in the system will become dangerous, and if you don't believe it, ask the Patriots. Pittsburgh's season seemed to be one of them "stars aligning" things last year. Losing Burress will hurt them a little more than most people think. Cleveland's gonna be like Miami, but Crennel will ruin someones bye dreams, division title or playoff hopes.

AFC South
Colts
Jags
Texans
Titans

The Colts-Jags gap could close if Ty Law picks Jacksonville and Matt Jones plays like a freak. Will Peyton make a run at Marino's other record this year? For Jacksonville to win, I think they'll need to all play just a bit over thier heads. Hopefully all those last second wins last year will translate this year. Houston needs a year like Jacksonville had last year to keep their climb. And the big question for the Titans is will the Volek era start this year

AFC West
Chargers
Cheaps
Browncows
Raiders

How often does a team in this day and age return ALL 22 starters from the previous season. The Bolts are here to stay. I know a big deal is being made out of their sched this year. But EACH West Team plays each other twice, both East divisions .... and here are their other games

SD - Pit, Ind
Den - Bal, Jax
KC - Cin, Hou
Oak - Cle, Ten

given the relative depth of the AFC, the 2nd and 3rd place sched is no cakewalk, plus that WC game left that sour taste in their mouths to know they can do better.

KC's getting a better D, but I wonder about their O, especially the pass game. I still think it'll be good enough to be playoff contenders. Are the Broncos trying to move to Columbus or something, getting all those Brown DL's and drafting Clarett. As for the Raiders, do you have the feeling they'll be losing a lot of 45-31 games?

NFC East
Eagles
Cowboys
Skins
Va-Giants

How bad is this division, 14 of the 16 AFC teams could win a sans-Philly East.

NFC North
Vikings
Lions
Packers
Bears

Even with all the changes, Minnesota will be a mystery wrapped in an enigma. One moment they'll look like their Detroit bound, and the next they'll look like the only way they're getting to Detroit is if they have a road game against the Lions. Speaking of the Lions, Joey Harrington better get it together this year, cause he's got the weapons to do good with. If not, dare I say Philip Rivers is your new QB. With the Walker/Jackson holdouts and the way the last 2 seasons ended, you wonder if the clock is striking midnight for Cinderella Favre. And the Bears, they're the Bears. Muhsin Muhammad is the first real reciver they've had there since like 1992, so Rex Grossman provided he makes it through should find throwing easier.

NFC South
Panthers
Saints
Falcons
Bucs

And not the NFC bright spot. It says a lot about the Panthers that the Eagles were hoping you didn't make the playoffs last year, even with Smith, Foster, and Davis out. Smith's absence was good for Keary Colbert who got parctice on that starting thing for this year. Look up schizophrenia in the dictionary and the Saints logo would be there. But since this is the NFC the Saints can parlay a playoff bid out of this. I think Atlanta was the Pittsburgh of the NFC. As a Charger fan, the silver lining from the whole Ryan Leaf fiasco was that we were gun shy on Vick when we got into that situation again. Vick for LT and Caldwell (who was probably going to get 1,000 last season before the injury) is looking better and better. If Tampa were in any other NFC division, they'd be a Wild Card contender, I think they're a team in flux. If they can get some lucky bounces their way like Carolina 2 years ago, they could shock.

NFC West
Cards
Seahawks
Shams
49ers

Let's see, Denny Green, stable of solid pass catchers, "washed up" QB. Haven't we been here before? It's a good thing the Cards are here otherwise this would be another who wants to lose this division least race between Seattle and St. Louis, both teams are a sum of the parts is greater than the whole teams. And then there's the 49ers ... about the only thing positive you can say about them is that they don't have the TO sideshow anymore.

AFC playoff field - NE, Jets, Bal, Cin, Ind, SD

AFC Champs - San Diego. Someone's gotta beat the Patriots this year. But I don't think it's gonna be one of the recent playoff perennials. To beat New England I think you need to have no fear. By all the playoff beatings New England's administered they've instilled fear in most of the AFC. So I think either San Diego or Cincy will be the team to knock New England out. The Chargers know New England's not big and bad. The last time they played in 2002, Tomlinson ran for over 200 yards as the Chargers handed New England their first loss of that season 21-14. Of course if there is fear in Schotties offensive play calling notsomuch.

NFC field - Phi, Min, Car, Atl, NO, Ariz

NFC Champ - Carolina. The law of averages has to catch up with Philly sometime and they have to lose a divisional round game. So who better to make a case for the law of averages that the schizophrenic Saints.

The Extra Large Super Bowl Winner - San Diego. Wouldn't it be fitting for the budding dynasty to be nipped by the guy with a 5-12 playoff record. Everyone's back and the draft just fortified them. Remember they were winning with Chatman getting a good share of the load when LT was fighting off that injury and with Eric Parker and Kassim Osgood as starting receivers late in the season. And none of our 2004 starting OL played a down for the Chargers in 2003. All in all, a green team got experience and won, I think it's gonna pay dividends this year.

And besides all you Manning family haters should root for the Bolts. The team Archie tells not to draft his son cause they're not committed to winning a championship goes and does it.

Don't they have 5 trips to the east coast this year? NE, Jets, Philly... they could very well lose those games.

Can Breese repeat his ONLY good year he's had in the NFL?

BallHatGuy
AFC East
Patriots
Jets
Bills
Dolphins

I'm going with the Pats to repeat although I think the surging Bills and a respectable Jets team could make it interesting race. Schedule and the loss of key coaches and Bruschi could hurt the Pats but they always find ways to win . . .

