On Aug 1, the White Sox held a 15 game lead in the AL Central, with today's loss to KC, that lead has been trimmed down to 4.5 games.
The Tribe and Sox still have 6 games against each other. Cleveland's other games are vs. KC (7) and Tampa Bay (3). The Sox still have 7 against Minnesota and 4 against Detroit.
So who will win the AL Central?

I think Cleveland will need to win 4 of the 6 head to head games in order to take the AL Central, in the other 10 games I could see them making up the other 3. If Cleveland goes 5-1 or 6-0 head-to-head, the Sox may not be making any playoff plans at all.

Sox will hold on.....Tribe has to have a losing stretch at some point.
Cleveland should keep its focus on keeping the wild card.

I've taken a lot of crap for supporting my Sox on another thread...but I still think they will pull through and win the division. Now doing anything in the playoffs is another story.

They should focus on winning as much as possible and let the other chips fall where they may, so that one way or another they'll be in the postseason.

And oddly enough, from a Sox fan. wink

A realistic, depressed Sox fan, JIP.

The way the Indians are playing right now, I can see them rolling through the entire AL and knocking off the NL in the World Series. Easily.

Cleveland takes game 1 in Chicago .... 7-5
The AL Central lead is now down to 2.5 for the Sox. Cleveland has also passed Boston for the 2nd best record in the AL.

Cleveland will win the division. The White Sox won't win anything, not even the wild card, and they shall join their Black Sox counterparts in ignominy.

btw, the '51 Dodgers had 'only' a 13-1/2-game lead. NO ONE has ever blown a 15-game lead.

Hang-in there, MIB, Cleveland is not exactly devoid of its own losing history....

I don't think so. They've fared much better than us over the last several years.
Such a great sports city, cursed with such horribly run professional teams--in every sport. How sad. frown