AFC North
Bengals
Steelers
Baltimore
Browns

As a Bengal's season ticket holder, I'm going with them - naturally. It will be a tough division but the schedule is favorable and with their entire offense back and an improved defense we will be in the playoffs.

AFC South
Colts
Jaguars
Texans
Titans

I agree with Bruce Wayne and the Colts will take the AFC's weakest division. Jags and Texans will battle for the second spot.

AFC West
Chargers
Chiefs
Broncos
Raiders

Not really up on the AFC west too much but I don't think any team has done enough to overtake the Chargers. Some are up on the Raiders this year but I don't see it. Injuries could open the door here . . but I guess that is true for any division.

NFC East
Eagles
Cowboys
Giants
Redskins

Phily is still better than the rest . . . Not sure Dallas improved enough at quarterback to move past a improving Giants team but something tells me Dallas may be a wildcard team.

NFC North
Vikings
Lions
Bears
Packers

I really think this division will be tight, similar to last year in some ways. I think the Packers slip to fourth . . .

NFC South
Falcons
Panthers
Buccaneers
Saints

I think it's Atlanta and Carolina and everyone else. And personally, I wouldn't be upset if Carolina finishes first but I don't see enough improvement to overtake the Falcons.

NFC West
Cardinals
Seahawks
Rams
49ers

I guess Arizona but with an East Coast bias, I again agree with Bruce Wayne that I am not sure I care.

Lexington
>>>Lexington - What catastrophic event takes place in the St. Louis Rams organization that they finish BELOW the 49'ers?

Just what I call the AGS (any given Sunday) factor. Baseball plays 162 games, and so it takes a huge streak of luck (good or bad) to make a difference. In a general way, the final standings almost always reflect how good the teams were.

In football, with only 16 games a year, it's a lot more up in the air. Teams win (and lose) on a fluke play. Happens in baseball, too, of course. But if it happens to a team twice in baseball, that's about 1% of their games. If it happens to a team twice in football, that's 12.5%.

Seems like every year, at least one team ends up with a much better (or worse) record than one would think. Not sure if I'm predicting St Louis to stumble to a lot of losses, or San Francisco will stumble to a lot of wins. Either way. And if I end up being wrong, well, you can be the first to tell your friends how wrong I was. biggrin.gif

George Twins fan
Yeah Sting go with the Diet Coke. We've got an Outsports Parking Lot Football title to defend!

Anyway, predictions:

AFC East
Patriots
Jets
Bills
Dolphins

The Pats probably won't go 14-2 again but I don't see them slipping enough for the Jets to catch them. And Pennington needs to prove his shoulder is fully healthy. The Bills could contend for second place if they overachieve a bit and the Jets underachieve (something they've done most of my life!).

AFC North
Bengals
Steelers
Ravens
Browns

I think Carson Palmer showed at the end of last season that he can be a fine QB. He has two terrific weapons in Johnson & Johnson (Rudi and Chad) and resigning TJ Houshmandzadah, one of the best #2 receivers and potentially worth 743 points in Scrabble). The Steelers and Ravens could win this division but Roethlisberger has to take a step back a bit and the Ravens are still stuck with Boller as their QB. Not enough offensive weapons.

AFC South
Colts
Jaguars
Texans
Titans

Colts will win easily and should get enough wins in this weak division the be the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs. The Jags D is tough enough to allow them to contend for a Wild Card. And the Texans still have some work to do.

AFC West
Chargers
Chiefs
Broncos
Raiders

I think the Chargers were not a fluke last year though all those trips east could take a toll and allow the Chiefs to steal the division. The Broncos have been slipping for a couple of seasons and didn't do enough to contend this year. And while Moss will help the Raiders, the D is probably worse than last eyar.

NFC East
Eagles
Giants
Cowboys
Redskins

The weakest division shloud give the Eagles 6 wins and the #1 seed in the NFC. It'll be interesting to see if Burress can help mature Eli. If he does, the Giants are 2nd, but not enough for a wild card spot. Of the Cowboys 10 losses last year, 7 were by 14+ points so they've got a way to go.

NFC North
Vikings
Lions
Packers
Bears

On paper the Vikes should win this division. They've upgraded their D enough to balance the loss of Moss. The keys are the health of RB Michael Bennett, one of the leagues most explosive backs, and the effectiveness of rookie WR Troy Williamson. The Lions made alot of improvements as well and should finally see a payoff. And this should (hopefully) be the year the Packers age finally catches up with them.

NFC South
Panthers
Falcons
Saints
Buccaneers

The Falcons could steal this away, but I just don't think Vick has enough weapons to help him. Remember the Panthers had so many injuries last year and were still probably the best team the second half of the year. Don't see the Saints rallyin enough to save Jim Haslett's job.

NFC West
Cardinals
Seahawks
Rams
49ers

Cards almost snuck into the playoffs last year and made enough moves in the offseason to just edge the Seahawks. Obviously Warner will have to be a bit more effective than he's been the last couple of years, but given his weapons on offense I think he can do it. The Seahawks D is still full of too many holes.

AFC
1. Colts
2. Patriots
3. Bengals
4. Chargers
5. Jets
6. Jaguars

NFC
1. Eagles
2. Vikings
3. Panthers
4. Cardinals
5. Falcons
6. Seahawks

In the pre-season you can usually get a good feel for tackling and catching the ball...

With that, the Seahawks will STINK this year.

I'd also encourage Parcells to run that back 30 times a game.... that will last till week 8 when the A-train comes in for his 2 yards per carry.

That big bonus to the Baseball Drew looks like money well spent, if you're Danny Boy.
